Konstruksi Berita Layanan Publik Dalam Program "Sumut Dalam Berita" TVRI Sumatera Utara
This research is conducted to determine the construction of public service news in ‘Sumut Dalam Berita’ program aired on TVRI North Sumatera. With the phenomenological approach, this research used Theories of Influences on Mass Media Content by Pamela J. Shoemaker and Stephen D. Reese. This study conducted an in-depth interview with an internal level of TVRI North Sumatera that is managerial level and the external party who cooperate with TVRI that is North Sumatera Provincial Government. The results show that : (1) public service news is being a part of the cooperation between TVRI North Sumatera and the Provincial Government. TVRI also receive funds from local budgets for operations activities, (2) each level of the influence of media content starting from individual level to ideological level contributes to public service news production in ‘Sumut Dalam Berita.’ Sometimes there are overlaping between the ideal and practical concepts experienced by the journalist in delivering public information to the public. The contribution of this research is to give insight to journalists and editors on how to produce news, especially on public services without ignoring news value
Melawan Radikalisme melalui Website
Technology always has two faces. Radicalism found its heaven when the Internet can be used as a media for propaganda and for recruiting new members. On the contrary, the Internet could also be used to counter radicalism. Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Terorisme (BNPT) in collaboration with Pusat Media Damai (PMD) has three websites such as jalandamai.org, damailahindonesiaku.com, dan damai.id to support that mission. Using qualitative content analysis, this research aims to describe the way of these websites are fighting online radicalism. This research found that there are two steps that these websites took to propagate anti radicalism, by sensitizing the spread of radicalism and what kind of actual action that can be done to against it
PARTISIPASI POLITIK PEMILIH PEMULA DALAM BINGKAI JEJARING SOSIAL DI MEDIA SOSIAL
The purpose of this research to identify the social networking of early voters in the social media and its influence toward political participation. Using qualitative approach, the data is primarily collected through focus group discussion and in-depth interview with 63 college students chosen purposively in 3 big cities; Bandung, Jakarta, and Surabaya. Research results show that social media is massively used by the early voters for interacting and communicating because it needs no physical preparation and revelation of their original personality. The network is easily accessed, both on campus and at home, which sustains higher intensity in using social media. While networking socially, the early voters only interact and communicate with old acquaints, thus the networking does not aim for developing a new network. Their participation in politics is considered low, have less understanding about politics, and have not participated yet, both online and offline. Social media has become their primary source of political news and information for discussing with family and peers face-to-face. Discussion result becomes a consideration for their political decision making. The contribution of this research is to give perspectives on political participation of novice voters in social media in order to motivate social media users to become politically literate
Posisi Media Televisi dalam Membangun Nilai-Nilai pada Masyarakat Perbatasan
The presence of television within the border communities of Indonesia-Timor Leste in Napan Village (Timor Tengah Utara District, East Nusa Tenggara Province) has many influences on their daily life. The high penetration of television in their daily life makes them to rely on television both regarding content (TV program) as well as technological (physical) aspects. This research aims to analyze the position of television in building the values in the daily life of the people of Napan Village. Using media ethnography method, this research found that television has a central position in this society. Widespread of Indonesia’s television broadcasting program in the border areas of Indonesia becomes one of the factors that can foster to the national pride of the Napan people. Besides, possessing a television becomes one of important determinants of comfort in household audience. Television for the people of Napan Village also has economic value as a tool to help running their business in the border area in Timor Leste. The high penetration of television has also made television programs as one of the topics in daily conversation. The television schedule has become a community schedule
STRATEGI SOSIALISASI MIGRASI SISTEM PENYIARAN ANALOG KE DIGITAL DI JAWA TENGAH
This research describes the development, analyzing the communications strategy of socialization migration of tv analog to digital in Central Java using descriptive qualitative method. Data collection is done by interviewing 200 informants in four areas namely Semarang, Magelang, Purwokerto, and Pekalongan. Data analysis was undertaken by using analysis phase of strategic communication which includes formative research, strategy, research, and evaluation tactic. The results show a majority of residents Central Java did not know about migration plan of analog to digital tv. It is a challenge to plan a proper communications strategy according to conditions in Central Java so that the migration can run well and make benefit for all parties. Certainty roadmap migrations will ease the preparation of the communications strategy. The contribution of this research is to provide communication strategy of socialization of digital broadcast system in Central Java

