    Discovering the Self in Islam: Self-Striving, Self-Regard, and Self-Neglect

    AbstractThis study explored some self domains and reviewed them through Islamic perspective, more particularly self-knowledge and faith. It provided an extensive literature on particular concepts of self-striving, self-regard, and self-neglect. To briefly point out, the self has many origins, however deeply noted as such heart, spirit, and psyche in Islam. From these, this study looked at the two known self domains: self-striving, and self-regard. Apart from these concepts, researchers differently chose self-neglect. With this, the study indicated the self-neglect is an important concept as defensive behavior and these all self concepts might be useful as a central of human nature for future experimental development.Keywords: self, Islam, self-striving, self-regard, self-neglect, personalit

    Analyzing Risk Factors for Brain Damages in a Group of Newborns with High Risk of Neurodevelopmental Sequelae: A Moroccan Study

    Abstract The aim of the study is to identify risk factors for occurrence of perinatal brain injury objectified in transfontanellar ultrasound (TFU) in a group of infants with high risk of neurodevelopmental sequelae. It’s a retrospective study, conducted at the neonatal intensive care unit of the Children's Hospital of Rabat, during the period from 1 January to 31 December 2014. Were included newborns hospitalized for a medical condition with intrauterine croissance retardation (ICUR) more than 5 days and have survived. The neurological workup includes TFU made between day 2 and day 5 of life. Data analysis was performed on SPSS 18.0 software. The level of significance was p <0.05.  The percentage of newborns that developed neurological damage to the TFU was 36%. Patients with abnormalities in the TFU had a breakdown time, duration dependence of O2, duration of hospitalization and a higher frequency of nosocomial infections than patients without abnormality. The interest in the prevention of nosocomial infections is to try to shorten the duration of invasive ventilation, favoring fast relay noninvasive ventilation. Keywords: brain injury; newborns; prematurity, neurodevelopmental sequelae, trans-fontanellar ultrasound.Â

    The Role of Gender as Moderator between Cognitive-Emotional Regulation Strategies and Internalizing/Externalizing Behavioural Problems among Adolescents

    AbstractInternalizing/externalizing behavioural problems among adolescents are the most important issue in adolescents’ mental health. Cognitive-emotional regulation strategies are the important protective and risk factor for internalizing/externalizing behavioural problems. In the present study the moderating role of gender in the relationship between cognitive-emotional regulation strategies and internalizing/externalizing behavioural problems among adolescents was investigated. The respondents were 328 students who filled out Youth Self Report and Cognitive-Emotional Regulation Questionnaire. The moderating effect of gender were estimated by AMOS and the model fit indicated that gender did not have any significant moderating role in the relationship between positive and negative cognitive-emotional regulation strategies and internalizing/externalizing behavioural problems among adolescents.Keywords: internalizing/externalizing, cognitive-emotional regulation, gender, adolescent

    “Pasien Pandai†Program: An Effort to Increase Adherence to Medication In Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Patients

    Abstract Diabetes Mellitus type 2 (DM 2) is a type of chronic disease that is essentially incurable. The only possible effort for health maintenance is self-management to keep blood glucose levels normal. Although adherence to medication arrangements is important for patients, their tendency to comply is relatively low. Having seen this problem, there is a need for a psychological intervention that is focused on the growth of acceptance, strengthens commitment for a change, and facilitates behavioral change. The “Pasien PANDAI†(Patients with Acceptance and Action) Program was designed integratively to accommodate the stated three focuses. A Quasi-Experiment with The One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design was defined as the study design. The subjects of the experiment were five members Persadia (Diabetes Association of Indonesia), Yogyakarta branch. Data Analysis was done with Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and descriptive analysis. Research results indicate that “Pasien PANDAI†Program cannot increase adherence to medication in DM 2 patients (Z = -1,826 ; p > 0,05) with constant results up until follow-up (Z = -0,535 ; p > 0,05).     The Phase of Aggressive Behavior, Deprivation among the Inmates Age Group of Nigerian Prisons: A Survey of Sokoto Central Prison.

