    Feminist Activism in Digital Culture: Problems of Class and Ethics

    Social media is a platform used by feminist activists for activism. It overcomes spatial and temporal barriers, and helps spread the movement's message more quickly and efficiently. The participatory culture encourages the feminist movement to develop more massively. Many argue that social media helps feminist activists to empower women. Related to the statement, this study observes how activism practices in social media represent women's voices and problems. This study also seeks to reveal the problems in the movement. The researcher observed five accounts of feminist activists on Instagram (@Indonesiafeminis, @lawanpatriarki, @perempuanfeminis, @muslimahfeminis, @perempuan.merdeka). Through the virtual ethnography method, the researcher found a representation problem when digital feminist accounts published the problems experienced by women through their content. These accounts only represent middle-class women's problems. There is also an ethical problem because these accounts tend to be reactive by ignoring the ethics of doing activism

    Digital Public Relations: Trend and Required Skills

    Public Relations have evolved adjusting its practices to fulfill the needs of its users. In this case, technology possesses a great influence on how PR operates and interacts within society. Various institutions move to digital Public Relations, relying heavily on digital platforms, forcing Public Relations practitioners to master a new set of skills. This research aimed to map digital public relations trends and investigate the digital public relations competencies needed. A number of public relations practitioners from various institutions were interviewed to meet the objectives. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to answer the research questions. The research found that today traditional and digital public relations work synergically and are still needed by organizations. Apart from having good communication, interpersonal, writing, analytical thinking, and soft skills, a public relations practitioner is expected to be familiar with the digital platform and have the ability to design digital content

    The Use of Instagram Stories at the Age of COVID-19 Pandemic

    One of Instagram’s features, Instagram stories (IS), which allows users to access videos and photos for 24 hours, is one of the prevalent features used by Instagram users. This qualitative research aims to investigate the use of IS during the COVID-19 pandemic by referring to The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a research framework. The framework observes ten external factors that influence the perception of ease of use and IS’s usefulness, affecting the user’s attitude to IS, leading to IS’s actual use. This study also found the pattern and form of IS uploads, as well as recommendations for the use of IS. Data were collected via interviews and observations of Informant’s Instagram Stories posts who are the active IS users who live in the red zones of COVID-19 spread in Indonesia. Overall, all Informants had good attitudes towards IS, which leads to the active use of IS

    Digital Communication through Online Learning in Indonesia: Challenges and Opportunities

    The technological revolution that has changed from analog to digital creates new challenges and opportunities, particularly when referring to the communication perspective. This study discusses communication through digital media and its dynamics in Indonesia. It comprehensively examined Ruangguru, the biggest online learning platform in Indonesia. This paper uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case-study method. It is aimed to analyze Ruangguru’s online learning communication patterns using the social presence theory in the dimensions of social context, online communication, and interactivity. The result of this study reveals many advantages offered by online learning. Nevertheless, online learning can not fully replace conventional learning, especially when viewed from the low dimensions of social context. In the online communication dimension, Indonesia is still hampered by technical problems, both from technology infrastructure and the readiness of teachers and students

    Police’s Public Relations to Enhance Mutual Understanding in Indonesia

    The study of police public relations is a new phenomenon that has been rising lately. Indeed, along with the growth of modernity, increasing disputes, the need for convergence, and the community environment, there have been increasing demands from the public for the police to make changes in their actions and attitude when dealing with the community. This research uses qualitative methodology as it explores activities carried out by police institutions. Hence, the a case study is a right research method because this research explores the government’s agency, especially within public policy. The research result shows that to complete this job correctly, the police need public support, and to maximize this support, the police need the functions of police’s public relations at all levels, from the National Police Headquarters to the District Police

    Trust Issues in the Health Communication of Childreen in Street Situation

    Children in street situations are a social problem faced in various cities in Indonesia. Efforts to protect children in street situations facing multiple issues. One of them is related to fulfilling the identity rights of children in street situations. This study aims to identify how a communication approach can foster interpersonal trust in children on the streets. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative using a phenomenology approach. There are many problems affecting confidence in children in street situations. It started from a lack of security and health issues that were not touched upon to the communication approach's problem. Communication intensity is the primary key to gaining interpersonal trust from children in street situations. Children's communication patterns in unique street situations also need to be responded to with a more informal approach. The actors involved need to reconsider the type of empowerment shown to children in street situations

    Digital Movement of Opinion Mobilization: SNA Study on #Dirumahaja Vs. #Pakaimasker

    This study examines the role of #PakaiMasker and #DirumahAja hashtags on Twitter on shaping the mobilization of digital opinion support, measuring the effectiveness of the comparison of a network, actors between hashtags, and digital opinions. The theory used was Digital Movement of Opinion by looking at the level of actors and systems. The method used in this research is a mixture combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitatively, this research looks at the communication networks from the sample of 2,000 tweet data: 1000 tweet data #PakaiMasker with 259 actors and 334 and 1000 tweet data #DirumahAja with 359 actors and 283 relationships using netlytic and gephi. Meanwhile, qualitatively, the researchers analyzed text that described and explained social networks. The results showed #DirumahAja was more able creating mobilization compared to #PakaiMasker. The success of the #DirumahAja was due to its extensive network system that able to reach actors using Twitter in giving their opinions regarding health campaigns during Covid-19 pandemic

    Exploring Self Identity: An Analysis of Audience Reception of Vlogs

    This study analyzed the interpretation of the self-identity projected by Tasya Farasha through her YouTube content. The development of youth identity today cannot be separated from the role of social media. In this context, Tasya Farasha’s content was examined from the viewpoint of the audience who watched it. This study uses a reception analysis methodology with focus group discussion as data collection technique. The informants in this study were selected based on criteria and classified based on three different universities in Jakarta. The result showed that the informants perceived the content of Tasya Farasya’s broadcast as a reference for youth in forming self-identity both culturally and persuasively in speech and action. The self-identity that Tasya Farasya projects led to a cosmopolitan identity. An identity that sees human’s equality in a community. This self-identity also shows its resistance to various dogmas that discriminate against differences

    Mental Health Communication in Indonesian Natural Disaster Victims Trauma Recovery

    Trauma healing is a crucial stage in a long tourism sector recovery process after a natural disaster. Post-disaster psychological support is needed to reduce trauma in society, especially for remote communities. However, health services for people affected by health crises due to disaster at the provincial level are inadequate. This study aims to identify mental health communication forms in the trauma recovery process for tsunami victims in Pandeglang, Banten. This research uses the case study method. Approached descriptive-qualitatively, this study describes the practice of mental health communication in the context of trauma healing for natural disaster victims in Indonesian tourist attractions. This study found that mental health communication efforts included psychosocial assistance for children and adults, treatment for people with mental health disorders (ODGJ- orang dengan gangguan jiwa), counseling for victims, home visits, and health services for 26 ODGJs, and home visits for victims without mental disorders

    Pandemic Journalism: A Study of Covid-19 News Coverage on detik.com

    During a pandemic, people need information as a basis for knowledge and policymaking. This study aimed to describe the news about Covid-19 in the online media detik.com. This research used the quantitative content analysis method. The news from 688 articles with a period from 6 January to 9 March 2020 were collected. Disaster communication was used as a framework for understanding pandemic journalism. Pandemic journalism promoted health by presenting information that is ethical and scientifically based. News coverage during pandemics paid attention to vulnerable groups and expedited handling of pandemics. This study showed that news on detik.com is dominated by direct news 35%, health themes 52%, news with prevention dimensions 53%, and 90% news using scientific terms without any explanation. The news detik.com is still working on presenting pandemic journalism
