    Spirulina is a microalgae have a high nutrient content and bioactive compound were good for health. This microalgae can be cultivated indoor or outdoor as needed. One of the applications of Spirulina is for lozenges. The purpose of this study is determine the effect of packaging and shelf life of Spirulina lozenges on the growth of bacteria and fungi. This microalgae can be cultivated indoor or outdoor as needed. One of the applications of Spirulina is for lozenges. Bacteria and fungi still grow on the Spirulina lozenge which packaged using alumunium foil and plastic bottle. However bacteria and fungi total on Spirulina lozenge during storage on 8 weeks are not different

    This study aimed to identify patterns of feed provision and evaluate the nutritional adequacy of crossbred goats (EC) in Totallang, Lasusua District of North Kolaka. The method used was descriptive analysis to describe the general state of research sites, feeding system and adequacy of nutrien by EC goats. The result revealed that livestock rearing is generally performed by breeders at the age of 1556 years (productive age group) of 81.25 and the remaining 18.75 in those aged >56 years. The experience of breeder ranges from 15 years (68.75) and >6 years (31.25). The type of feed used by farmers in the village of Totallang include: Gliricidia sp., Pennisetum purpureum, Erytrina subumbrans (Hassk.), and Ficus variegata Blume. Gliricidia sp. was dominant forage fed to animals (95.98) and other forage were fed in limited portion such as: pennisetum purpureum (1.79), Erytrina subumbrans (Hassk.) (1.34%) and Ficus variegata Blume (0.89). Gliricidia sp. contributed protein in ration up to 16.82. About 56.25 of farmer fed animal with 100 Gliricidia sp., while 18.75 of farmer used Gliricidia sp. in combination with Erytrina subumbrans (Hassk.) and 12.5 of them fed EC goats with combination of Gliricidia sp. and Erytrina subumbrans (Hassk.) or and Ficus variegata Blume. About 62.5 farmer in Totallang fed their goat with sufficient dry matter intake according to Kearl (1982), as well as 100 of goat were sufficient in crude protein intake meanwhile TDN intake were not fulfilled by farmer about 93.75

    Businesses in food processing plays an important role in the national economy. Facing the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), the performance of the food SMEs needs to be improved in order to compete in the ASEAN region. One of the institutions that play a role in nurturing the business SMEs is Business Incubators. This study aimed to assess the performance of University Business Incubators in nurturing the incubator tenants and to assess the effect of incubation program on the performance of Food SMEs tenants. Research was conducted at several Business Incubators belong to universities by interviewing managers and tenants of the Business Incubators that have focus on the food processing sector. Data were analyzed using balanced scorecard (BSC). The results showed that most of the University Business Incubators have sufficient performances (75) and only a small portion performs well (17) and excellent (8). Business Incubators in general have several limitations such as limitations in process, quality, and facility in incubation program, low efficiency and financial independence. Business Incubators have contributed in improving the business performance of the tenants by increasing the number of labor, the turnover, the market region, and the access to financial sources

    Analisis 3-Monokloro-1,2-Propanadiol (3-MCPD) Ester dalam Minyak Sawit dengan Instrumen Kromatografi Gas-Spektroskopi Massa

    A group of components called as 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) esters has been found in some vegetable oils, particularly palm oil. Analysis of these components needs GC-MS instrument to reach a low level detection, parts per billion or ppb level. An effort to validate the 3-MCPD esters analysis by GC-MS method (Weiβhaar method) using phenyl boronic acid (PBA) as a derivatizing agent and isotopic internal standard (IS) 3-MCPD-D5 followed by the determination of 3-MCPD in commercial palm oils has been conducted. The analytical results showed the instrumental performance as follows: instrument linearity for the analysis of 3-MCPD standard solutions containing IS 2.0 μg/mL was obtained at a concentration range of 0.25-7.50 μg/mL test solution with R2 higher than 0.990, precision of 3-MCPD as well as IS retention time was less than 2.0% which was acceptable according to JECFA guidance. Instrument detection limit (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) were read from GC-MS based on the linearity experiment, i.e. 0.17 and 0.59 μg/mL solution, respectively. Method linearity by using palm oil as a matrix also showed R2 higher than 0.990. Recovery test result at 40 μg/g gave an accuracy at 83.29 ± 7.12% which is in the range of AOAC standard (80-110%) and precision at 5.38% (less than RSDHORWITZ). Analysis of 14 palm oils from local market showed 100% of the sampels were positive to contain 3-MCPD esters. 3-MCPD esters in palm oil were found at a concentration range of 8.15-58.14 µg 3-MCPD/g sample

