Innovative assistance forms to address and reduce the emotional distress of adolescents
The adolescence is a specific period, when the young people come across changes regarding different areas of their lives, regarding school, physical changes in their bodes and emotions. All in all this period is a period of change and self-searching. Every adolescent faces these problems and emotional distresses in their own unique way. The objective of our survey was to determine what innovative methods are to be offered to the youth so their emotional distress could be helped with or diminished es well as how they can help themselves and contribute to diminishing emotional distress in the youth.
The theoretical part consists of a presentation of the adolescence period, focusing on emotional distress which is these days predominant with the youth or were written on pieces of paper by the adolescents visiting the innovative media course. The empirical part consists of the results gained by setting the innovative media into the student's hall of residence, survey questionnaires carried out among the youth and with the help of numerous interviews, carried out among the youth. The research showed that the adolescents are experiencing emotional distress these days, that they know how to face it and that they are well aware of facing techniques but that they also miss actual ways of help and people who could help or make them aware of specific emotional distress.
The research helps with understanding emotional distress with the youth, what do they need and how can we help them find help so that the obstacles such as stigmatization do not stop them from finding the help they need. It contributes a lot to closeness between the social workers and the youth. The research, with the help of innovative media presentation, can help the social workers to get an insight into what the youth is facing today and with that they can emphasize the topics which are interesting to the youth and the topics that they miss and need to solve and diminish their emotional distress
The use of line drawing in picturebook
The master's thesis is based on research of the field of picture books and the expressive abilities provided by drawing in line drawing. The work is divided into three parts: the theoretical part, the art-practical part and the empirical part. The first part presents historically important authors who have set important milestones in the field of picture books. The course of the development of the picture book in Slovenia is also presented. We defined the concept of a picture book and described its basic design elements, and in addition to these, we presented what role art elements play in the illustration of picture books. Given that the picture book is a special form of children's literature in which the text is accompanied by illustrations, we were interested in the role of the picture book in the visual literacy of the child and in its development. One part is devoted to the definition of a special form of picture book, which is a picture book without text, which is also called a silent book. In ordinary picture books, there is a double communication, that is visual, represented by illustration, and verbal, represented by text. In silent books, only the visual communication established by the illustrations is present, so here the artistic role is all the more emphasized and important. Silent books appeared in the 20th century, and today they are already fully integrated into the children’s literary world. Among the existing picture books, illustrations predominate, which differ in terms of artistic motif, artistic technique, use of artistic elements, etc. The artistic element color is most often essential in these illustrations and plays a major role, and in this master's thesis the emphasis is on the artistic element line and line drawing. On the basis of theoretical starting points about picture books, lines and drawings, we researched the expressive abilities provided by a line or a line drawing in its most basic meanings and forms. This research was carried out more thoroughly in the art-practical part, where six illustrations were created, a cover, a binding sheet and an inner cover for an author's picture book without text entitled What I See. The illustrations are based on a line drawing, which is directly related to the concept of abstraction, as the theoretical part also presents abstract art and abstraction. The primary expressive abilities of the line were also created and displayed through the process of abstracting motifs. The illustrations are formally analyzed, giving us a more comprehensive overview of the visual persuasiveness of the picture book. In the third, empirical, part, we present a qualitative research based on a descriptive method of research. The curriculum for fine arts in primary school states that sixth-graders also learn about the process of abstraction. A lesson was conducted with sixth-graders, where the task was to abstract the motif in a line drawing. Their art works are formally analyzed mainly with regard to the use of line in line drawing and understanding the process of abstracting a motif, as the purpose and goal was to determine how students understand and carry out the process of abstracting a motif
Employment of people with moderate intellectual disabilities in occupational and daycare centers in Slovenia
Employment is a very important factor for every individual, as it brings financial independence, increases autonomy and acceptance. This should also be available to individuals with moderate intellectual disabilities who, due to the current legislation, do not have the same rights to employment in the regular work environment. Most of them are a part of the occupational and daycare centers, where they work under special conditions, but do not enter into an employment relationship and receive only a symbolic payment. Some occupational and daycare centers in Slovenia are trying to find integrated employment for users in a regular work environment, even though it is not defined in the legislation and they are not obliged to implement it. According to the existing legislation, integrated employment is the most inclusive form of work for individuals with moderate intellectual disabilities, as they are included in the regular work environment and perform their work with appropriate support and adjustments.
