Analysis Type of Theme in the Introduction Sections of English Study Program Students Research Proposals Mahasaraswati Denpasar
The study concentrates mainly on the various themes and rheme styles used in the introduction section of students' research proposals for the English study program at Mahasaraswati Denpasar. The study's objective is to look at the variety of themes and rhemes used in introduction paragraphs. The study used a qualitative method with a descriptive design to analyze the data. The information was taken from five research proposals from students who are studying English. Halliday's (1994, 2004) theory was applied to the data in order to analyze the theme and rheme. In five introduction sections of research proposals for English study programs, the most prevalent type appeared 36 times. Factors of Language Shift in Gayonese at Southeast Aceh Regency
Language is an important marker of ethnic identity. It refers to language shift happens when a group of speakers utilizes a language from a broader society, such as a majority or national language, less frequently or stops speaking their mother tongue or a minority language.This study aims to find out the factors influence language shift of children in Jambur Damar village Southeast Aceh Regency. The Gayo dialect, the native tongue of Jambur Damar village in Southeast Aceh Regency. This study applied descriptive qualitative research method. The study subject were ten children of Jambur Damar village Southeast Aceh Regency. Furthermore, observation, interview and documentation were employed in collecting the data. After collecting the data, it was analyzed by the following stages, collecting, classifying, analyzing, and deciding. The findings showed that the two factors found that influence language shift from Gayonese to Indonesian namely internal factors and external factors. Internal factors are parents/family and intermarriage. Meanwhile, external factors are education/school and bilingualism. The most dominant one is intermarriage factors that influence language shift of children in Jambur Damar village Southeast Aceh Regency
Expressive Speech Acts in the Kpu.Ri Instagram Comments
This research delves into the multitude of expressive speech acts evident in the Instagram comment section of the KPU Statement concerning the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidate Debate during the 2024 Election, particularly on the official KPU_RI Instagram account. It aims to address the prevalence and nature of these speech acts within the @KPU_RI Instagram comments. Employing a qualitative approach with content analysis methods, this study explores and elaborates on expressive speech acts in response to the KPU_RI Instagram post titled "KPU's Statement Regarding the 2024 Election Debate and Vice Presidential Candidates". Data collection involves extracting comments from KPU statement uploads on the KPU_RI Instagram account containing expressive speech acts, utilizing documentation, listening, and note-taking techniques. Analysis entails coding, data classification to identify relationships, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal 199 instances of expressive speech acts, including praise, congratulations, criticism, gratitude, blame, and condolences. Notably, criticism emerges as the dominant form, reflecting public dissatisfaction or disagreement with KPU's decisions or policies regarding the 2024 Presidential and Vice-Presidential Election debate. These insights shed light on the dynamics of expressive speech acts in online discourse surrounding electoral processes
Never Give Up Attitude in the Novel of Negeri 5 Menara as A Reinforcement of the Pancasila Student Profile
This qualitative study explores the depiction of the "never give up" attitude in Ahmad Fuadi's novel "Negeri 5 Menara," focusing on its role in reinforcing the Pancasila student profile. Utilizing a methodological framework grounded in theoretical sources, the research conducts an in-depth investigation employing literature review, analysis, and presentation techniques. Data collection methods include library research and meticulous note-taking, with a structured strategy centered on focused inquiry and single case studies. Semiotic analysis is employed to uncover layers of meaning within the text, with data validation conducted through theoretical triangulation. The findings highlight the portrayal of the never give up attitude as the characters' relentless pursuit of success, influenced by their experiences at Pesantren Madani. Key principles shaping this attitude are identified, including "man jadda wajada" (Whoever strives will succeed) and "I’timadu alÄ nafsik" (Stand on your own feet). In conclusion, the study emphasizes the significance of the never-give-up attitude in fortifying the Pancasila student profile, fostering resilience and determination. It underscores the intricate interplay between literary portrayal and societal values, offering insights for educators and scholars
An Analysis of Inflectional and Derivational Affixes of the Students’ Academic Writing
This study investigates the use of inflectional and derivational affixes in the academic writing of second–year English students, identifying the challenges they face in applying these linguistic elements. Using qualitative methods, specifically content analysis, this study examined a sample of 30 students' writings from the 2021C class. The analysis identified a total of 172 affixes: 122 inflectional suffixes, 36 derivational suffixes, and 14 derivational prefixes. Inflectional suffixes, particularly irregular forms, were predominantly used, while derivational affixes primarily served to change grammatical classes, with "–ly" being the most common. Students encountered several challenges, such as errors in inflectional suffix usage (e.g., omission of plural markers and subject–verb agreement issues) and difficulties with derivational affixes (e.g., omissions and incorrect usage of "–ing," "–ment," "–able," "–re," "–un"). These problems were attributed to confusion between bound and free morphemes, forgetfulness, and a lack of awareness. The study recommends tailored teaching strategies, including targeted exercises, detailed explanations, and ample practice opportunities, to improve students' proficiency with affixes, thereby enhancing the quality and clarity of their academic writin
The Influence of Technology on the Development of Indonesian Language among Youth: A Case Study of Language Use in Short Messages and Social Media
