No full textThis paper presents a comprehensive study of virtual 3D object manipulation along 4DoF on real surfaces in mixed reality (MR), using hand-based and tangible interactions. A custom cylindrical tangible proxy leverages affordances of physical knobs and tabletop support for stable input. We evaluate both modalities across isolated tasks (2DoF translation, 1DoF rotation/scaling), semi-combined (3DoF translation+rotation), and full 4DoF compound manipulation. We offer analyses of hand interactions, tangible interactions, and their comparison in MR tasks. For hand interactions, compound tasks required repetitive corrections, increasing completion times—yet surprisingly, rotation errors were smaller in compound tasks than in rotation-only tasks. Tangible interactions exhibited significantly larger errors in translation, rotation, and scaling during compound tasks compared to isolated tasks. Crucially, tangible interactions outperformed hand interactions in precision, likely due to tabletop support and constrained 4DoF design. These findings inform designers opting for hand-only interaction (highlighting trade-offs in compound tasks) and those leveraging tangibles (emphasizing precision gains despite compound-task challenges)

Based on the concept of the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin or the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton, we invited three individuals with high data competence from different scientific fields (“Data Experts”) to participate as part of the Data Competence College:

For three days we aimed to create a space where not only local scientists, and especially early career researchers, learn from the data experts and each other regarding research data and methods but also data experts could inspire each other. The schedule included keynote presentations by all data experts, poster and group presentations by the participants, 1:1 sessions between data experts and early career researchers, as well as a method- and data-related workshop. We aimed foremost to create an environment in which everyone feels safe to give input, share their knowledge and learn from the other participants and experts

No full textSeit November 2023 arbeiten deutschlandweit elf Datenkompetenzzentrumsprojekte mit dem gemeinsamen Ziel, die Vermittlung von Forschungsdatenmanagement- und Datenkompetenzen in der Wissenschaft nachhaltig zu stärken. Die Zentren zeichnen sich durch unterschiedliche Schwerpunkte und methodische Ansätze aus, setzen jedoch in der Regel auf die Entwicklung innovativer Schulungs- und Lehrformate. In diesem Kontext sind eine Vielzahl von Themen und Aktivitäten relevant, beispielsweise die Durchführung von Lehr- und Weiterbildungsveranstaltungen, die Sammlung, Annotation und Bereitstellung existierender und/oder Erstellung neuer Lehr- und Lernmaterialien als (Open) Educational Resources (OER) oder die Erstellung von Kompetenzmodellen, Mikro-Einheiten, Lehr-und Lernpfaden sowie Curricula. Die Datenkompetenzzentren betten sich ein in ein Ökosystem aus weiteren Initiativen (bspw. die NFDI und die FDM-Landesinitiativen), zu denen es vielfältige inhaltliche Anknüpfungspunkte gibt.
Ein 90-minütiges Vernetzungstreffen auf der FDM@Campus 2025 bot einen strukturierten Überblick über Konzepte, Herausforderungen und erste Ergebnisse in Lehre und Praxis und diskutierte diese entlang relevanter Fragestellungen, um Anknüpfungspunkte für Kooperationsmöglichkeiten und weitere Arbeiten zu identifizieren