    This experiment aimed to determine the effect of phytase enzyme and ZnO supplementation on the percentage of weight of carcass, commercial cuts, abdominal fat of males, and females of Sentul-G3 chicken fed high rice bran diet. There are nine treatments, R1 = 50% commercial diet: 50% rice bran; R2 = R1 + 1.5 g ZnO/kg; R3 = R1 + 3.2 g ZnO/kg; R4 = R1 + phytase 1.000 U/kg; R5 = R1 + (phytase 1.000 U/kg + 1.5 g ZnO/kg); R6 = R1 + (phytase 1.000 U/kg + 3.2 g ZnO / kg); R7 = R1 + phytase 2.000 U/kg; R8 = R1 + (phytase 2.000 U/kg + 1.5 g ZnO/kg); dan R9 = R1 + (phytase 2.000 U/kg + 3.2 g ZnO/kg). Each experimental unit consisted of 6 animals unsexed local chicken Sentul-G3. Beside that, used commercial diet treatment. Parameters observed were percentage of weight of carcass, commercial cuts, abdominal fat of males, and females of Sentul-G3 chicken. The experimental results showed that the diet treatment did not gave effect to percentage of weight of male and female carcass, male and female backs, the female wings, upper thights and abdominal fat of male and female chickens Sentul-G3. Diet treatments gave varies effect to weight percentage of male and female breast, upper thighs female, male and female lower thighs chicken Sentul-G3. The combination of 2.000 U phytase and 3.2 g of ZnO/kg diet lowers weight percentage of male wings. Supplementation of 1.5 g ZnO/kg diet increases abdominal fat deposition

    Lechitocladium angustiovum is fish helminth parasites in the digestive tract to the Rastrelliger genus. The habitat of helminth parasites divided into microhabitat and makrohabitat. Fish helminth parasites infections showed the interaction of extrinsic factors (hosts habitat) and intrinsic factors (biological host). The study was conducted in February-June 2013 in the waters of the Banten Bay (Banten Province) and Pelabuhan Ratu Bay (West Jawa Province). Microhabitat helminth parasites of L. angustiovum that infect R. brachysoma gastrointestinal tract is the stomach and intestines. The presence of fish helminth parasites in fish is mutually beneficial. Fish helminth parasites get food from the fish but its presence prevents other parasites that infect fish. The presence of these worms in the digestive tract is affected by the presence of copepode and small crustaceans that are influenced by the host biology (growth and gonad development) and environmental waters. The number of L. angustiovum from Banten Bay and Pelabuhan Ratu Bay was not significantly different because of the fish has genetically similar populations.

    Kualitas Perairan Sungai Buaya di Pulau Bunyu Kalimantan Utara pada Kondisi Pasang Surut

    Buaya River is one of the river in Bunyu Island which is found near with domestic and agricultural activities. Moreover, Buaya River is also used for fisheries activity by people nearby (fish products collecting and processing) and also used by the fisherman as the back of the boat. These activities will influence and change water quality. This research aimed to analysed water quality condition at Buaya River. Water quality assessment was conducted at four observation station. Water quality was analysed using Storet index and was compared with threshold for marine organisms (Kepmen No. 51/MENLH/2004). The result showed that Buaya River had been polluted at medium level at tide and medium to heavy level at low tide. TSS, oil and grease were not suitable with marine organisms threshold at all stations in low high and low tide.

    Bulls are expected to be able to produce a good quality and quantity of sperm. The objective of this experiment was to study the effect of Zn supplementation on the sperm quality, in Frisian holstein bulls. Ten bulls, 1618 months of age were used in this experiment. The experimental bulls were divided into two groups, i.e.,group without Zn supplementation (control) and group with 60 ppm of Zn supplementation. Zn supplementations were given everyday for a period of four months. Semen was collected by using artificial vaginaat the end of the experiment. Semen quality was evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. The variables measured were semen volume, semen pH, sperm motility, sperm concentration, sperm viability, and sperm abnormality. The results showed that Zn supplementation significantly increased sperm motility and sperm concentration (P<0.05), whereas there was no significant difference in other parameters

    Mangrove is one of the natural resource that has an important role in maintaining the balance between land-based and aquatic ecosystems. Therefore the ecosystems are placed as one of the life-supporting ecosystems which is needed to be preserved. This study was held in Blanakan Bay with objectives were: 1) To describe the covered area of mangrove ecosystem; and 2) To calculate the value of mangrove ecosystem services. Mangrove covered area was obtained through satellite image analysis while ecosystem services was anlyzed by economic valuation method. Economic valuation for mangrove ecosystem services is an important variable in coastal management. The result showed that mangrove covered area was decreasing by 5% per year during the period of 2005-2012 while the value of the ecosystem services in the study area was Rp3.815.790.110,97/year

    The increase of import volume and the decrease of export volume of vegetables require the efforts to increase the competitiveness of local vegetable products. Potato is the core of highland vegetable commodities in national and regional areas that potential to be developed. One of the potatoes production centers in Central Java is Banjarnegara Regency. The purpose of this study are to formulate strategy and key performance indicators (KPIs) that will increase the competitiveness of potato in Banjarnegara. Data analyzed by Descriptive analysis, TOWS analysis, and Pairwise Comparison. The results of this study indicate that: the KPIs that become the priorities in increasing the competitiveness of potato in Banjarnegara are; a) The number of farmers who distribute their products in cooperative; b) Percentage increase in the number of certified seed potatoes that meet farmer’s needs; and c) Percentage increase of the local potatoes production to meet the demand of domestic and export markets as well as the related regulations on potatoes business partnership contract system.
