Detecting the Undetectable: Human Judgments and the Challenge of Synthetic Voices
Synthetic voices generated using artificial intelligence (AI) are becoming increasingly indistinguishable from human voices, raising important concerns about trust, deception, and detection in digital communication. This preliminary work synthesizes the current landscape of research on human perception in detecting synthetic voices. We reviewed 13 papers from databases including ACM, IEEE, Springer, and MDPI, and identified five main types of perceptual cues that users rely on to detect voice synthesis: Intuition/Gut Feeling, Liveliness, Emotions, Linguistic Features, and Acoustic and Environmental Features. Our findings highlight the need for further empirical user studies to better understand how individuals perceive and assess the risks posed by synthetic voices. Such research can inform both educational and regulatory strategies aimed at increasing awareness and mitigating the potential harms of synthetic voice technologies

Playing with Privacy: Exploring the Social Construction of Privacy Norms Through a Card Game
Investigating digital privacy behavior requires consideration of its contextual nuances and the underlying social norms. This study delves into users' joint articulation of such norms by probing their implicit assumptions and "common sense" surrounding privacy conventions. To achieve this, we introduce Privacy Taboo, a card game designed to serve as a playful breaching interview method, fostering discourse on unwritten privacy rules. Through nine interviews involving pairs of participants (n=18), we explore the decision-making and collective negotiation of privacy's vagueness. Our findings demonstrate individuals' ability to articulate their information needs when consenting to fictive data requests, even when contextual cues are limited. By shedding light on the social construction of privacy, this research contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of usable privacy, thereby facilitating the development of democratic privacy frameworks. Moreover, we posit Privacy Taboo as a versatile tool adaptable to diverse domains of application and research

3D Face Recognition: Implementation of Jribi's geodesic multipolar parameterization-based representation (2021)
Implementation of the 3D Face Recognition algorithm described in M. Jribi, S. Mathlouthi, and F. Ghorbel, "A geodesic multipolar parameterization-based representation for 3D face recognition," Signal Processing: Image Communication, vol. 99, 2021.
There is a C++ implementation and a python wrapper (Attention, this underlies BSD-3 Clause licensing) available.
As the Code was only tested with a single STL Face Image yet, it's currently only a Beta. Should you find any bugs, please report them back to me via mail: [email protected] or add issues in Github.

Retrofit of a combined heat and power plant with gas and steam turbines to hydrogen with special consideration of the balance of plant
In 2020, around 44% of natural gas in Germany was used in combined heat and power as well as in combined cycle gas turbines plants. As district heating will play an important role in future heating planning, the retrofit of these plants to hydrogen is a viable option. This paper analyzes a typical combined cycle power plant, including its balance of plant under consideration of different hydrogen blends. We show that retrofits are limited by the gas turbines in many cases. For instance, the preheater in the fuel gas system must be dimensioned higher than with natural gas. While pressure losses are very low, materials could be a problem due to higher volume flows. Additionally, the higher combustion temperatures in the gas turbine can compensate for possible efficiency losses in the Heat Recovery System Generator (HRSG) and steam turbine making this a suitable approach for electricity-led plants. However, for heat-led plants this leads to a reduction in the district heating output. Therefore, the performance of the HRSG must be considered as a limiting factor for heat-driven plants and the change in flue gas must be analyzed. Currently, hydrogen blends of 20–40 vol.-% appear feasible without major adjustments. The water content in the exhaust gas can also lead to problems in the HRSG and flue gas aftertreatment due to changes in the dew point. For higher hydrogen blends, a plant specific analysis is recommended
