The 115th EuroSDR (European Spatial Data Research) Regular Meeting was held in Masala, Finland, from October 21 to 23, 2009. The meeting was organized by the Finnish Geodetic Institute and the National Land Survey. Dr. Željko Hećimović from the Croatian Geodetic Institute participated in the meeting.U gradu Masala u Finskoj održan je od 21. do 23. 10. 2009. godine 115. redoviti skup EuroSDR-a (European Spatial Data Research – EuroSDR). Organizatori skupa bili su Finnish Geodetic Institute i National Land Survey. U radu skupa sudjelovao je dr. sc. Željko Hećimović iz Hrvatskoga geodetskog instituta
Iskolčenje zemljišnih čestica i najstariji kamen međaš u Hrvatskoj iz 4. stoljeća prije Krista
Geographical position of the Chora Pharos (nowadays Starogradsko polje), climate conditions and brief historical development of colonization on the island of Hvar are described in the paper. Also described is how Greek from the island of Paros established the town Pharos (today’s Stari Grad) and how they constructed Chora Pharos (today’s Starogradsko polje). They divided the field Starogradsko polje into rectangular parcels with dimensions 1 Greek stage × 5 Greek stage (181 m × 905 m). The large project “Starogradsko polje” demonstrated that one Pharos foot equals 0.3026 m. They used the groma for pegging out orthogonal angles. Finally, there is a photograph of the boundary stone from the Chora Pharos (Starogradsko polje) from the 4th century before Christ which is deposited in the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb. This is the oldest boundary stone in Croatia and as geodesists, we can consider it a geodetic monument.U članku su opisani geografski smještaj faroske hore (Starogradskog polja), klimatski uvjeti i kratki povijesni razvoj naseljenosti otoka Hvara.

Establishing a spatial data infrastructure means improving the existing one and can be defined as a number of activities aiming at easier access to and wider dissemination of the existing spatial data, and easier and more efficient use of them. Considering importance and benefits of the spatial data infrastructure for the whole society, the improvement should be seen as a public project of permanent character. This paper gives a theoretical overview of planning and implementation of such project, as a possible model of improving the existing national spatial data infrastructure in Croatia.
The paper is a historical overview of beginnings of establishing trigonometric networks to determine the Earth's size and produce accurate maps. First, the book ''Five Books About All Kinds of Triangles'' from 1464 by Johannes Regiomontanus about existing trigonometry knowledge is described. This is followed by mention of Petrus Apianus and his book ''Cosmographicus Liber'' in which Reigner Gemma Frisius published his work in a supplement to a subsequent edition. In it, he proposed using trigonometric networks (triangulation) as an accurate method for determination of points on the Earth. It is little-known that the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe established a trigonometric network in Öresund, intending for it to become the foundation for producing a map of the entire Danish Empire. Unfortunately, he surveyed all required values in the trigonometric network, but did not calculate the trigonometric points' coordinates. Snellius (Willebrord Snel van Royen) was the first to establish a trigonometric network and calculate point coordinates and determined the Earth's size with the greatest accuracy of the time.
Cartography and Geographic Information Science in Current Contents
The Cartography and Geographic Information Science (CaGIS) journal was published as The American Cartographer from 1974 to 1989, after that as Cartography and Geographic Information System, and since then has been published with its current name. It is published by the Cartography and Geographic Information Society, a member of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping.Časopis Cartography and Geographic Information Science (CaGIS) izlazio je od 1974. do 1989. pod naslovom The American Cartographer, potom od 1990. do 1998. ima naslov Cartography and Geographic Information System, a od 1999. izlazi pod današnjim naslovom. Izdavač časopisa je američka udruga Cartography and Geographic Information Society članica organizacije American Congress on Surveying and Mapping