KEPERCAYAAN MASYARAKAT TERHADAP INFORMASI TRADISIONAL DAN MODERN PADA PERISTIWA BENCANA ALAM
The purpose of the research is to identify the local people believe in current information or traditional information of the natural disaster of Merapi mountain in Central Java as one of the mostactive volcanoes in the world. Concept use is information and natural disaster. The research uses post-positivist paradigm with the survey, interview, and observation for data gathering regarding the big eruption in 2010. The results show more than half of local people believe in traditional information than modern information regarding the natural disaster. The differences of local people believe are base on the level of education, age and the role in public. Local citizen believes to traditional information mostly are old people their education background from the elementary level, and has no role in public.On the other hand for the local citizen that believe to modern information are young people, from middle-level education and some of them has a role in public.The perception of traditional information occurs since the old people have some experiences of last volcanic eruption, and more listen to the people they closed and less of literation regarding disaster mitigation. The differences of belief to both traditional and modern information are not statistically significant is an opportunity for integrating traditional and modern information for disaster risk reduction. This research contributes to give insight of the difference of traditional and modern information on disaster events
DRAMATURGI PENYANDANG OLIGODAKTILI
The purpose of this research it is analyzing the management of the impression in the stage before it or the stage back displayed in the process of communication at the daily life of social interaction with the surrounding environment for people with oligodactyly in Kampung Ulutaue. This research uses the method interpretative subjective with the approach dramaturgy, involving fifteen informants with ten men and five women were chosen purposively.Researchers are digging experience social interaction informants was conducted using data collected through in-depth interviews and observation participatory with the data supporting based on perspective the act of social and dramaturgy. The results of the study explain people oligodactyly manage the impression upon a stage before or the stage behind with verbal communication and nonverbal displayed social interaction in the process of communication with fellow people oligodactyly, family, the community government agencies, and television treating them by creating inconveniences in exertion to survive, weaken psychology self, marginalisation, traumatic, and self-denial its environment from suffering experienced. The contribution of the study is giving insight about impression management on people with oligodactyly by using dramaturgy perspective
Komunikasi "Penyesuaian Diri Kembali" Pekerja Migran Perempuan yang Kembali ke Daerah Asal
The problems of female migrant workers in foreign countries cannot be separated from the discourse of gender inequality. The social construction of women affects the working condition and employers’ treatment of female migrant workers while they are working abroad. The primary aim of this research is describing the re-entry process of female migrant workers when they return to their home country. The main theories used in this research are the U curve model and the W curve model. This research primarily related to the study of the cultural transition of minority groups (female migrant workers) by employing the phenomenology research method. The research finding shows a model of messaging strategies based on Curve W theory. The result also indicates that the social position of women and the cultural communication experiences of women migrant workers influence their capability in re-adapting. Emotional support from their significant others is essential to help the female migrant workers in going through the various stages of reentry cultural shocked so that they will be able to re-adapt. This study constructs a communication model that can be used as a guide for government agencies and NGOs working in helping female migrant workers who were experiencing reverse cultural shock. The communication models that emerge from this research are linear re-adaptation model, recovery model, and quitting model
Persuasi, Perilaku Merokok, dan Preferensi Anak Muda terhadap Pesan Kampanye Berhenti Merokok
This research attempts to revisit the research on the youth preferences on several quit-smoking Public Service Advertisements (PSA). These preferences are including several factors, such as different form, structure, and content of persuasive messages. The objective of this research is to test the possibility of the linkage between the smoking behaviors and smokers’ preferences on various quit-smoking advertisements, with 104 university students who labeled themselves as smokers took part in the survey. The results show that respondents are mostly heavy smokers and they tend to have both the negative and positive attitudes towards smoking. On the other hand, all respondents have seen at least one quit-smoking PSA. This shows that quit-smoking PSAs are solely not adequately effective to change smoking behaviors. The respondents tend to favor the PSAs with less fear-appeal, more rational messages with statistics, and in the form of audio-visual
