Background: Dental radiographic examination is one of the most frequent radiological examinations carried out. X-rays in dental radiography is a shortwave electromagnetic rays that cause ionization reaction to any biological material in its path. The purpose of this article is to give an overview of stochastic effects in general as well as to pregnant women and fetuses in particular.Discussion: Ionizing radiation, such as X-ray radiation, is potentially teratogenic. Safe dose has not been well defined, although there has been approved dosing limits. Gestational age most vulnerable is the end of week 2 to A weeks post-conception. If the much needed radiographs of a woman who is pregnant, then the X-ray exposure will be directed mostly to the head and neck area.Conc/usion: Therefore, the application of the principle of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) as well as good protection, including instrument control, protection of the room, the cumulative exposure dose control, and the use of apron throughout the process, is noteworthy. Such protection, especially for pregnant women and fetuses

Background: Chronic periodontitis occurred mostly in productive ages. Chronic periodontitis was started by adherence and accumulation of plaque bacteria that caused vascular enhancement, PMN infiltration, and periodontal tissue destruction. This process caused bone calcium solubitily which went trough blood stream and excreted to gungiva sulci. Calcium in periodontal tissue could be found both in extracellular and intracellular matrix.Purpose: Purpose of this study was to know calcium level in gingival crevicular fluid of chronic periodontitis and compare calcium level in chronic periodontitis and gingivitis.Method: This study was analytic observational with cross sectional approach and got admission from ethic comission of Dental Faculty, Gadjah Mada University. The subjects were patients who came to dental hospital of Jember University. The subjects had to full fill informed consent. The subjects were selected according inclusion and exclusion criteria. Subjects  complying inclusion criteria were divided into gingivitis group (PI score 0 - 0.7) and chronic periodontitis (PI score 1 - 8.0). Gingival crevicular fluid samples were collected from teeth which got gingivitis and chronic periodontitis, GCF was absorbed using paperpoint and stored inside eppendorf tube. Paperpoint was added with 50 µL 0.02 M PBS pH 7.4 and 100 µL distilled water. Calcium level was measured by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Result: The result showed there was calcium in gingival crevicular fluid of chronic periodontitis. Mean of calcium level of chronic periodontitis was higher than  gingivitis. Conclusion: This study concluded there was calcium in gingival crevicular fluid of chronic periodontitis and calcium level of chronic periodontitis was higher than gingivitis

Background: Obesity and periodontal diseases are two highly prevalent chronic conditions in Indonesia. Both obesity and periodontitis have been recognized as a major risk factor for a number of systemic diseases. Obesity related to the etiology and progression of periodontal disease was well known, but a recent study describes the role of periodontitis to obesity.Purpose: The aim of this article to explain possible bidirectional relationship of periodontitis and obesity, so that dental practitioners may play an important role in management both obesity and periodontal disease.Literature review: The concept of infectobesity refers to obesity of infectious origin was accepted for the possible role of oral bacteria in the development of obesity. Excessive storage of adipose tissue in obese individuals leads to the release of adipokines which produce inflammatory. Relentless release of pro-inflammatory cytokines into the systemic circulation from adipose tissue in obese individuals and periodontal bacteria and its product provides a systemic inflammatory overload and may be a reservoir for bidirectional relationship of periodontitis and obesity. Maintaining good oral health is also fundamental for obese individuals. Dental practitioners should play important role in managements by educate their obese patients and refer the patient to physician and dietitian for a proper maintaining obesity.Conc1usion: There is a bidirectional relationship between obesity ang periodontal disease
