The Use of BBC (Box, Board, and Comics) Media in The Systems of Linear Equation
Mathematics is one of the lessons in school. Starting from elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, even college. Mathematics is abstract and identic with numbers, so the author guessed that maybe this is the reason why students consider that mathematics is a difficult lesson. In fact, the learners deliver the material step by step. First, the teacher introduced something concrete to the students (related to the surrounding environment). After that, teacher introduced something more abstract to the students. Sometimes, the transition from concrete to abstract become the problem in the learning process. One of the materials that convert concrete to abstract is systems of linear equations in 8th grade because in this stage students are introduced to more coefficients and variables. This article will discuss how to use media in the form of BBC (Box, Board, and Comics) on systems of linear equations. This research is about Research and Development (R &D). The procedures of comics followed the ADDIE model which included analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This research aims to create a valid media based on the validation by the and students’ responses which can be proven that BBC (Box, Board, and Comics) media are interesting and worthy to use in the classroom
The impact of natural science contextual teaching through project method to students’ achievement in MTsN Miri Sragen
This study aims to describe the science learning skills among students’ who follow contextual learning through project method with experiment method. The population of this research is the students’ of class VII MTS Negeri Miri Kab. Sragen on the teaching period of 2016/2017. Cluster random sampling technique is used as sample. This research was designed using contextual teaching through project method as an independent variable. The results of this Improvement show that there is a difference in the achievement of students' learning skill that follows contextual learning through the project method with the experimental method with Fobs = 8,83 and significant number 4,04 (p <0,05). Based on these findings contextual learning through the project is one of the learning methods that provide a positive influence on improving the achievement of science learning skills. This ain increase, because CTL is can help students’ understand the material by relating the problems that exist. Project methods are used by students’ in solving problems
Development of Computational-based Visualization Method in Physical Chemistry Practical Course
Study on the development of computational-based visualization method in Physical Chemistry practical course has been carried out. The study was carried out by combining the conventional method and the visualization using the software. This combination class then was compared to the conventional class of the practical course. The cognitive evaluation showed that the distribution of students’ understanding for the supporting theory of the practical course was not significantly different. The students had relatively the same level of understanding regarding the supporting theory. The evaluation of learning outcomes and the distribution of final grade showed that the class which combined the conventional and visualization method gave a positive result in the learning proces
Understanding students' concepts through guided inquiry learning and free modified inquiry on static fluid material
This study provides information on understanding students' concepts in guided inquiry learning groups and in free modified inquiry learning groups. Understanding of student concept is reviewed on the concept of static fluid case. The number of samples tested were 67 students. The sample is divided into 2 groups of students: the group is given guided inquiry learning and the group given the modified free inquiry learning. Understanding the concept of students is measured through 23 tests of items about the concept of static fluid. The result of the students 'understanding of the guide inquiry learning is better than the students' understanding of the concept of free modified inquiry learning
Maintenance and Rehabilitation Prioritization of School Buildings Using Knapsack Problem
Many of the public buildings are in conditions of distress due to deterioration and damage and require maintenance and rehabilitation to be able to function appropriately. On the contrary the government funding and budget allocated is limited. A systematic approach to overcome the problem is using setting up priority and optimize the resources allocation. Within a budget ceiling the what buildings components should be prioritized to achieve maximum profit and or surpass threshold is the ultimate goal of the decision maker and stakeholders. In this study, optimizing budget allocated for maintenance and rehabilitation of building components may be carried out by implementing knapsack algorithm within dynamic programming framework. The public junior high school 4 (SMPN 4) building was chosen as case study to apply the algorithm and determine the priority scale. The building is in Salatiga and suffers from some material deterioration as well as structural component degradation. The school building consists of three main sections namely, building itself, school yard, and school fence. To assess and evaluate damage based on the criteria set by Ministry of National Education, the building is divide into structures, architecture, and utilities. These components were divided into elements and sub elements. The structure was divided into the roof structure, super structure above the ground, and substructure (foundation). The damage condition of components and sub components of the building was then tabulated by assigning weights according to criteria set by office of education of Salatiga (Dinas Pendidikan Kota Salatiga, 2017
Analysis of students' difficulties on the material elasticity and harmonic oscillation in the inquiry-based physics learning in senior high school
The purpose of this research is to analyze of students' difficulties on the material elasticity and harmonic oscillation in the inquiry-based physics learning. It has eight stages. They are the orientation, the problem formulation, the formulation of hypotheses, the data obtaining, the testing hypotheses, conclusions, the implementation of the conclusions and generalizations, and the reflection stage. This research determines the student's learning difficulties on the each stage. The subject of this research is all of the students in X IPA 4 SMA N Sambungmacan Sragen. The amount of this research subject is thirty students. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data acquired with the learning process observation, the student's response questionnaire, and the student's cognitive tests. The results show that the student has difficulty in analyzing the elasticity and the force of deviation, speed, and acceleration concept, illustrates hooke law, and the matter's modulus elasticity. The difficult stages of the inquiry-based physics learning are the problem formulation, the formulation of hypotheses, the data obtaining, the testing hypotheses, conclusions, the implementation of the conclusions and generalizations, and the reflection stage
The effect of Phet Simulation media for physics teacher candidate understanding on photoelectric effect concept
Indonesian new Curriculum for senior high school students required student-centered learning. One of the curriculum implementation constraint was the difficulty of providing learning media. PhET simulations media is one of the options that can help implementation of new curriculum on learning. However, the use of this media in Indonesia still needs to be studied comprehensively. The learning was conducted on students of physics education Study Program in sebelas maret university in 2013. The sample consisted of 62 students that was taking quantum physics course. The method that was used in the research was descriptive qualitative. The method that was used in learning was demonstration’s method that used PhET media and accompanied by a question and answer and groups discussion. The data was collected using multiple choice test and interview through email. We found that any students still did not understand about photoelectric effect concept. They were confused when asked about the thick material and cross section of the targets as related with the regardless of electrons in the photoelectric effect event. Other than that, the concept of the waves as a particle and its relation with the kinetic energy of the electrons was not understood by most students