     Abstract The article examines the phase of aggressive behavior, deprivation, among the inmate's age group of Nigerian prison. However, the study elaborated the meaning of aggressive behavior; factors contributed to aggressive behavior, theory of aggressive behavior, literature review, method of information collection and data analysis. Therefore, prison setting can instigate aggressive behaviors, especially in Nigeria, where inmates are deprived of their particular right and are treated brutality in some instances studies shows, that Nigerian prisons are not adequately organized and made do as such, inmates are exposed to all kinds of atrocity. It should be noted that a condition of privation and lack of societal well-being especially among people being in an isolated environment as in the case with most prisons in Nigeria can degenerate to frustration and aggression which in turn can result in dangerous situations such as riots/ violence in the prisons. Aggression can lead to violence that may be adaptive under certain conditions regarding natural selection. That is most obviously the case regarding attacking prey to obtain food, or in anti-predator defense. The results showed that there is significant difference between the levels of aggressiveness with respect to the classes of age groups.     The Efficacy of Performance Appraisal to Increase Employees’ Job Satisfaction

    AbstractThis research aims  to find out the effectiveness of implementation performance appraisal toward job satisfaction of employees UMKM Bordir Dahlia in Kabupaten Kudus. Sampling was done by using population studies to 16 employees of UMKM embroidery Dahlia Kudus. The type of this research is quantitative with pra experiment approached by One group pre and posttest design method. Data analysis on this research using non parametric with different test techniques Wilcoxon t-tes. The analysis result of different test scale job satisfaction before and after handling obtained  Z = - 1,268, with p = 0,205 (p>0,05), so that there is no differences on job satisfaction on employees of embroidery Dahlia before and after treatment by giving performance appraisal. It means treatment by giving performance appraisal unable to increase employees job satisfaction.     The Development of Indonesian Teacher Competence Questionnaire

    Abstract The enhancement of teacher’s quality is crucial, and it remains a challenge in Indonesia. As an effort to achieve a better education quality, a comprehensive reformation of the education system has to be done, especially regarding the aspect of teacher’s quality. The cultural uniqueness may impact the different values of competent teachers, make it typical to define a competence teacher from one place to another. Up to the present, there have been wide variations of the instruments used to measure teacher competence, but most are developed with regards to the western culture. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a culturally-sensitive instrument to assess teacher competence based on the situation of the targeted country where the teacher resides. High schools students in Jakarta and greater area participated in this study. Validity and reliability testing were performed to confirm the psychometric property of Teacher Competence Questionnaire (TCQ). It is concluded that TCQ is a valid and reliable instrument to measure teacher competence.     Students’ Well-Being Assessment at School

    Abstract This research aims at describing students’ well-being assessment at two private secondary schools in Sleman regency, Yogyakarta Special Province, Indonesia. The subjects of the research were 42 secondary school students in the area. This is an evaluative research by means of quantitative approach. The data collecting technique employed a focus group discussion (FGD) while the instrument used an FGD guide book based on a School Well-being Model (Konu and Rimpela, 2002). The data were analyzed quantitatively by means of thematic analysis. The research finding showed that the students’ school well-being was psychologically high at dimension of health status, but low at dimension of having, loving, and being. Another important finding is that there was a tendency of verbal, physical, as well as sexual bullying done by their classmates and teachers personally. Key words: well-being, psychological well being, school, and studentÂ

    College Adjustment of First Year Students: The Role of Social Anxiety

    AbstractThis research aims to analyze the correlation between social anxiety and college adjustment. 436 undergraduate psychology students of five universities in Central Java were involved in this study. All respondents completed a questionnaire about student adjustment to college, and social anxiety scale. Canonical correlation was conducted to analyze the data. The result showed that fear of negative evaluation correlates with academic and personal-emotional adjustment, but not with social adjustment and institutional adjustment, while social avoidance and distress correlate with all of the dependent variables. This study suggests about the role of social anxiety to college adjustment. These findings investigate further discussion about appropriate intervention to address adjustment problems among college students.Keywords: Academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, institutional adjustment, social anxiety
