This is a lecture-based activity designed to stimulate discussion in the classroom. Students are introduced to shrimp aquaculture and harvest and consider the environmental and social impacts of shrimp farming. The activity takes about 30 minutes

Hardness of Materials- Introduction
This lesson plan from Edmonds Community College will serve as an excellent introduction to the hardness of materials. The module illustrates the differences in properties between different materials. Students will determine property differences between different types of materials, observe property differences between materials of the same class, measure, record and report their results and observe differences in results due to operator error. Galvanized Metal Lab
This lab experiment "uses a piece of galvanized metal to quantify the loss of atoms during a chemical reaction." A piece of galvanized metal will be placed in muratic acid; students will re-determine the mass of the metal afterwards. The main goal of the experiment is to teach students the relative difference in reactives of iron and zinc to muratic acid. This activity would be appropriate for high school level students. Demonstrating The Effects Of Processing On Structure And Properties Via The Annealing And Strain Hardening Of Copper: Part One - Microstructure
This module will demonstrate "the structure-properties-processing relationship fundamental to materials science." Students will gain a further understanding of the affects of annealing as well as the effects of cold work on the properties and microstructure of copper. This is part one of a two-part lesson; the second part may be found here.The module would be best for college undergraduate students and should take around three hours to complete. Minnesota Geological Survey
The Minnesota Geological Survey (MGS) was established in 1872 as part of the University of Minnesota. The function of the MGS is to serve "the people of Minnesota by providing systematic geoscience information to support stewardship of water, land, and mineral resources." This website from the Digital Conservancy at the University of Minnesota provides access to all of items published by the MGS. The items are contained within the Collections area, and visitors will find headings here such as "Geology of Minnesota Parks," "County Atlas Series," and the "Bulletin of the Minnesota Geological and Natural History Survey." First-time visitors can check out the Recent Submissions area on the right-hand side of the page to look over some new findings, including hydrogeological maps of different counties around the state. One item that should not be missed is the "Geology of Minnesota: A Centennial Volume" from 1972. It's a tremendous volume and one that cannot be ignored by students of the physical landscape and geological history of the state

Rocks and Geology in the San Francisco Bay Region
This guide provides illustrated descriptions of 46 common and important varieties of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock found in the San Francisco Bay region. Rock types are described in context of their identification qualities, how they form, and where they occur. The guide also provides a discussion of regional geology, plate tectonics, the rock cycle, the significance of the selected rock types in relation to both earth history and the impact of mineral resources on the development in the region. There is also information on where rocks, fossils, and geologic features can be visited on public lands or in association with public displays in regional museums, park visitor centers, and other public facilities