In the theoretical part we defined the general characteristics of individuals with moderate intellectual disabilities and their possibilities for education. The basic laws governing the employment of the disabled, the importance and factors of employment of individuals with moderate intellectual disabilities, and various forms of employment implemented in Slovenia are presented below. Finally we present the development and role of occupational and daycare centers, various activities performed by occupational and daycare centers within the service management, protection and employment under special conditions, and the importance of integrated employment for people with moderate intellectual disabilities.
The purpose of this master’s thesis is to determine what forms of employment under special conditions are currently provided by occupational and daycare centers in Slovenia, to what extent integrated employment is carried out, what advantages and disadvantages of it are noticed by professionals in occupational and daycare centers, where do those who do not implement this form of employment see the limitations and what is their vision for the employment of individuals with moderate intellectual disabilities in the future. The data were obtained with a technical survey, using a non-standardized questionnaire, which was designed for the needs of the master's thesis. 30 professionals employed in occupational and daycare centers in Slovenia were included in the sample.
The results of the research show that most occupational and daycare centers in Slovenia run a cooperative and their own program, but they mostly use the cooperative program. It was found that most respondents who perform integrated employment find this form of employment appropriate for people with moderate intellectual disabilities and that it has more positive effects on them compared to other forms of employment. The advantages of integrated employment, which the respondents point out are raising awareness of the work skills, developing a sense of usefulness, importance, and self-confidence, and developing social skills of people with moderate intellectual disabilities. Occupational and daycare centers that implement integrated employment see the biggest obstacles in unregulated legislation, in finding employers and suitable jobs and in the lack of staff to introduce and monitor users in the work environment. The results show that those occupational and daycare centers that do not provide integrated employment attribute the reasons mainly to the lack of suitable staff and organizational problems, as well as to the search for suitable employers who would be willing to employ people with moderate intellectual disabilities.
The last part of the empirical section presents various examples of good practices encountered by occupational and daycare centers implementing integrated employment. By including them we wanted to show that people with moderate intellectual disabilities can perform work in a normal work environment with appropriate adjustments, support, and guidance. This indicates changes are needed to enable these individuals to better integrate into the work environment. Respondents most often suggest the need for a change in legislation, greater familiarization of employers with the population of individuals with moderate intellectual disabilities, the provision of additional staff, and awareness of good practices
Matrix in contemporary printmaking
In my master's thesis, I focus on the concept of the matrix in current printmaking production. For a long time now, it has been possible to observe the question in the field of graphic art, namely what is happening with the modern matrix and what it means for contemporary printmaking works. The master's thesis is also strongly connected with my own artistic work in the field of printmaking art, through which I want to find answers to these same questions in this way as well. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of researching, describing, explaining and presenting a modern current matrix. In addition, I am also interested in why and since when such shifts in the field of printmaking art can be observed. I believe that printmaking is strongly connected with progress not only in technology, but also with the entire wider social sphere, which I want to show with this master's thesis. In addition to describing and explaining the different types of matrices that can be observed in current printmaking production, I also deal with works of art and artists who create under the influence of a particular type of matrix. In the empirical part, I present the concept of the artist's book. The following is a description and presentation of my own art work, which is strongly related to the theme of the matrix as well as contemporary graphic art, the artist's book entitled Ana. The last part of the empirical work includes an analysis of an art workshop and a presentation of products, in which I introduced a modern, experimental matrix into the pedagogical environment. In the concluding part, I summarize the key findings and answers to research questions

Primary teachers' treatment of parental violence against children
Parental violence against children is a universal social problem. The privacy of families is
protected, so state interference in the family is very limited. However, because of the role
that the school plays in the life of every family, it is its duty to take part in preventing and
addressing domestic violence. To successfully deal with this problem, the educational
institutions must provide a clear system of assistance to a child experiencing domestic
violence, and appropriate knowledge in this area must be provided to the teachers. This
will create a sense of security for the child, the victim of violence, as well as for the
educational staff.
