The Barbara Petchenik Award was created by the International Cartographic Association (ICA) in 1993 as a memorial for Barbara Petchenik, a past Vice President of the ICA and cartographer who had a lifelong interest in maps for children. The awards are given out every two years, during the International Cartographic Conference. If possible, at least one award is given to each continent, with special attentation paid to the age of the author. The aim of the award is to promote children's creative representation of the world in graphic form, improve their cartographic and environment perception. The competition in Croatia was organized by the Croatian Cartographic Society. We received 171 children's drawing from 32 institutions, including kindergartens, elementary and high schools. The jury of Assist. Prof. Dr. Ivka Kljajić, Prof. Dr. Miljenko Lapaine and Ana Kuveždić Divjak from the Faculty of Geodesy of the University of Zagreb and Assoc. Prof. Ines Krasić and Igor Čabraja from the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb selected six best drawings with the theme My place in today's world which are going to be presented at the exhibition within the 26th International Cartographic Conference in Dresden, August 25-30, 2013.Nagradu Barbara Petchenik pokrenulo je Međunarodno kartografsko društvo (International Cartographic Association – ICA) 1993. godine kao uspomenu na Barbaru Petchenik, dopredsjednicu toga društva i kartografkinju koja je cijeli život radila s kartama i djecom. Ivka Kljajić, prof. dr. sc. 9. savjetovanje Kartografija i geoinformacije
In collaboration with the Department of Geography of the University of Zadar and Croatian Geographical Society, the Croatian Cartographic Society wants to contribute to the development of geoinformation, cartography, geography, and related fields, with a particular emphasis on GIS and spatial data infrastructure. A wide variety of topics and keynote speakers guarantee interesting lectures and a contemporary approach. The World GIS (GIS Day) is an international forum of users interested in geoinformation system (GIS) and technology displaying successful GIS applications. GIS Day was celebrated for the first time in 1999 (http://www.gisday.com/about.html). More than 950 events worldwide were registered on the occasion of GIS Day in 2012. This year, GIS Day is going to be celebrated on November 20, which is also the first day of the conference. The concept of spatial data infrastructure (SDI) is determined at the national level with the new Law about the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. The INSPIRE directive is a turning point in the approach to spatial data at the continental level. INSPIRE establishes the framework for collecting, processing, distributing and using spatial data in the future. It is also one of the major topics of this conference. Širok raspon ponuđenih tema i poznati pozvani predavači jamče zanimljivost izlaganja i suvremenost pristupa problematici.
A Study Tour to Paris, 2 – 7 May, 2013
Cilj i svrha putovanja u organizaciji Hrvatskog arhivističkog društva i Zagrebačkog arhivističkog društva bila su dva događanja: otvorenje izložbe "Prijestolnice slavenskih država kroz arhivsko gradivo" 6. svibnja 2013. u sjedištu UNESCO-a u Parizu i posjet izložbi "Moć dokumenata – osnovati, reći, pokazati, krivotvoriti autoritet (Le pouvoir en actes: fonder, dire, montrer, contrefaire l'autorité)" u Muzeju Nacionalnog arhiva Francuske, Hotel de Soubise.A tour organised by the Croatian Archival Society and Zagreb Archival Society had two events as its purpose: the opening of the exhibition on capitals of Slavic countries through archival materials at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on May 6, 2013, and the exhibition "Power through documents – establish, say, demonstrate, counterfeit authority (Le pouvoir en actes: fonder, dire, montrer, contrefaire l'autorité)", in the Museum of National Archives of France, Hotel de Soubise
Najcitiranije publikacije kartografa u Google Scholaru
Nowadays, three most popular citation databases are Web of Science (WoS), Scopus and Google Scholar (GS). In contrast to WoS and Scopus, GS is freely accessible. Comparing the three citation databases, WoS and Scopus have precisely defined and published criteria for selection of sources and papers from these sources. Google’s policy is quite non-transparent. In recent times, however, scientists have been increasingly citing data from GS in addition to data on presence and citations in databases WoS and Scopus. In the conclusion of a comparative analysis of number of citations of papers published in the Croatian Medical Journal in 2005 and 2006 according to the three citation databases, it is emphasized that GS may serve as an alternative bibliometric measure of citation frequency (Šember et al. 2010). An investigation of the number of citations for scientists from the fields of library and information sciences for the period 1996–2005, according to the three mentioned citation databases, has shown, among other things, that citations collected by GS are very useful. They are not of the same quality and significance as those from WoS and Scopus, but they point at a broader international echo of the cited papers than results obtained using WoS and Scopus (Meho, Yang 2007). Tri su najpopularnije citatne baze podataka danas Web of Science (WoS), Scopus i Google Scholar (GS). Međutim, u posljednje doba znanstvenici sve češće uz podatke o zastupljenosti i citiranosti, npr. pojedinih časopisa, u bazama podataka WoS i Scopus navode podatke i za GS.

From the field of cartography and geoinformation, there are journal’s article extracts given which are not cartographic first and whose complete texts are on the Internet, accessible to the members of Croatian academic and research community. Most journals can be accessed through the PERO browser (http://knjiznica.irb.hr/pero/index.php). For the journals not found through this browser, the complete texts of the mentioned articles are available for free on the given web-address. Next to every journal headline, in the brackets, it is noted which prominent bibliographic and quotation bases it is placed in: CC (Current Contents), SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded), and SSCI (Social Science Citation Index). It should be noted that, for some journals accessible through PERO browser, there is a delay of 6, 12 and even 18 months in accessing the newest issues. This number is given in the brackets next to the journal’s headline.Bullettin of the GSI (Geospatial Information Authority of Japan)http://www.gsi.go.jp/ENGLISH/page_e30092.htmlK.
