Sketches of the History of Electromagnetics
Authored by Jeff Biggus, this website provides a history of light, electricity, magnetism and electromagnetic theory, placed in a linked timeline order with corresponding biographical sketches. The sketch traces the history from antiquity to the experiments done by Patrick Blackett and Giuseppe Occhialini in 1933. The page is personally authored and published, but Biggus does provide the sources of his research and footnotes those on the site. While just a broad overview, this is still a worthwhile source for a quick history of electromagnetism

Created by Dr. Mark Winter of WebElements Ltd., this is an extensive periodic table of the elements on the world-wide web. Included is extensive information about elements and compounds. You can select from a series of different categories about the chemical elements, some of these includes: essentials, history, content, uses, geology, biology, compounds, crystal structures, thermochemistry, electronegtivity, atoms, atom and ion sizes, bond enthalpies, isotopes, lattice energies, NMR, physics, orbital properties, pictures, allotropes and chemistry. A simpler "Scholar Edition", aimed at students, is also included

Project 2061: Benchmarks for Science Literacy On-line
This resource is a free online version of the Benchmarks compiled and published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). It is a statement of what all students should know and be able to do in science, mathematics, and technology by the end of grades 2, 5, 8, and 12. The document is searchable, and contains links to cognitive research for each benchmark category. Benchmarks does not advocate particular teaching methods or curriculum design. It was developed to provide a research-based sequence of specific learning goals that educators can use in curriculum building
The Physics Classroom: Energy Transformation for Downhill Skiing
Created by Tom Henderson of Physics Classroom.com, this page features an animation of a skiier descending down a 58-meter slope. The first part of the animation depicts the changing ratio of potential-to-kinetic energy. At the end of the run, the skiier encounters unpacked snow and loses total mechanical energy to the dissipative force of friction. Bar graphs for W (Work) and TME (Total Mechanical Energy) illustrate the relationship between work and mechanical energy. This activity contains a full text discussion of each process as it occurs. This lesson is part of a comprehensive online tutorial written for high school physics students
Exhibits and Other Online Resources for History of Physics and Allied Fields
This website, a part of the American Institute of Physics (AIP) Center for History of Physics, contains a number of collections on specific topics in physics history. Topics include Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, and the Discovery of the Electron. Each collection includes a discussion of the topics along with photos and other illustrations. This is a nice resource to give students perspective on the history of this topic

This site discusses the planet Jupiter. Some of the topics discussed include: its interior, surface, and atmosphere, its magnetosphere, its moons and rings, missions, myths, and latest news. Also includes numerous pictures and links to additional websites for more information. The site is also available in Spanish
NOVA: Last Extinction
What, some ask, was the "last extinction?" It's a fair query indeed, and it happens to be understood as the period approximately 13,000 years ago when large animals were killed off across the North American continent. The exact cause of this extinction remains unknown, but this engaging program offered as part of the long-running NOVA series on public television offers up one particularly interesting theory. On this site, visitors can watch a preview of the program, and then make their way through six interactive sections, including "The Extinction Debate" and "Stone Age Toolkit". In "The Extinction Debate" visitors will be introduced to the wide range of scientific theories that have been actively debated and discussed in regards to this extinction. Moving on, the "Stone Age Toolkit" allows users to play a lively matching game where they can learn about the role that ten different primitive artifacts played in the lives of humans thousands of years ago. The site is rounded out by a teacher's guide and a set of additional links and readings

Tutorial on using HEC-GeoRAS with ArcGIS 9.3
This tutorial is designed to expose users to basic functions in HEC-GeoRAS for pre- and/or post-processing of GIS data and HEC-RAS results for flood inundation mapping using ArcGIS. It is expected that you are familiar with HEC-RAS and ArcGIS. If users want to get into details of HEC-GeoRAS that are not covered in this tutorial, they should refer to the HEC-GeoRAS users manual