In this master's thesis, we investigated how primary school teachers deal with parental
violence against children, what their knowledge in this area is, what factors encourage or
discourage them from reporting suspected domestic violence against a child, and what
tolerance they have towards the use of physical and psychological violence as a means
of raising children. Finally, we also investigated the incidence of parental violence against
children within educational institutions in the 2019/20 school year. The study involved 150
primary school teachers who taught in the 2019/20 school year. Data were collected for
3 months using an online questionnaire.
The results of the research showed that primary school teachers are familiar with the
process of reporting and dealing with suspected parental domestic violence against
children, while their knowledge of the content of the Rules on the treatment of domestic
violence for educational institutions (2010) and the Manual for employees in educational
institutions: dealing with domestic violence (Filipčič and Klemenčič, 2011) is mostly very
deficient. Although the treatment of domestic violence within the educational system is a
team effort, we believe that primary school teachers would need further training in this
field. Primary school teachers are most encouraged to report perceived suspicions of
violence by the desire to help the pupil, the school’s principles, and previous positive
experiences with reporting, but are discouraged by the belief that reporting suspected
domestic violence will do more harm than good, by the doubt of the reality of violence,
and by concern for their own safety and the safety of their family. Primary school teachers
assess the permissibility of using physical violence (slapping, hitting with an object, wrist
slap) as an educational method according to the intensity of the act and not on the form.
However, they assess the permissibility of using psychological violence (threats, locking
the child in the room, banning extracurricular activities) as educational methods as nonviolent
or less violent educational methods, in contrast to verbal humiliation, which they
describe as a frequent or always violent method. Based on the obtained data, we can
conclude that primary school teachers either do not know how to recognize psychological
violence in specific cases or assess it as a milder form of parental violence against
children. The data obtained show that recognizing the psychological violence of parents
against children is less effective for primary school teachers than recognizing physical
vi
violence. As suspected domestic violence against children, primary school teachers in
the 2019/2020 school year most often perceived neglect as a form of parental violence
against children, followed by psychological violence, physical violence, economic
violence, and sexual violence. In the 2019/20 school year, primary school teachers most
often reported neglect as a form of parental violence against children, followed by physical
violence, psychological violence, economic violence, and last but not least, sexual
violence.
The results of the research cannot be applied to the entire population, but we believe that
the findings adequately reflect the situation in this research area and represent good
starting points for further research
Mountaineering content implementation in the first five grades of elementary school
The curriculum for physical education in primary schools requires five sports days per school year for each grade. Two sports days must have mountaineering content. In the master's thesis, we introduced the importance of walking for modern man, the history of mountaineering in Slovenia, and the position of mountaineering in the curriculum for physical education. We presented the phases of preparation, implementation, and analysis of a mountaineering trip as a part of a sports day. We highlighted the importance of the appropriate training for a primary school teacher, a mountaineering trip leader in primary school. In the empirical part, we updated the questionnaire based on Kristan (1987). According to the findings, we determined the state of mountaineering content realization in the first five grades of primary school throughout Slovenia and compared it with previous research. We focused on planning mountaineering trips as a part of sports days, on mountaineering content in the curriculum, on the activities of a mountaineering group at school, and the interest of primary school teachers in mountaineering in their private life. We were also interested in planning mountaineering trips as part of sports days according to the statistical region in which the primary school teacher works
Vegetable garden
The diploma thesis entitled Vegetable garden presents project work with explorative learning approach. Explorative learning is one of the basic learning principles in the preschool period and is classified as an active learning method that enables children to practically participate in activities and learn through actual experiences. The approach encourages children to be active, independent, teaches them to participate, plan, search, organize and document information. It enables them to design, discover, acquire long-term knowledge and gain new experiences through own activity.
