    ABSTRACT. A survey conducted to study a relationship between a dam body weight and a calf birth weight of cattle. There were six dams of Brahman Cross (B.C), six females calves of B.C dam, eleven local cattle dams and her eleven females calves, and another seven dams of local cattle and her seven male calves. The mean birth weight were local cattle and her seven male calves. The mean birth weight were 20.67 13.47 Kg for the female calf of B.C dam, and 19.27 4.41 Kg for thr female calf of local cattle dam, and 18 2.33 Kg for the male calf of local cattle dam. The mating method used was an artificial insemination and Brahman Cross frozen semen. The birth weight between the two groups of these female calves were not significantly different, and berween the two groubs of these female calves and the male calves were not significantly different. The body weights of B.C dams were not significantly correlated with their female calves ( r= + 0.7166, P0.05), and the local dam body weights were not significantly correlated with their female calves (r=+0.7450, P0.05), and with their male calves (r=+ 0.1948, P0.05). The equation of the regression lines were Y = 5.38 + 0.07 X for female calves and Y = 16.21 + 0.01 X for male calves. X dam body wight, and Y = calf birth weight

    ABSTRACT. A study on performance of crossed local cock with Kedu hen on production phase given diet with different level of protein have been conducted at experimental farm of Syiah Kuala University. The objective of the research was to study the production performance of local chiken and crossed local cock with Kedu given different level of protein. There were 24 local chiken and 24 crossed local cock and Kedu hen used in trial. The study was designed in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with factorial pattern 2 x 3 and 4 replications. There were 2 chicks in each replications. First factor was breed of chicken (A); there were local breed of chiken (A1) and crossed breed of chicken (A2). The second factors were the level of protein in the diet e.g. 16% (R1), 18%(R2), and 20%(R3). Parameters studied were feed consumption, hen day production egg weight, feed conversion and egg indext. The data were analyzed by and analysis of variance and as a significant effect was detected, the analysis was breed and crossed breed. However, there were no significant effect on feed consumption, hen day production, egg weight, feed conversion and egg index. Generally, performance of local breed hen which was feed on 20% protein on the diet

    ABSTRAK. Susu fermentasi merupakan susu hasil pengasaman melalui aktivitas bakteri asam laktat yang menyebabkan perubahan kimia, sensorik dan mikrobiologi dalam produk susu fermentasi. Lactobacillus casei merupakan bakteri yang mampu menghasilkan senyawa organik dan hydrogen peroksida yang bersifat antibakteri. Senyawa antibakteri ini adalah senyawa kimiawi atau biologis yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan dan aktivitas bakteri patogen yang dapat merusak kualitas susu fermentasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suhu dan lama penyimpanan terhadap kualitas susu fermentasi dengan Lactobacillus casei. Suhu dan lama penyimpanan pada susu fermentasi Lactobacillus casei pengaruh sangat nyata (P0,01) dan dapat menekan pertumbuhan terhadap bakteri E.coli dan Staphylococcus aureus. Aktivitas antimikroba susu fermentasi Lactobacillus casei pada suhu penyimpanan 5C dengan lama penyimpanan 30 hari dapat menekan pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.(Effects of temperature and storage time on the antimicrobial activity fermented milk with Lactobacillus casei)ABSTRACT. Fermented milk is milk acidification results through the activity of lactic acid bacteria that causes chemical changes, sensory and microbiological in fermented milk products. Lactobacillus casei is a bacteria that can produce organic compounds and hydrogen peroxide which is antibacterial. The antibacterial compound is a chemical or biological compound that can inhibit the growth and activity of pathogenic bacteria that can damage the quality of fermented milk. The study has been conducted to determine the effect of temperature and storage time on the quality of fermented milk with Lactobacillus casei. the temperature and duration of storage time of fermented milk with Lactobacillus casei highly significant (P 0.01) affected and can suppress the growth of bacteria E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The antimicrobial activity of Lactobacillus casei fermented milk at the storage temperature of 5C with a storage time of 30 days can suppress the growth of Staphylococcus aureus

    Motilitas Ascaridia galli Dewasa dalam Larutan Ekstrak Etanol Biji Palem Putri (Veitchia merrillii)

