    The new PhD, Master's and Bachelor's degree students working in interdiscplinary groups at the Department of Natural Sciences at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) often lack experience in the field of research data management. This poster highlights the need of standardising the best practices on file naming and sheds light on the methods of knowledge transfer that could be implemented to target the community in academic space. The poster was created as part of the certificate course Research Data Management at Technische Hochschule Köln (2024/2025)

    Rodas6P and Tsit5DA - two new Rosenbrock-type methods for DAEs

    Two new Rosenbrock methods for solving index-1 differential algebraic equations are presented. Rodas6P is a sixth-order method based on the same design principles as the Rodas3P, Rodas4P, and Rodas5P methods. Tsit5DA is based on an explicit solution approach for the differential equations and a linear-implicit approach for the algebraic equations. Such a fourth-order method has already been presented in Rentrop, Roche & Steinebach, 1989. Tsit5DA now provides a significantly improved fifth-order method which is based on the well known Tsit5 method. The theoretical properties of the new methods are verified by some order tests and benchmarks

    Music Festivals as Social Venues: Method Triangulation for Approaching the Impact of Self-Organised Rural Cultural Events

    The SIKUL research project examines the case of a self-organised music festival, which is understood as a social innovation in the field of arts and culture, in order to answer the following question: What effects do social innovations in arts and culture have on the members of the public involved in rural areas? How do they impact the region? To this end, a triangulation of methods has been used in conjunction with seven expert interviews that were analysed using focused interview analysis as well as a multimodal image analysis of the festival’s social media presence supplemented by a descriptive study of the festival’s cooperation, pictured on social media. The festival is a free space for the organisers. It promotes self-expression and learning. For decades and across several generations, a community of care has existed that extends beyond the festival experience into everyday life. Thus, the festival is a self-organised social space. Involvement in the festival allows participants to express and mutually reinforce their connection to the region. The festival primarily cooperates with regional stakeholders within a 10-km radius and is thus a creative driver in the region. Social innovations in arts and culture play a significant role in local cohesion and identity-building in rural regions

    Health or wealth? How gendered demands, resources and work–family interferences relate to entrepreneurial income and health

    Purpose Many female entrepreneurs face greater demands from work and non-work domains than their male counterparts. This study investigates associations between agentic and communal job demands, work–family interferences and resources (temporal autonomy and self-efficacy) with female and male entrepreneurs' health complaints and income to explore nuanced gender differences in entrepreneurial success. Design/methodology/approach Cross-sectional data were analyzed from the German BAuA-Working Time Survey (Wöhrmann et al., 2021) with N = 1,370 entrepreneurs (922 male, 448 female). Findings Communal job demands were positively related to health complaints only among male entrepreneurs, whereas family–work conflict was positively associated with health complaints only among female entrepreneurs. In terms of income, self-efficacy showed positive associations for females, but not for males. Agentic job demands were positively associated with income for both genders, while communal job demands were only positively related to income for female entrepreneurs. Originality/value Due to limited theoretical and empirical attention to gender, this study contributes to a better understanding of both commonalities and unique differences in how male and female entrepreneurs experience challenges arising from work and life domains. We complement prior research on the job demands-resources model (JD-R) by integrating gender and congruity theory as well as the 5M-framework

    BPMN startQuantity – How to Combine Multiple Flows into One

    This video introduces the Thread Merge pattern in BPMN, explaining how multiple parallel execution threads can be synchronized and combined into a single thread before an activity is allowed to start. Using a license plate production example, the tutorial illustrates how individual requests are collected and processed together as a batch. A central focus of the video is the BPMN startQuantity attribute, which specifies how many incoming tokens are required before an activity becomes enabled. The tutorial explains how this mechanism provides fine-grained control over task activation and supports modeling scenarios in which work should only commence once a predefined number of parallel branches have completed. The video combines conceptual explanation with practical modeling guidance, demonstrating how thread merging can be implemented in BPMN and simulated using standard modeling tools. It highlights typical application scenarios and clarifies how this pattern differs from gateway-based synchronization.