In the theoretical part, I present characteristics or importance of learning and play in the preschool period, effects and advantages of active learning, explorative learning and project work in kindergarten. I also describe the role of a teacher and importance of introducing natural sciences and ecological values to kindergarten children. The empirical part of the diploma thesis includes a presentation of learning approach under the principles of closed exploration in a form of project work, the goal of which was to examine advantages and shortcomings of active explorative learning, role of a teacher, effect on motivation, curiosity, children’s participation, and their response to a new form of learning approach
Analysis of selected aspects of movement and health of preschool children during the epidemic
In the present thesis, we analysed aspects of health and physical activity in preschool children before, during and after interventions to contain the spread of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). 195 parents from Ljubljana, Vrhnika, Brezovica, Horjul and their surroundings took part in the survey. Only parents of children aged 2–6 years were included in the survey. We were interested in the frequency of children's physical activity in the urban and natural environments, and whether certain epidemic periods had an impact on the frequency of physical activity and time spent outdoors. We compared the frequency of children's outdoor activity before and during the epidemic and compared it with other foreign studies. In addition, we wanted to know how often children consumed fruit and vegetables during each wave of the epidemic and whether they were more likely to reach for fruit or vegetables than before. We also wanted to know whether children had regular mealtimes, as they did when in kindergarten.
All data were collected in July 2021 through an online survey sent to parents via various social networks. The data were then analysed in Microsoft Excel. The analysis was carried out in four phases. First, the data were quantified, recorded and tabulated according to the urban or natural environment, according to the frequency and time of physical activity during the week and at the weekend, and according to the frequency of fruit and vegetables consumption over a period of time and the number of meals per day. Then we calculated the percentages to see clearer differences in the variables. In the third step, the variables were plotted in graph from. In the final stage, we explained all our findings in writing and linked them to the literature and other international research.
The study found that children's physical activity in both outdoor urban and outdoor natural environments was the lowest during the first wave of the epidemic, with a 23.5 % decrease in urban and a 4.5 % decrease in natural environment during this period. Children were more likely to eat fruit than vegetables, with 74 % of children eating fruit and 58 % eating vegetables daily during the epidemic. Most parents (47 %) provided the same number of meals for their children during lockdown as before COVID-19, when children were in kindergartens, namely 3 main meals and 2 snacks. However, most children (50 %), had these meals adapted to their daily situation. The results showed that people got accustomed to a new lifestyle during the different waves of the epidemic, but became aware of the importance of children's outdoor physical activity as the frequency of outdoor physical activity increased again after the first wave of the epidemic
Second triad elementary school students’ knowledge and perceptions of Eurasian Lynx
The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), one of the three representatives of large carnivores in Slovenia, is currently the most endangered mammal in Slovenia. Involving and educating multiple stakeholders is essential for the permanent, successful protection and conservation of any species. Attitudes and knowledge begin to develop since young age, therefore ignorance and misconceptions can provoke negative attitudes even before the development of critical thinking. In this study, we wanted to test the knowledge and attitudes of students towards the lynx in the Second cycle of elementary school. Data were obtained through a questionnaire and a test of knowledge in primary schools from the area of permanent occurrence of lynx (Kočevsko) and the area without permanent occurrence of lynx (Gorenjska). We found that student's knowledge of the Eurasian lynx was extremely low. Acceptable results were achieved in the field of lynx biology, and very poor results in the field of lynx conservation. We also found that there are differences between individual classes, but contrary to expectations, the best results were achieved by 5th-grade students and the worst by 6th-grade students. There were also no statistically significant differences in knowledge between students according to gender or area of residence. In the analysis of attitudes, we found that there were no major differences between boys and girls, but girls did express a greater fear factor. As expected, there are statistically significant differences between students' knowledge status. Students who have achieved better results in the test are thus more inclined to lynx protection, learning about the species, and have less fear. Results of this study could provide new educational content, which will be based on the curriculum and will provide better knowledge and attitude towards large carnivores