    ABSTRAK. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui motilitas Ascaridia galli dewasa dalam ekstrak etanol biji Veitchia merrillii. Ekstrak etanol V. merrillii dianalisis fitokimia. Sebanyak 16 ekor cacing A. galli dewasa dibagi kedalam empat kelompok. Cacing pada kelompok pertama adalah kelompok tanpa perlakuan. Cacing pada kelompok kedua diberi 0,6 mg/ml levamisole. Cacing pada masing-masing kelompok ketiga dan keempat diberi 50 dan 100 mg/ml crude ekstrak biji V. merrillii. Motilitas A. galli ditentukan dalam skor persentase setelah 12, 24, 36 jam dengan menggunakan kriteria: 3 (badan bergerak), 2 (hanya sebagian badan bergerak), 1 (tidak bergerak tetapi masih hidup), 0 (mati). Hasil fitokimia V. merrillii mengandung alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoids. Ekstrak biji V. merrillii dosis 100 mg/ml secara in vitro dapat mempersingkat selama 12 jam waktu motilitas cacing A. galli dewasa. Penelitian ini mengindikasikan potensi anthelmintik berbasis herbal untuk pengendalian A. galli.(Motility of Ascaridia galli adult worms in vitro in ethanolic extracts of Nuts Veitchia merrillii)ABSTRACT. The purpose of this research was to know the motility of Ascaridia galli adult worms in aqueous ethanolic extracts of nuts Veitchia merrillii. The ethanolic extract of the V. merrillii was analyzed. Amount of sixteen head A. galli adult worms were divided into four groups. The first group, worms were left as un-treated normal controls. The second group, worms were treated with concentrations of 0,6 mg/ml levamisole. The third and fourth group, worms were treated with crude aqueous ethanolic extract of 50 and 100 mg/ml concentrations nuts of the V. merrillii, respectively. Motility of A. galli were determined after 12, 24, 36 hour by mean of persentage scored using the following criteria: 3 (moving whole body), 2 (moving only parts of the body), 1 (immobile but alive), and 0 (died). The result of phytochemical V. merrillii contains alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids. V. merrillii nuts extract concentrations of 100 mg/ml in vitro can shorten the time motility A. galli adult worms for 12 hours.     ABSTRACT. A study on the effect of addition of kuluwih on quality and organoleptic test of abon sapi conducted at meat and fish processing loboratory and livestock food laboratory of animal husbandry department faculty of agriculture of syiah kuala university, in august 2006. The research design was completely randomized design that consists of 5 treatments with 4 replications. The treatments were; A = 100 % abon sapi; B=abon sapi and 5 % keluwih; C= Abon sapi and 10% keluwih; D = Abon sapi and 15% keluwih; and E= Abon sapi and 20% keluwih. The results showed that there were no significant effect of addition keluwih on abon sapi on quality and organoliptic test. There was also no significant effect of addition keluwih on rot test that the ammoniac yield was relatively low so that the abon sapi was safely consumption

    ABSTRACT. The aim of this experiment is to investigate a possibility to include tofu by-product in broiler diet without causing adverse performances. This study was conducted in poulty production Lab. Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. The study performed 80 unsex day old chick, strain CP 707, Charoen Pokphan product, for which the chikens were divided into for diet treatment. The study was desingned into Completely Randomized Design (CRD) containing for different diet treatment. ei. R1 (Control diet with 0% of tofu by product. R2 (the diet containing 2.5% of tofu by-product), R3 (the diet containing 5% of tofu by-product, and R4 (the diet containing 7.5% of tofu by-product). Each treatment consisted of five chiks. Investigated variables included final body weight, body weght gain, feed consumption, feed conversion, and income over feed and chick coast (IOFCC). The data were analyzed by an analysis of variance and as a significant effect was detected, the analysis was continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test based on Steel and Torrie (1991). Result of this study showed that the inclusion of up to 5% of tofu by-product in the diet were not significantly defress body weight, body weight gain, feed consumpsion, and feed conversion compared to the control. However, the inclusion of 7.5% of tofu by-product significantly defress body weght, body weight gainfeed consumpsion. The was no significant effect on feed conversion as tofu by-product was included 7.5% in the diet. The inclusion of tofu by-product could minmize diet cost and increase. Income and Over Feed and Chick Cost (IOFCC). However, the highest IOFCC was detected in the untilization of 5% of tofu by-product was still possible to be included in poulty diet up to 5% without significantly depress broiler ferformances.Key word :Tofu by-product; Broiler diet; Body weight; Feed Consumption; Feed conversio

    ABSTRACT.A research on the effect of Stylosanthes guyanesis on production of Pannicum maximum, Staria splendid, Brachiaria decumbens, and Cynodon Plectostachyus have been conducted at UPTD (Unit Pelaksana Tugas Dinas) Saree, Aceh Besar. The grasses were planted mixed with stylosanthes guyanesis. The method used was completely randomized design (CRD) with factorial pattern of 4 x 4 with 4 replications. The first factor consist of 4 different kind of grasses e.g Pannicum maximum (R1) Staria splendid (R2), Brachiaria decumbens (R3) and Cynodon Plectostachyus (R4). The second factor was mixed palnting with stylosanthes guyanesis. Parameters studied were number of tiller, height of grass, and herbage yield. Data were analyzed by analyzed of variance and continued by least significant different test (LSD) (Steel and Torrie, 1983). The result showed that mixed cultivation of grass with leguminose (Stylosnthes guyanesis) was better on number tiller, height of grass, and herbage yield compared to unmixed planting grasses

    ABSTRACT. A study on the use vegetable oil as energy source in diet to decrease cholestrol concentration of quail egg conducted at exprimental Farm-Syiah Kuala University. The study was designed by Completely Randomized Design., divided into 5 treatments of vegetable oil source; soybean oil; coconut oil, palm oil, corn oil and zaitun oil. Result of present study showed that the difference in vegetable oil source in diet affected cholestrol concentration of quail diet. The use of palm or corn oil in quail diet has a more positive affect to decrease cholestrol concentration of quail egg. Corn oil in diet decrease 18.7 % cholesetrol and 23.8 % LDL compared to coconut oil. Differences in vegetable oil source in diet also significantly affected egg production but dit not affected body weight gain of quail

    ABSTRACT. Fermentation of rice straw incriased its nutritive value, digestibility and palatability. The aim of the present experiment was to study the effect of feeding rations composed of fermented rice straw supplement with urea and probiotic, and mixed with concentrate. Eighteen Etawah -grade bucks (age 1.5 years) were assigned into a completely randomized design to study nutrient intake and apparent degestibility of three dietary treatments. The rations as treatments were as follow: CFR=concentrate + chopped fermented rice straw:; Complete=concentrate + groud fermented rice straw; ELG = concentrate + elephan grass. Dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) intake of bucks were not different significantly among treatments. Apparent degestibility of DM was not different, however CP was significantly lower (p0.05) for the GFR treatments compared to the other two treatments. These results suggest that fermented rice straw can be uded to substituse the fresh elephant grass
