Il controllo e la validazione dei metadati nel repository istituzionale dell'INFN
<p>Saranno presentate le recenti attività svolte nell’ambito della collaborazione tra Gruppo di lavoro Open Science, CNAF e gruppo DMP (Data Management Plan) dell’INFN in vista della migrazione del repository istituzionale dell’INFN Open Access Repository (OAR) a InvenioRDM (CERN). Focus dell’intervento sarà la customizzazione dei metadati, mediante l’implementazione di metadati specifici, identificando schemi di metadati già strutturati, vocabolari controllati e schemi di classificazione nell’ambito della Fisica. Saranno quindi esaminate le soluzioni identificate e quelle adottate nella customizzazione dei metadati in Open Access Repository, per rispondere alle esigenze dell’utenza di riferimento e dell’ente.</p>

However, the data cubes steaming from such analysis often pose a challenge in their interpretation, due to the intrinsic difficulty in discerning the relevant information from the spectra composing the data cube.<br>\nFurthermore, the huge dimensionality of data cube spectra poses a complex task in its statistical interpretation; nevertheless, this complexity contains a massive amount of statistical information that can be exploited in an unsupervised manner to outiline some essential properties of the case study at hand, e.g.~it is possible to obtain an image segmentation via (deep) clustering of data-cube's spectra, performed in a suitably defined low-dimensional embedding space.<br>\nTo tackle this topic, we explore the possibility of applying unsupervised clustering methods in encoded space, i.e.~perform deep clustering on the spectral properties of datacube pixels. A statistical dimensional reduction is performed by an ad hoc trained AutoEncoder, in charge of mapping spectra into lower dimensional metric spaces, while the clustering process is performed by an iterative K-Means clustering algorithm.<br>\nWe apply this technique on two different use cases, of different physical origin: a set of MA-XRF data on pictorial artworks, and a synthetic dataset of simualted astrophysical observations.</p>\n</blockquote>
Antonio Stoppani: the founder of Italian geology on the bicentenary of his birth.
<p>Antonio Stoppani (1824-1891), since his young age, was captivated by nature, particularly rocks and minerals. Professor of Latin grammar at the seminary of Seveso (Milan, Italy), he soon resumed his interests in geology and natural sciences.</p>
<p>Stoppani curated a valuable palaeontological collection and published the first geological description of Lombardy. After the Italian Unification in 1861, he played a vital role in modernizing the Kingdom of Italy and resumed his teaching activity as Professor of Geology at Pavia University (1861) and then at the “Istituto Tecnico Superiore” of Milan. While his extensive body of work is commendable, Stoppani's most renowned publication is “Il Bel Paese” (Il Bel Paese: conversations on the natural beauty, geology, and physical geography of Italy, 1876).</p>
<p>He integrated his initial studies in religious philosophy, delving into the relationship between science and faith, which culminated in the publication of his seminal essay "Dogma and the Positive Sciences". His final work, “New essay of an exegesis of the history of creation according to reason and faith”, encapsulated the culmination of his lifelong research.</p>
<p>Stoppani’s legacy is not only defined by his groundbreaking contributions to Italy's geological and palaeontological knowledge but also by his civic perseverance and efforts towards constructing a modern society.</p>

Optimizing Vaccination Strategies against African Swine Fever Using Spatial Data fromWild Boars in Lithuania
<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> African swine fever (ASF) is one of the most severe suid diseases, impacting the pig industry and wild suid populations. Once an ASF vaccine is available, identifying a sufficient density of vaccination fields will be crucial to achieve eradication success. In 2020–2023, we live-trapped and monitored 27 wild boars in different areas of Lithuania, in which the wild boars were fed at artificial stations. We built a simulation study to estimate the probability of a successful ASF vaccination as a function of different eco-epidemiological factors. The average 32-day home range size across all individuals was 16.2 km2 (SD = 16.9). The wild boars made frequent visits of short durations to the feeding sites rather than long visits interposed by long periods of absence. A feeding site density of 0.5/km2 corresponded to an expected vaccination rate of only 20%. The vaccination probability increased to about 75% when the feeding site density was 1.0/km2. Our results suggest that at least one vaccination field/km2 should be used when planning an ASF vaccination campaign to ensure that everyone in the population has at least 5–10 vaccination sites available inside the home range.<br>\nSimilar studies should be conducted in the other ecological contexts in which ASF is present today or will be present in the future, with the objective being to estimate a context-specific relationship between wild boar movement patterns and an optimal vaccination strategy.</p>

Phenomenology of DSR-relativistic in-vacuo dispersion in FLRW spacetime
Studies of in-vacuo dispersion are the most active area of quantum-gravity phenomenology.The way in which in-vacuo dispersion produces redshift-dependent corrections to the time of flight of astrophysics particles depends on the model-dependent interplay between Planck-scale effects and spacetime curvature/expansion, and we here derive the most general formula for the leading order redshift-dependent correction to the time of flight for the scenario in which relativistic symmetries are deformed at the Planck scale (DSR) for the constant-curvature case.We find that, contrary to the broken symmetries scenario (LIV), where in principle any arbitrary form of redshift dependence could be allowed, for the DSR scenario only linear combinations of three possible forms of redshift dependence are allowed.We also derive a generalization of our results to the FRW case, anddiscuss some specific combinations of the three forms of redshift dependencewhose investigation might deserve priority from the quantum-gravity perspective
