Speech Function and Process in Fake News
This paper deals with speech function and process found in the fake news in social media Twitter. The data used in this research are 66 clauses in the tweets about political sessions updated by the Twitter account @makLambeTurah and analysed qualitatively by applying Systemic Functional Linguistics theory. The result of the analysis shows that the most dominant speech function found in the fake news in the social media is the “statement†with relational process as the highest appearance. It means that the fake news writer, as the support team of the candidate, uses “statement†in sharing ideas, information, and issues to the readers and expects the readers to receive them, and also persuades the readers to believe and change their mind. The result also reveals that such speech function and process happen due to the relational status between the fake news writer and the candidates (politicians) he supports, that is PDIP, and the context of situation, that is in the Regional Election 2018
Can Alumnus of English Learner Remember Their English? A Case Study on Fldi Nurul Jadid
This research attempts to explain a phenomenon that occurs psycholinguistics in everyday life, especially in the environment of English learner. The basic assumption is the English learner faces difficulties in producing English sentence orally, so that problems such as forgetting the language in producing the language could happen. The research will involve alumnus of English learners of English Language Institute LPBA Nurul Jadid domiciled in Jember. From the observations, there are approximately 86.7% of respondents admitted that they often run into problems in the production of English as second language. There are 60% of respondents admitted that they had experienced of forgetfulness in the production of English as second language in the level of the sentence. 80% in the level of words, 78.6% in the level of expression, and 71.4% in the level of the phrase. This study shows that forgetfulness in producing English has a neural factor that is the Short term Memory (STM) of the alumnus. They have difficulty in recalling the vocabularies in English
Lexicons Per-tuak-an on Mambal Village Community of Badung Bali Regency in Ecolinguistic Perspective
This research aims is to find out the interpersonal relations in the tuak lexicon and the dimension of social praxis that is owned by the tuak lexicon. The data of this research are oral data and written data as supporting data. The data collection method are observation and interviews with recording techniques and documentation techniques. The results of this research are the existence of interpersonal relations in the tuak lexicon based on naming, materials used and coloring whereas the dimensions of social praxis that form tuak are sociological, ideological and biological dimensions that arouse human ecological nature for conservation efforts. This encourages the government to preserve palm wine by introducing them to foreign tourists so that it can improve people's lives. The more familiar the palm wine among the community, it will increase the interaction between one community and another so that it will indirectly preserve the palm wine lexicon itself
Semantic Roles of The Verb “To See†in Javenese of Kertosono
This study reveals the semantic fields from the "to see" verb in Javanese. The aims of this research is to describe the shape, function, meaning and role of semantic of each variant of the verb "to see". To realize this goal, qualitative research design was applied in this study and the semantic role theory of Vole and Van Valin (1984). Was also oriented in data analysis. Verbs that have semantic fields that are associated with the "to see" verb with intentional entities numbering 33. Each of them is ndêlok, ndêlêng, ningali, mirsani, ndeleng sacleraman, ndêlêng tênanên, ningali saestu, mirsani saestu, ningali sekedhap, mirsani sekedhap, mlengos, ngwasi, ngêmatake, ngematakên, ndhangak, dingkluk, nginceng, ngêlirêk, mêntêlêngi, ndelok mburi, and maca. The semantic roles of the arguments of each verb consist of agents and themes. This study only sheds light on the meaning field verb "to see" of the type of variant and a little about the general semantic role. For this reason, a more detailed study of the specific role of each variant of the verb is a topic that can be raised in the next study
Function and Meaning of Penebel Society’s Prohibition
This research is of two objectives, which are to examine the functions of Penebel Community’s expressions of prohibition and to reveal the meanings of the expressions. This research was conducted using qualitative research design. Data were collected by visiting the farmers’ habitats, observing their activities while recording using voice memo app in gadget, and conducting interviews to confirm the researchers’ understanding of the recorded messages. Results showed that the functions of Penebel inhabitants’ expressions of prohibition are informational and directives. Meanwhile the meanings of the expressions are both explicit and implied. The explicit meaning refers to the lexical meanings of the words that form it, which can be seen in the dictionary. The implied meaning is found based on the context of its use. Instead of containing illogical meanings and are considered to be out of date with the times, these phrases of prohibition needs to be preserved by providing their comprehensible meanings to the younger generation for they are a part of living culture and language
Diagnostic Assessment to Analyse Learning Style of Students of Travel Business Management Program in Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali
