A CONCEPTUAL TOOL FOR ASSESSING CLIENT PERFORMANCE IN THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT COALITION
Due to the significant impact of client performance on overall project performance and the interdependence of participant%5C%27s performance in the construction project coalition %28i.e. clients%2C designers and constructors%29%2C there is a need to establish client performance measures. Based on data collected from in-depth interviews with nineteen UK architects and nine UK contractors%2C a generic tool for the on-going formal assessment of client performance is presented. It was found that this approach to performance assessment %28i.e. from the view point of other%2C non-client coalition participants%29 should lead to improved project relationships. Data analysis showed that in addition to %5C%27harder%5C%27 measures such as understanding of project requirements and finance%2C other%2C %5C%27softer%5C%27 measures of client performance %28e.g. attitude%29 were worthy of consideration since they determine the quality of participant relationships. It is recommended that the tool be used to promote more effective client performance and thus enhance coalition relationships%2C enabling continuous improvement. The ultimate aim is to develop similar tools for the assessment of all coalition participants based on a culture of openness and trust. PEMODELAN PONDASI DANGKAL DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN TIGA LAPIS GEOTEKSTIL DI ATAS TANAH LIAT LUNAK
It was common practice to apply a layer of ''sirtu'' (sandy gravel) beneath the shallow foundations of
buildings on soft subsoil. Though the bearing capacity is increased, it is usually limited to anticipate
future consolidation settlements which might be detrimental. This could be overcome by reinforcing
the ''sirtu'' layer with geotextiles.
To study the effect of geotextile reinforcement, a laboratory foundation model was constructed on a
soft soil deposit. The model measured 5x5x2cm³. The bearing capacity of this model was compared
with the bearing capacity of the model on ''sirtu'' layer, and geotextile reinforced ''sirtu''. Geotextile
reinforcement was laid in one, two and three layers.
Based on the bearing capacity tests, it is concluded that with one geotextile layer the strength was
increased 182,6% higher than soft soil, with two geotextile layers the strength increased 197,8% higher
than soft soil and with three geotextile layer the strength increased 241,3% higher than soft soil.

Bangunan di atas tanah yang lunak sering menggunakan lapisan sirtu di bawah pondasi
dangkalnya. Cara ini dapat meningkatkan daya dukung pondasi namun daya dukung ini masih
harus dibatasi untuk menghindari kemungkinan penurunan jangka panjang yang merugikan.
Penurunan lapisan sirtu sendiri dapat ditanggulangi dengan memasang perkuatan berupa lapisanlapisan
geotekstil di dalamnya.
Sebuah model dibuat di laboratorium untuk mempelajari efektifitas lapisan-lapisan geotekstil ini
terhadap peningkatan daya dukung. Model pondasi berukuran 5x5x2cm³. Daya dukung model ini,
langsung di atas tanah lunak, dibandingkan dengan daya dukung model pondasi yang terletak pada
lapisan sirtu dan lapisan sirtu yang diperkuat geotekstil. Lapisan sirtu diperkuat dengan satu, dua
sampai tiga lapis geotekstil.
Hasil percobaan menunjukkan dengan satu lapis geotekstil kekuatan meningkat sebesar 182,6%
dibanding tanah lunak, dengan dua lapis geotekstil kekuatan meningkat 197,8% dibanding tanah
lunak dan dengan tiga lapis geotekstil kekuatan meningkat 241,3% dibanding tanah lunak
DESIGN COORDINATION IN DISTRIBUTED ENVIRONMENTS USING VIRTUAL REALITY SYSTEMS
This paper presents a research project, which investigates the use of virtual reality and computer communication technology to facilitate building design coordination in distributed environments. The emphasis of the system, called VR-based DEsign COordination (VRDECO) is providing a communication tool that can be used by remote designers for settling ideas before they fully engage in concurrent engineering environments. VRDECO provides the necessary design tools, library of building elements and communication procedures, for designers from remote places to perform and coordinate their initial tasks. It has been implemented using available commercial software packages, and is used in designing a simple house.
VRDECO facilitates the creation a preliminary design and simple communication with the client. There are, however, some difficulties in the development of the full version of VRDECO, i.e.: creating an adequate number of building elements, building specification database with a sufficient number of choices, and establishing a systematic rule to determine the parts of a building that are updateable
INNOVATION IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
In this paper%2C existing innovation models are reviewed. The influence of technology and market-driven schools of thought on the creation and diffusion of innovation is examined. Incremental vs. radical models and autonomous vs. systemic models are considered in the context of the construction industry. The concept of %93technology adoption life cycle%94 is investigated to understand better the acceptance of new technology by key parties. A new model of innovation is proposed. In this model%2C the transformation process of invention into adoption flows through a cyclical mechanism encompassing six phases%3A 1%29 need%2C 2%29 creation%2C 3%29 invention%2C 4%29 innovation%2C 5%29 diffusion%2C and 6%29 adoption. This model clearly shows the interaction of the three most influential domains%3A users%2C changes%2C and the environment. The model also takes into consideration the influence of technology and market-driven forces on the creation and diffusion of innovation. DECISION MAKING MODELING OF CONCRETE REQUIREMENTS
This paper presents the results of an experimental evaluation between predicted and practice concrete strength. The scope of the evaluation is the optimisation of the cement content for different concrete grades as a result of bringing the target mean value of tests cubes closer to the required characteristic strength value by reducing the standard deviation. PENGARUH PENCAMPURAN ABU SEKAM PADI DAN KAPUR UNTUK STABILISASI TANAH EKSPANSIF
Stabilization is one of several methods to reduce swelling potential of expansive soils. In this experiment, a mix of lime (Ca) and rice husk ash (RHA) was used to stabilize the expansive soil. Sixty to eighty percent of lime content used to stabilize soil was replaced with rice husk ash.
The result shows that the addition of 24% lime increases the strength of the soil up to 400%, if 60% of lime content is replaced with rice husk ash, the increase dropped to 300%. In general, a mix of 40% lime and 60% rice husk ash could reduce swelling potential, up to below 1%, and increase the strength of expansive soil. Optimum curing needed to achieve maximum strength of the mix is 14 days.