This study aims to determine the influence of social media use on Indonesian language development among adolescents, the influence of the use of short message platforms on Indonesian language development among adolescents. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The object of the study is the use of Indonesian by adolescents in text messages and social media. The subjects of this study are adolescents in Indonesia aged 13-19 years. The data collection technique is observation and document collection. The instruments used are (use of language, communication norms and ethics, language structure, social interaction, attitudes and language habits). The results of this study show that the use of Indonesian is more frequent, both orally and in writing. Positive Influence is Increasing the Frequency of Indonesian Speaking, Short message platforms allow teenagers to communicate with many people from various regions in Indonesia. Enriching the Vocabulary, the short messaging platform is colored with various slang, abbreviations, and new terms created by its users. Negative Influences, namely Decline in Language Quality, Use of slang, abbreviations, and new terms that are not standard on short message platforms can reduce the quality of the Indonesian language. Spelling and Grammar Mistakes, Because typing on short messaging platforms is usually done quickly, many teens make spelling and grammar mistakes. This can interfere with adolescents' activities and learning
A Grammatical Cohesion Analysis in the News Discourse: A Case of Russia-Ukraine War
This paper examines how the use of grammatical cohesion contributes to the coherent of the news discourse in The Jakarta Post reporting on the war between Russia and Ukraine. It identifies and analyzes grammatical cohesion, specifically reference, substitution, and ellipsis, which exist in the news text to bring coherence in the news text. The results revealed the most dominant type of references applied in the text were anaphoric references, and these references are very important to ensure the integrity and readability of the text. The study therefore reveals a lack of substitution because there is the need for precision in war reporting. The insights gained contribute to a deeper understanding of how linguistic devices are employed in the media to build cohesive and coherent narratives, offering valuable implications for both discourse analysis and English language education
The Challenge of Mastering Arabic Language and Its Relation to the Ability to Read Kitab Kuning among Students in Tapal Kuda Islamic Boarding School
Arabic language (AL) proficiency is a crucial element in understanding classical Islamic texts, or Kitab Kuning (KK), and plays a central role in the curriculum of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). However, students often face difficulties mastering Arabic due to its complex grammar and vocabulary. This study aims to identify the challenges faced in mastering Arabic and the relationship between Arabic proficiency and the ability to read KK among students, particularly in Pesantren in Tapal Kuda region. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected from members of pesantren families in Tapal Kuda region, including Kyai, Nyai, Ning, Lora, pesantren administrators, as well as teachers (Ustadz and Ustadzah) and students. Data collection was carried out through observation and conversation methods with recording and note-taking techniques, as well as reflective introspective methods. Interviews were conducted to explore factors influencing Arabic proficiency and its impact on the ability to read KK. The collected data were analyzed through reduction, classification, verification, tabulation, and interpretation. The study's findings indicate that: 1) Arabic serves as an academic identity of pesantren; 2) Arabic is a central medium in KK; 3) Issues related to Arabic proficiency in the context of KK. Besides, the research findings include several factors and recommendations, namely; 1) factors impeding Arabic mastery include limited access to adequate educational resources, ineffective teaching methods, and variations in students' educational backgrounds; and 2) the findings suggest that the ability to read KK is significantly affected by the level of Arabic proficiency, particularly in aspects of grammar and vocabulary understanding. This study is expected to contribute to the development of more effective Arabic teaching strategies in pesantren and improve students' abilities to read and comprehend KK
Verbal Humor in the Online Comic "Ukik_Rm"
The aim of this research are (1) describing the knowledge recources that build verbal humor in online comics ukik_rm and (2) classifying the types of verbal humor that exist in online comics ukik_rm. To achieve the objectives of this study, Semantics Script Theory of Humor (SSTH), General Theory of Verbal Humor (GTVH), and 12 types of verbal humor Shade were used. This research data is humorous text in online comics ukik_rm. The comics are taken from the official Instagram account of ukik_rm online comics (ukik_rm). This research applied qualitative-descriptive approach. The note-taking method is used in collecting data. in analyzing the data used the data analysis method of Miles and Huberman.The results of this study show that every knowledge resource that exists and builds verbal humor of online comics ukik_rm has a decisive and important role for the humor of verbal humor of online comics ukik_rm. Script opposition that is often found in the verbal humor of online comics ukik_rm is the opposition between two scripts that come from things close to Indonesian society. For logical mechanisms, "faulty reasoning" is a type of LM that is often used. Situations that are often used are situations that are based on everyday life. The target of verbal humor is imposed on a group or an individual. The narrative strategy is a strip comic. The language consistently uses set up and punch line techniques. Development of an Indonesian Language Learning Video for Grade VIII of Junior High School Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli Utara
Finding a workable, practical, and successful way to create instructional films for the Indonesian language at SMP Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli Utara based on persuasive text writing content is the goal of this research. Research and development encompasses this sort of study. The five-stage ADDIE paradigm is used for development; they are as follows: analysis, design, development, implementation (or execution), and evaluation. The Indonesian language learning film went through a rigorous testing process that included three separate groups of specialists (materialists, linguists, and design experts) and was piloted in eighth grade at SMP Negeri 2 Gunungsitoli Utara. Researchers found that material expert validators gave the video a 92% validity rating at revision II, language expert validators gave it a 100% validity rating, and design expert validators gave it a 95% feasibility rating, all in relation to the persuasive text writing material taught at SMP Negeri 2 Gunugsitoli Utara. The field test had a very practical category score of 96% and a small group test score of 93% for the learning video's practicality. With a classical completion percentage of 95%, the learning film has also been evaluated and shown to be quite successful. This study's findings suggest that the ADDIE-based instructional video for the Indonesian language at SMP Negeri 2 Gunugsitoli Utara has fulfilled all criteria and is ready for usage
