The purpose of this study is to empirically elucidate the similarities and differences between focusing and mindfulness in everyday life. 210 female college students responded to a questionnaire about daily focusing manner, mindfulness, cognitive control of thought, rumination, refl ection, decentering, authenticity, and cognitive processes of emotion. Statistical analyses (i.e., correlational analysis, analysis of variance, hierarchical cluster analysis, correspondence analysis, loglinear model analysis) revealed remarkable similarities and differences between focusing and mindfulness. It proved that while a feature of mindfulness, in common with focusing, is psychologically to keep a distance from negative emotions/ thoughts and fi nally accept them as they are, a feature of focusing is to make a further search into the meaning of them through logically refl ecting on and making expression of them in words, instead of evading them as mindfulness does.

We studied the effects of active exercise on preventing muscle atrophy secondary to joint immobilization in rats. A unilateral ankle joint was immobilized in the functional position with a cast for the duration of seven days. In the active exercise group, the casts were removed for a session of treadmill running (20 min.) twice a day. In the fi xation group, the casts were changed twice a day. In the control group, the cast fi xation was not done. On the last day, the wet weight and maximum tetanic tension of the soleus were measured. Subsequently, a histological examination was carried out. According to the results of the muscle wet weights and lengths of the muscle fi ber cross-section minor axes, disuse muscle atrophy was prevented in the active exercise group. But, the tetanic tension was decreased not only in the fi xation group, but also in the active exercise group.原著departmental bulletin pape

application/pdfIn 1955, a solid Catholic community of Japanese settlement was formed in Bolivia. The name of the settlement is“ San Juan”. After the beginning of this settlement, Nagasaki immigrants who were descendants of Hidden Christian in the Edo period had been played a central role in the Catholic community. This paper aims to outline the settlement history through Historical and Cultural Anthropological approach. Let us briefly view the outline of the history as follows below.|In 1955,sixteen families, which include three Catholic families, went to San Juan as the first Japanese immigrants. They continued to preserve their Catholic faith, even during the difficult times at the beginning of settlement ,and in 1958,they built a small church. After building this church, they asked the Japan Catholic Migration Commission to dispatch to San Juan a priest with Japanese language ability.|By 1960 to 1961,a Spanish priest who spoke Japanese fluently and held Catholic believers in a leading position was sent from Japan to San Juan as by the request of the Nagasaki immigrants. In 1961,the priest and the Catholic believers of San Juan built a blick church at the center of the settlement.|In the 1960s,many Buddhists converted to Catholicism, and the Catholic community of the settlement developed greatry. After 1968,members of the commyunity visited Cotoca-a sacred sites where a wooden statue of Virgin Mary was found in the primeval forest-every year.In 1995,they also visited some other world famous Catholic sacred places such as Fatima, lourdes,Vatican and Jerusalem.Their faith grew stronger with these pilgrimage experiences|At the same time,a Japanese priest and many sisters have also made a great contribution for this community.Nowadays,a priest,a brother and five sisters who grown up at this settlement are working all over the world.departmental bulletin pape

Dietary education by nutrition teachers and its relationship with dietary habits of children and parents

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn this study, we aimed to elucidate the impact that the number of hours of dietary education by nutrition teachers - namely subjects teaching and guidance during lunchtime - has on the dietary habits of children and parents. We analyzed findings from the Hiroshima Prefectural Board of Education’s“ Dietary Education Implementation Survey” targeting nutrition teachers and school nutrition staffs, as well as the“ Dietary Habit Survey” targeting children and parents.|Results showed that the number of hours of guidance during lunchtime by nutrition teachers in primary schools was not significantly different from that of school nutrition staffs; however, the number of hours of subjects teaching was significantly greater.|In children attending primary schools that spend extensive time on subjects teaching by nutrition teachers, the percentage of affirmative answers was significantly higher with regard to questions such as“ Do you have a balanced breakfast that has grains, a main dish, and vegetables?”,“ Do you help prepare and clean up after meals?” and“ Do you cook with your family or on your own at home?”. In parents of children attending such schools, the percentage of affirmative answers was significantly higher with regard to questions such as“ Do you prepare breakfasts balanced in grains, a main dish, and vegetables?”,“ Do you and your children talk about things they learned in school regarding healthy diets, such as consuming vegetables?” and“ Do your children sometimes cook on their own or with family members at home?”.| In addition, in children attending schools that spend extensive time on guidance during lunchtime, the percentage of affirmative answers was significantly higher with regard to questions such as“ Do you eat everything when vegetables are in your meals?” and“ Do you finish your entire meal?”. In parents of children attending such schools, the percentage of affirmative answers was significantly higher with regard to questions such as“ Do you and your children talk about school lunch menus at home?”| These results suggest that subjects teaching and guidance during lunchtime influence different dietary behaviors of children and parents. This highlights that ensuring the provision of both subjects teaching and guidance during lunchtime by nutrition teachers are of crucial importance.departmental bulletin pape
