This study aimed to determine the feasibility of upland rice farming, the breakeven point of price and production, and the ratio of increasing profit of the jajar wayang to double row planting system. The study was conducted in Singosari Village, Mojosongo Sub-District, Boyolali District during rainy season in 2016/2017. The study of upland rice planting system was demonstrated on 4 ha of dry land, using Inpago 8 and Inpago 9 varieties which were planted in double row and jajar wayang system. The data were analyzed descriptively both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the analysis showed that the Inpago 9 variety grown in double row gave the highest productivity (5.5 tons/ha) compared to the Inpago 8 variety and the other cropping systems so that the profit obtained was IDR13.552.000/ha (RCR=2.99). Break even point analysis of prices and production showed that if there was a decrease in prices and production of 57.39-66.59%, the farmers did not suffer losses. Changes in the planting system from jajar wayang to double row provided a proportion of increase in profits in Inpago 8 varieties by 18.79% and in Inpago 9 varieties by 7.71%, indicating NKB value of 1.24 and 1.09. Therefore, the productivity of upland rice on dry land can be increased with double row planting system

Klorofil Daun Suji: Potensi dan Tantangan Pengembangan Pewarna Hijau Alami

Chlorophyll has long been used as a green colorant for food and non-food applications. One source of chlorophyll is suji (Dracaena angustifolia (Medik.) Roxb.) leaf. The suji leaf chlorophyll has advantages and unique characteristics compared to the other chlorophyll sources that potential to be developed as a natural colorant. However, chlorophyll is easily degraded due to enzymatic and environmental factors. During processing and storage, the chlorophyll structure changes to its derivative compounds which are no longer green. Several attempts have been done to maintain the quality of the green color and quantity of chlorophyll contained in suji leaves. The formation of metallo-chlorophyll and development of suji leaf powder colorant have not been able to match the quality and quantity of its extract. These constraints become a challenge in the development of suji leaves as a natural colorant

Since 2008 Javan Gibbon’s (Hylobates moloch) status is endangered due to the capture of gibbons in the wild to be used as pets which are increasingly prevalent. Conservation efforts of Javan Gibbon population have been conducted at the rescue populations of Javan Gibbons in Javan Gibbon Centre (JGC). Javan Gibbon are the result of voluntary surrender of the community and confiscation of quarantine officer. Rehabilitation in JGC aims to restore the wild instincts of Javan Gibbon before being released in to the wild environment. This study aimed to identify the daily activities and behavior patterns of Javan gibbon pair and to analyze the abiotic factors that influence them in Javan Gibbon Centre (JGC) as one aspect of their readiness to be released into the wild environment. The study focused on three pairs of Javan Gibbons namely Boby-Jolly, Willie-Sasa, and Asep-Dompu. Based on the observation of three pairs of Javan gibbon, resting is the most dominant activity with the percentage of 60-80% followed by traveling (8-20%), feeding (7-13%), social (0-4%), and aggressive behavior (<1%). The most common social behaviors of Javan Gibbon pairs were allogrooming, courtship, and vocalization. Ambient temperature and rainfall were abiotics factors the most affecting the activity and behavior of the Javan Gibbon pair in terms of vocalization. Javan Gibbon will stop vocalization if the ambient temperature is low and when rainfall is high. Based on the observation data, Willie-Sasa was considered to have fulfilled one aspect of the assessment for their release into the wild environment. The dominant aspect of this pair is the frequency of socialization and vocalization that approaches frequency of Javan Gibbon behavior in the wild environment

Vegetative soil and water conservation can be done by planting annual plants (timber) and crops. On sloping areas, terraces function to prevent erosion and to maintain the soil fertility. One effort to protect the terrace is to plant animal-feed plants. The combination of woody plants and grasses can increase the value of conservation and provide results for landowners, namely wood and forage. The research was designed to evaluate the growth of manglid (Magnolia champaca), sengon (Falcataria mollucana), and elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) planted in agroforestry. The study used a split plot design group with wood plant species, namely 4 spacing (3 x 3; 3 x 4; 3 x 5; and 3 x 6 m) each of three replications. The number of staple plants per treatment of 49 plants (7 x 7) by means of the type of sengon and manglid was planted by alternating hose. Elephant grass was planted along the terrace with a spacing of 1 x 1 m. The results showed that the spacing of the main plants 3 x 5 m with a distance between 5 m lines gave the best tree growth (diameter 24.5 mm and height 129.41 cm). The number of shoots per elephant grass clump ranged between 44-134 shoots with a wet weight per sample range of 83.6-278/g/shoot, while the productivity per area of 4 m2 ranged between 0.8-13.25 kg wet weight and 0.32-5.26 kg dry weight

