Wim Gerritsen's interesting biography of Maartje Draak (1907-1995), the second Dutch professor in Celtic Studies, can be summarized as if it were a medieval Irish triad: it is important for the history of Celtic Studies in the Netherlands and elsewhere; for the history of the Humanities in general; and for the history of women in academia

A tale of two derivatives: phase space symmetries and Noether charges in diffeomorphism invariant theories

For a field theory that is invariant under diffeomorphisms there is a subtle interplay between symmetries, conservation laws and the phase space of the theory. The natural language for describing these ideas is that of differential forms and both differential forms on space-time and differential forms on the infinite dimensional space of solutions of the equations of motion of the field theory play an important role. There are exterior derivatives on both spaces and together they weave a double differential complex which captures the cohomology of the theory. This is important in the definition of invariants in general relativity, such as mass and angular momentum and is also relevant to the study of quantum anomalies in gauge theories. We derive the structure of this double complex and show how it relates to conserved quantities in gravitational theories. One consequence of the construction is that conserved quantities can be calculated exactly at finite distance --- for example it is not necessary to go to asymptotic regimes to calculate the mass or angular momentum of a stationary solution of Einstein's equations, they can be obtained exactly by an integration over any sphere outside the mass even at finite radius

We study the Berkooz–Douglas matrix model using holography, lattice simulation and high temperature perturbative expansion. In particular we calculate the mass susceptibility of the theory. Our results show excellent agreement between lattice simulations and holography at low and intermediate temperatures T≤λ1/3. We also report a surprisingly good agreement between holography and perturbative high temperature expansion at T∼λ1/3

    Twin conformal field theories

Supersymmetric theories with the same bosonic content but different fermions, aka \emph{twins}, were thought to exist only for supergravity. Here we show that pairs of super conformal field theories, for example exotic N=3 and N=1 theories in D=4 spacetime dimensions, can also be twin. We provide evidence from three different perspectives: (i) a twin S-fold construction, (ii) a double-copy argument and (iii) by identifying candidate twin holographically dual gauged supergravity theories. Furthermore, twin W-supergravity theories then follow by applying the double-copy prescription to exotic super conformal field theories