To understand the learning style of the learners is important and useful to decide what learning strategy is the most suitable to be implemented. Considering that significance, this study aims at analysing learning style of students of Travel Business Management, Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali (Bali Tourism Institute). The data was collected through questionaire in which the contentc is the adaptation of VARK questionaire which was developed by Flemming (1993, in Pritchard, 2009). Data was analysed quantitatively through tabulation and then described qualitatively. As the result, the students are found to have different learning styles, namely 6 students (20,69%) are aural, 5 students (17,24%) have read/write learning style, 15 students (51,72%) are kinaesthetic, and 1 students to each has bimodal kinaesthetic Read/write-kinaesthetic, bimodal aural-kinaesthetic, and trimodal visual-aural-read/write. Based on the result, it can be proposed a recommendation to the teacher that the strategies of teaching have to facilitate all the learning styles own by the students to make them able to learn at their best
Translation of Children’s Picture Book
Children’s story books serve not only as a medium of verbal communication but also as that of non-verbal one. Messages conveyed through children’s story books will not be attracting to children if not accompanied by their non-verbal forms, such as pictures and symbols. Therefore every story book should be able to influence the child psychologically through pictures or symbols. This in turn affects the process of translating children’s storybook texts, including in determining translation techniques. This study examines the technique of translating Balinese children’s story books from English into Indonesian. This study was conducted with a qualitative research design. The results of the study show that the translation of Balinese children’s textbooks is mostly done literally using simple language. The writing children’s story books emphasizes the presentation of non-verbal forms of communication to foster and maintain their interest in reading. The writing and translation of children’s story texts is based on consideration of their psychological aspects so that the translator avoids the use of complicated words
Language Learning and Learner Psychology: Building Autonomy in Multilingual Culture
The notion of autonomous learning used in second language learning has become a focal point of scholars in recent years. However, building an autonomy in specific language learners might be different in the view of psychology within multilingual culture which raised interesting issues. However, learners’ psychology determines about how far they must learn the second language. In addition, the multilingual culture has important role as variable but in an abstract way. It appears that in some languages learners who had multilingual culture backgrounds have different situation in comprehending the English, which also affect in choosing suitable learning strategies to comprehend by their own. Therefore, this research addresses to find out the interrelation in case of building leaner autonomy on English as second language learning in the aspect of multilingual culture in Indonesia. Trough library research, the author found the correlation between learners’ psychological condition such as interest, needs and motivation has some impact on how successful in their own language learning within the multilingual culture as it background. Therefore, building autonomy in second language learning must be aware of multilingual and social culture in society to reap a good result
Politeness Strategy Used in 10th Grade Students’ Anecdote Text
This research was aimed to find out the types of politeness strategy that is used by 10th grade students to express criticism towards public issues through an anecdote text as well as the implication on the teaching and learning process of anecdote text in SMK TI Bali Global Jimbaran. There were fifteen anecdote texts analyzed in this research and they were collected through a writing test conducted in a 10th grade class in SMK TI Bali Global Jimbaran. The data were classified and analyzed based on the politeness strategy theory proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) and ethnography of communication theory proposed by Hymes (1973). The result of the analysis shows that from the fifteen anecdote texts collected, there were only two types of politeness strategy found to be used in expressing criticism, they are bald on record strategy and off record strategy. There are ten anecdote texts composed by the students found using bald on record strategy, while the other five anecdotes using off record strategy in expressing criticism towards public issues. In other words, more students still used the more risky way of expressing criticisms, therefore it is important for the teacher to choose or design a better model of learning which can improve the students’ pragmatic competence
Values of Life in Mitch Albom’s “Tuesday With Morrieâ€
The title of this research is Values of Life in Mitch Albom’s Tuesday With Morrie. This research focuses on analyzing the types of values which are found in novel Tuesday With Morrie. This study aims to analyze the types of value of live on the novel Tuesday With Morrie and describe its implementation in human’s life. There are four methods of research used in this paper, they are: finding data resource, collecting and clasifying the data, analyzing the data, and the last is presenting the result of the analysis. All of the data used in the research are taken from Albom’s Tuesday With Morrie. The result of the analysis showed that in general there are two kinds of value found, they are entertainment value and educational value. Based on the educational value, there are three values found, such as society and civilizations value, moral – ethic – religion value, and practical value. The result of the study also showed that all of the all datacan be implemented in daily human’s life
