    No full text
The purpose of this study is to examine the determinants of customer trust in the Zimbabwean banks. The study determines the effect of bank competence, bank integrity, benevolence, structural assurance and service recovery on customer trust. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaires and analyzed by correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that benevolence, structural assurance, and service recovery exhibit a statistically significant influence on customer loyalty in the context of Zimbabwean banks. By contrast, bank competence and integrity have an insignificant effect on customers’ trust. The study concludes that in the context of Zimbabwean banks, in order to influence customer loyalty, banks need to invest in service recovery programs, display benevolent character and assure customers of quality service

Avocado seed starch and carboxymethyl cellulose superabsorbent polymer: Synthesis and characterisation

    No full text
Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) of crosslinked avocado seed starch and carboxymethyl cellulose were synthesized and their performance as fluid absorption materials was assessed by comparing them with those made from analytical grade starch. The SAPs were characterized by water absorption capacity (WAC) tests, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses, solubility fraction tests, effects of crosslinker quantity and swelling rate were investigated to determine the suitability of avocado starch in the synthesis of SAPs. Avocado seed starch was used in the superabsorbent polymer framework because of its biodegradability, abundance and limited use as a source of food for human consumption. The results of the research showed that the SAPs produced with avocado seed starch and those made from pure starch have comparable properties. The WAC for the avocado seed starch blend was 39g/g (3900% of the original weight) when the ratio of the avocado starch, carboxymethyl cellulose and aluminium sulphate was 88: 9.7: 2.3 respectively. The pure starch blend with a similar weight ratio had a WAC of 46.5g/g. As the amount of either starch was increased the differences between the WAC of the SAPs were less than 3.0g/g. FTIR spectra of the SAPs showed no significant differences between avocado starch and pure starch SAPs. The soluble fraction results showed that avocado SAPs had good gel formation. Analysis of experimental data by GraphPad Prism 6.0, one way Anova showed that there was no significant difference between the two types of SAPs for all the tests conducted. Avocado seed starch can therefore be used in the synthesis of superabsorbent polymers. It can be used as a substitute for starch extracted from agricultural plants that have already been studied in detail

High Energy Photons as Product Superposed Massive Particle-Antiparticle Pairs Paper (III)

    No full text
Our present understanding as revealed to us from Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity (STR) and experimental philosophy, informs us that a massive particle can never ever attain the light speed barrier: c = 2.99872354 × 108 ms−1. Massive particles are (according to the STR) eternally incarcerated to travel at sub-luminal speeds. On the other hand, Einstein’s STR does not forbid the existence of particles that travel at superluminal speeds. Only massless particles can travel at the speed of light and nothing else. In the present reading, we demonstrate that it should in-principle be possible to have massive particles travel at the speed of light. Our investigations suggest that all light (Electromagnetic radiation or any particle for that matter that travels at the speed of light) may very well be comprised of two massive particle-antiparticle coupled pair

Long range, long lived and gauge invariant massive photons via Stückelberg scalar coupling.

Published Journal Article,It is largely believed (or strongly assumed) that photons are massless particles and the most compelling evidence there—it is said—is found in the manifestations of photons being long ranged and long lived particles. As we have done before, albeit, with a much better and clear insight in the present than before; we argue herein that massive photons can still enjoy the special and rare privilege of travelling at the speed of light c while being long ranged, long lived and most of all, obeying the much desired gauge symmetry. This we achieve by breaking the traditional Lorenz gauge and in its place, we introduce a new Special Gauge Condition (SGC) that does the work of assuring the photon its longevity, long range-ness and that it [photon] propagates at the speed c. However, the most melancholic outcome of our investigation is that if the present scheme is what subtle Nature has chosen to endow the photon a non-zero mass so that it [photon] still obeys gauge invariance, is long ranged, long lived and travels at the sacred speed c; then, this non-zero photon mass may be very difficult, if not impossible to measure. We use the equations developed to investigate Lorentz violation in γ-ray bursts

This research focuses on youth involvement in the formulation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals: A case of Zimbabwe. The research examined various efforts by government, The United Nation’s Agencies and Civil society organisations on and offline, to involve young people in the SDG formulation process in Zimbabwe, the obstacles, strengths and weaknesses of approaches employed. It also provides recommendations to improve engagements of young people in policy shaping and practice in Zimbabwe, Africa and the world. The study will proffer lessons learnt from engaging young people in the SDG formulation process, the socio-cultural, economic and political challenges that inhibit involvement of young people in policy formulation and recommendations to tackle these challenges to increase youth participation in the implementation and monitoring off the SDGs. The study revealed that young people’s participation in the process was at varying levels, depending on their socio, cultural, economic and political circumstances. Purposive sampling was employed with use of semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions to collect data

    No full text
This study investigated the possible impact that trading automation of Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) could have on the development of the local capital market from an ex-ante perspective. An assessment of the current level of development of the local capital market was looked at with a view of making recommendations for further improvement from the current levels. In measuring capital market development, four parameters namely, liquidity, volume and value traded, price discovery process and regulation of the market, were used as proxies for capital market development. In determining the current level of capital market development in Zimbabwe, a Capital Market Diagnostic Model was used. A survey was used to collect data from the capital market stakeholders through a structured questionnaire. The results indicated that trading automation has got statistical significant relationships with local market liquidity, volumes and value traded, price discovery process and local market regulation. The study concluded that trading automation of ZSE will result in capital market development, improvement in liquidity, volume and value traded, price discovery process as well as regulation of the local market

The role of music in the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe: a case study of Matabeland region which was under the control of the ZIPRA forces

    No full text
The study was on the role of music in the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe, and Matabeleland region in particular. The main focus of the study was to examine how liberation music in Matabeleland region provided an outlet for their anguish and bitterness about the insensitive colonial system. The use of liberation songs in the decolonization process in Zimbabwe depicted music as a bludgeon which was dedicated to express the people's experiences under a colonial system which had proved to be insensitive to the people’s needs. The liberation songs emerged in Matabeleland area in the decolonization process, as a way to cope with the new challenges within the imposed brutal colonial government and also as a way to clearly exhibit their remonstration against it. In a bid to acquire relative information, the researcher used the descriptive method involving questionnaires and interviews. In the study fifteen ZIPRA ex-combatant and twelve former members of the ZAPU part participated. The questionnaires were personally administered by the researcher and the interviews were conducted using face to face method. The study revealed that one of the challenges was that the loose of memory and the concept of downplaying the role of music which have resulted in great loose of palatable history of Matabeleland and Zimbabwe at large about the decolonization process. It was also revealed that there was shortage of the information about the history of the decolonization process in Matabeleland, especially the contribution of the ZIPRA forces I particular. The research study recommends that future researchers should also trick the history of the Ndebele people and the contribution of the ZIPRA forces in the decolonization process in a bid together a reliable history of Zimbabwe
