Diluting Bacterial Cultures
This video from CUNY Kingsborough Community College describes diluting bacterial cultures. The brief demonstration is described step by step and would be easy to replicate in a laboratory setting. Running time for the video is 4:50
Transferring a Bacterial Culture to an Agar Slant
This video from CUNY Kingsborough Community College describes how to transfer a bacterial culture to an agar slant. The brief demonstration is described step by step and would be easy to replicate in a laboratory setting. Running time for the video is 0:34

Transforming America's Community Colleges: A Federal Policy Proposal to Expand Opportunity and Promote Economic Prosperity
Community colleges are the bedrock of American higher education, and young and old alike use their facilities to gain specific technical skills and explore the world of the liberal arts. This May 2009 policy brief from the Brookings Institution's Blueprint for American Prosperity series offers a few policy suggestions on how the federal government might reinvest in community colleges across the nation. The twelve-page brief was authored by Sara Goldrick-Rab, Douglas N. Harris, Christopher Mazzeo, and Gregory Kienzi. The brief offers a number of concrete suggestions for the federal government, including the recommendation that they should establish national postsecondary goals and also devote a significant portion of existing funding to improve and evaluate teaching practices in these institutions
Work and Energy
Created by Tom Henderson of Physics Classroom.com, this web site contains a number of tutorials relating to work and energy. Each tutorial explains a subject and provides exercises to test the user's understanding. Some are accompanied by images, animations or graphs to illustrate the concepts. Among the subjects are work, potential and kinetic energy, mechanical energy, power and the work-energy theorem. This is one subset of a much larger collection of physics resources intended for use by high school students
What Does the NAEP Science Assessment Measure?
This article provides details on the NAEP Science Assessment. NAEP measures the science knowledge and skills of fourth-, eighth-, and twelfth-grade students. The assessment was developed by the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB). Students are assessed in science in the areas of earth, physical and life sciences
Operating Systems
Stanford's Computer Science department presents this course on operating systems taught by David Mazières in Winter of 2009. The course covers concurrency, synchronization, scheduling, linking, virtual memory, memory allocations, file systems, networking, protection, security, and virtual machines. On the site, visitors will find the course syllabus, lecture notes, reference materials, and old exams from past iterations of the course. There are also four programming projects on the following topics: threads, user programs, virtual memory, and file systems. It's an excellent resource for educators in computer science and technician training courses to help supplement operating systems education
Dynamic Digital Maps
A Dynamic Digital Map (DDM) is a stand-alone program that displays and links maps, images, movies, data and text, such as map explanations and field trip guides. DDMs appear as thematic maps containing camera icons and map symbols that link images, movies and text or analytical data related to the mapped locations. DDM content, and access to it, is summarized by a searchable list of images, maps, or articles. DDMs are web-enabled and browser independent and are made using the cross-platform Revolution programming environment in the form of a 'template', an open source program into which the user can insert metadata (mostly file names) that enable the program to open existing maps, images, figures and movies from an organization of directories. The site features an automated tour on how to use DDMs, a link to download the template source code, and links to tutorials and example DDMs
Quick Reference Tables
This site provides tables of population, gross national income per capita, total gross national income, purchasing power parity, gross domestic product, and country classifications which can be used to make regional comparisons for people, environment, economy, states and markets, and global links. The data sets are from the year 2003. The tables are in Adobe Acrobat format
Physics Classroom: Projectile Motion
Created by Tom Henderson of Physics Classroom.com, this seven-part resource is an excellent introduction to the characteristics of projectile motion and how projectiles are described numerically. Through in-depth explanations and animations, it explores vertical acceleration and explains why there are no horizontal forces acting upon projectiles, a common student misconception. The last two sections are devoted to problem solving