Stabilisasi adalah salah satu langkah untuk mengantisipasi sifat kembang susut pada tanah ekspansif. Pada penelitian ini digunakan campuran kapur (Ca) dan abu sekam padi (RHA) untuk menstabilisasi tanah expansif. Antara 60% sampai dengan 80% kandungan kapur untuk stabilisasi diganti dengan abu sekam padi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan 24% kapur dapat meningkatkan kekuatan tanah sampai 400%, sedangkan bila 60% dari kapur tersebut diganti dengan abu sekam, kekuatannya turun menjadi 300%. Secara umum, campuran 60% abu sekam padi dan 40% kapur sangat efektif untuk menurunkan potensi pengembangan (swelling), sampai di bawah 1%, dan meningkatkan kekuatan tanah (strength). Curing optimum yang diperlukan tanah campuran untuk mencapai kekuatan maksimum adalah 14 hari
THE USE OF OUTRIGGER AND BELT TRUSS SYSTEM FOR HIGH-RISE CONCRETE BUILDINGS
The outrigger and belt truss system is commonly used as one of the structural system to effectively control the excessive drift due to lateral load, so that, during small or medium lateral load due to either wind or earthquake load, the risk of structural and non-structural damage can be minimized. For high-rise buildings, particularly in seismic active zone or wind load dominant, this system can be chosen as an appropriate structure.
This paper studies the use of outrigger and belt truss system for high-rise concrete building subjected to wind or earthquake load. Eight 40storey two dimensional models of outrigger and belt truss system are subjected to wind load; and five 60storey three dimensional models are subjected to earthquake load, analyzed and compared to find the lateral displacement reduction related to the outrigger and belt system location. For the two dimensional 40storey model, 65% maximum displacement reduction can be achieved by providing first outrigger at the top and second outrigger at the middle of the structure height. For the three dimensional 60storey structural model subjected to the earthquake load, about 18 % reduction in maximum displacement can be achieved with optimum location of the outrigger truss placed at the top and the 33rd level
Keandalan Analisa Pushover Untuk Meramal Prilaku Seismik Nonlinier Struktur Portal Terbuka Dengan Reentrant Corner
This study is part of an ongoing study on the reliability of static pushover analysis at Petra Christian University. In this study two open frame buildings, five and ten story with re-entrant corner, are designed in accordance with the proposed Indonesian Earthquake Code (SNI 1726-1999, 3rd concept). The seismic performance of these buildings is evaluated using three dimensional static pushover and dynamic nonlinear time history analysis. The ground motions used in the dynamic analysis are spectrum consistent ground motions scaled to maximum acceleration of various return periods. The resulting Capacity Curves (Base Shears vs. Top Floor Displacement) are then compared. It is shown that although the static pushover analysis gives a conservative performance prediction, the predicted capacity curve is getting worse with the higher modes influence.

Penelitian ini merupakan kelanjutan dari serangkaian penelitian yang dilakukan terhadap keandalan analisa beban dorong statik (static pushover analysis) di Universitas Kristen Petra. Dalam penelitian ini dua buah struktur portal terbuka terdiri dari struktur lima, dan sepuluh lantai, dengan re-entrant corner sebesar setengah dari intinya, direncanakan sesuai dengan konsep ke-3, SNI 1726-1999. Prilaku seismik ke dua struktur ini dievaluasi menggunakan analisa static pushover dan analisa dinamik nonlinier riwayat waktu. Untuk analisa riwayat waktu digunakan percepatan gempa sintesis yang telah disesuaikan dengan respons spektrum gempa Indonesia dengan menggunakan bermacam-macam percepatan tanah maksimum. Kurva kapasitas yang didapatkan dari analisa static pushover kemudian dibandingkan dengan kurva kapasitas yang didapatkan dengan analisa riwayat waktu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa analisa static pushover masih memberikan prediksi kapasitas struktur yang konservatif dan cukup memadai. Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa keandalan analisa pushover menurun sejalan dengan bertambahnya pengaruh ragam yang lebih tinggi
APLIKASI STATISTIK EKSTRIM DAN SIMULASI MONTE CARLO DALAM PENENTUAN BEBAN RENCANA PADA STRUKTUR DENGAN UMUR GUNA TERTENTU

Tidak banyak yasawan yang mengetahui bagaimana cara mendapatkan beban rencana dari data yang dimiliki. Makalah ini membahas penggunaan statistik ekstrim dan simulasi Monte Carlo untuk menentukan beban rencana untuk suatu umur guna tertentu. Diberikan pula beberapa contoh penggunaan kedua cara tersebut