The job design that is accommodative with the organization objective is vital to create efficiency in job performance, develop work satisfaction, and accelerate productivity. In SPR, a manager acts as a collective business coordinator. The objectives of this research were to analyze the difference of job characterization between SPR managers and Sentra PR managers and develop an appropriate job design. The necessary of identification of job characterization is to predict a successful job. The characterization was identified based on task, knowledge, social, and contextual characteristics. Samples were collected by interview and questionnaire. Sampling method used purposive sampling to 28 SPR managers in Indonesia, by then processed by t-test using SPSS versi 21.00.  This research proved that SPR managers have a higher value in job characterization from several perspective, that is: task characteristic (task identity), knowledge characteristics (problem solving and skill variety) and social characteristic (feedback from others), however, there was no difference on contextual characteristic off those groups. The job design is created based on job characteristics such as task variety, problem solving, social support, and physical demands. The job design contains information about job description and qualification of SPR managers. Qualifications needed included education (bachelor degree from various majors), knowledge (about field conditions, local community, administration, reporting, and having knowledge of livestock will bean added value), skills and abilities (leadership and motivating farmers, initiatives and able to solve problems, entrepreneurial skills, good communication and negotiation skills, can operate computers and use the internet), and behavior (careful, disciplin, patient, innovative, creative, and hard-working)

Land use changes from Malaleuca cajuputi swamp forest ecosystem to agriculture production area and settlement land decrease habitat of proboscis monkeys. The habitat position at the edge of the river and high accessibility caused faster habitat damage. In addition, forest fires occurred in 2015 has caused significant losses of flora and fauna biodiversity in the area. In order to know the type of plants in the study site, the vegetation analysis was conducted. The study site consisted of 19 species of lower plant and 4 types of trees. Dominant species and codominant of study site are widely distributed, indicating the existence of competition in obtaining nutrients and space. At the under storey plant level was dominated by Stenochlaena palustris and Scirpus grossus at the locations A and B whereas at location C was dominated by the Eleocharis dulcis and Jussieua erecta. In the types of trees, the dominant trees were Melaleuca cajuputi, Muntingia sp, Alstonia angustifolia, Shorea balangeran, and Albizia falcataria. In all three locations, there were low similarity values in the plant species below, the level of seedlings, and samplings

Specialty coffee is sold in a very expensive price. Specialty coffee is usually consumed as a single origin (without mixed with other coffee). For this reason, the detection of impurities (authentication) in specialty coffee is a very important process to be performed. In this study, UV-visible spectroscopy combined with PLS-DA method were used to discriminate between two specialty coffees from South Sulawesi (Kalosi and Toraja). A number of 100 ground roasted coffee samples were used for Kalosi and Toraja, respectively (1 gram each sample). A standard aqueous extraction procedure of the coffee samples using distilled water was performed and the spectral data of aqueous samples of Kalosi and Toraja coffee were acquired in transmittance mode using a UV-Visible spectrometer (Genesys™ 10S UV-Vis, Thermo Scientific, USA). The result showed that using PLS-DA method, all prediction samples were correctly classified into their corresponding classes with 100% rate for sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy, respectively

Most of Amorphophallus muelleri seeds for corm production derives from natural production in the forest. The objective of research was to evaluate seed quality and seedling growth from natural and gibberellin (GA3)-induced flowering, and different growing media in order to develop seed production technology. The experiments were conducted at Leuwikopo Experimental Farm of Bogor Agricultural University, Bogor, Indonesia from August 2016-April 2017. A. muelleri seeds from six culture practices were compared, i.e., mother corms with natural flowering were planted in soil media, soil+rice husk charcoal, and soil+cow manure, and mother corms induced flowering using GA3 (1.000, 1.500, and 2000 ppm) were planted in soil media. Results indicated that berry size, color, seed color and size and seed germination rate were independent of seed production method, i.e., non-induction, GA3 induction, and growing media. Germination rate was >90%, and no abnormal sprouting was found. The highest seedling establishment, represented by full-expand of first leaf, was obtained from seeds of soil+rice husk charcoal media. Seedling from seeds of soil+rice husk charcoal and soil+cow manure media had larger leaves than the other treatments. Present study implies that application of rice husk charcoal or manure in the seed production of A. muelleri is important to obtain high quality seedling
