    Erdőtelepítési potenciál becslése termőhelyi adatbázisok alapján

    A Kaán Károly országfásítási program keretében vizsgáltuk meg az erdőtelepítési potenciál változását hazánkban. A vizsgálatok során két klímaváltozási forgatókönyvet vettünk alapul, az RCP 4.5 és az RCP 8.5 kibocsátási előrejelzésekre alapozva. Azt határoztuk meg, hogy a gyenge minőségű szántók, a gyep-legelő, illetve a jó minőségű, de meredek szántók esetében körülbelül mekkora területek lehetnének erdősíthetők a jövőben és hogyan változik ez a lehetőség az időben. Tartósan erdősíthető területeknek azokat tekintettük, amelyek erdőtalajon találhatók, és/vagy a faállományok számára elérhető többlet vízellátással rendelkeznek, valamint a becsült fatermesztési potenciáljuk eléri legalább a IV. fatermési osztályt. Az eredmények azt mutatták, hogy jelenleg kb. 456 ezer ha erdősítésre alkalmas terület lehet a gyenge minőségű szántóterületek között, viszont ebből csak 123 ezer ha található erdőtalajokon. A gyep, ill. legelőterületekkel kiegészítve, hasonló feltételek mellett ez a szám 262 ezer ha-ra emelkedhet. A klímaváltozás hatására azonban – az egyes forgatókönyvek függvényében a vizsgált földhasználati kategóriákban – 30 évente minimum kb. 10%-kal csökken az erdősítésre alkalmas területek aránya. Ezen felül a természetvédelmi szempontok érvényesítése további területcsökkenéssel jár

    Improving sustainability of mortar by wood-ash and Nano-SiO2

    Cement production charges the environment with CO2 pollution and exhausts natural stocks of limestone and clay. Cement was partially replaced with Wood Ash (WA), and nano-SiO2 (NS) was added to balance the strength loss. Mortar specimens were prepared by replacing the cement with WA up to 20 %, 30 %, 40 %, and 50 %, using constant-flow mortar. The flexural and compressive strength results indicated that although adding 40 % of WA reduced the mortar's strength, it still remained in an acceptable zone (higher than 20 MPa). The addition of 2.5 % NS recovered the strength loss caused by replacing cement with 40 % WA

    Tournament rituals and experiential competence development in higher education: A case of a unique conference series

    The Hungarian Student Research Society (HSRS) movement is a unique, experience-based tournament ritual promoting student-centered learning via instructors working as facilitators. Within the framework of this 70-year-old conference series, students conduct mentor-supported research activities on self-chosen topics, prepare academic papers, and present their research work to peers and expert juries within their institutions. The best research is included in the National Student Research Conference (NSRC), organized by discipline. The present study reviews and analyzes this process from the perspective of tournament rituals, skill development, and student experience. The study utilizes student opinions, perceptions, and feedback from a Student Research Conference in Economics to illustrate the method's effectiveness. Findings suggest that such conference event series – which function as tournaments, professional conferences, and festivals via community events – effectively develop the soft skills that are becoming increasingly important in the 21st century.     Fostering environmental and resources management in Sudan through geo-information systems: A prospective approach for sustainability

    Environmental and land resource degradation is a serious problem that poses significant challenges in Sudan and worldwide generally. Despite the fact that the physical environment components are the underlying economic resources and production assets in developing countries like Sudan, and they directly affect the nation’s socioeconomic aspects of income, health, water availability, food security, and many others. The interventions and protective measures were insufficient to meet the magnitude and extent of the ongoing degradation and resource wastage. Based on the analysis of the indicators and trends of the environmental and natural resources management ‘status quo’, this paper is an attempt to overview and investigate the state of environmental and natural resources management and governance in Sudan. Further discussion delves into the utilization of geo-information systems in Sudan’s environmental and resource management by analyzing and reviewing “some previous case studies” where GIS approaches and techniques were deployed. The paper further strives to explore and highlight the opportunities and potential contributions of GIS in the context of Sudan’s environmental and resource management. Lessons learned from the previous experiences were considered, and the recommendations for the future use of a tailored geo-information system in Sudan context were highlighted and suggested to support better practices and sustainability insights for environmental governance and resources management
