Simulation and feasibility assessment of a green hydrogen supply chain:a case study in Oman
The transition to sustainable energy is crucial for mitigating climate change impacts. This study addresses this imperative by simulating a green hydrogen supply chain tailored for residential cooking in Oman. The supply chain encompasses solar energy production, underground storage, pipeline transportation, and residential application, aiming to curtail greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH). The simulation results suggest leveraging a robust 7 GW solar plant. Oman achieves an impressive annual production of 9.78 TWh of green hydrogen, equivalent to 147,808 tonnes of H2, perfectly aligning with the ambitious goals of Oman Vision 2040. The overall LCOH for the green hydrogen supply chain is estimated at a highly competitive 6.826 USD/kg, demonstrating cost competitiveness when benchmarked against analogous studies. A sensitivity analysis highlights Oman’s potential for cost-effective investments in green hydrogen infrastructure, propelling the nation towards a sustainable energy future. This study not only addresses the pressing issue of reducing carbon emissions in the residential sector but also serves as a model for other regions pursuing sustainable energy transitions. Advances in Organic Small Molecule-Based Fluorescent Probes for Precision Detection of Liver Diseases:A Perspective on Emerging Trends and Challenges
Liver disease poses a significant challenge to global health, and its early diagnosis is crucial for improving treatment outcomes and patient prognosis. Since fluctuation of key biomarkers during the onset and progression of liver diseases can directly reflect liver health and normal/abnormal function, biomarker-based assays are vital tools for the early detection of liver disease. In this context, small molecule fluorescent probes have undeniably emerged as indispensable tools for diagnosis and analysis, with an ever-growing number of small molecule-based fluorescent probes being developed over recent years, with the sole aim of monitoring relevant biomarkers of liver disease. This perspective will focus on the development and application of probes developed primarily over the last 10 years for diagnosing a range liver disease-related processes. It will outline the foundational design strategies for developing promising probes, their optical response to key biomarkers, and how they have been demonstrated in proof-of-concept imaging applications. Current challenges and new developments in the field will be discussed, with the aim of providing insights and highlighting opportunities in the field.</p

Analysis of Cogging Torque under Eccentricity of PMSMs for EV Steer-by-Wire System
Cogging torque is an inherent characteristic of permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs). Eccentricity caused by manufacturing errors and assembly deviations would aggravate cogging torque, further deteriorate control accuracy and torque ripple of electrical machine-based traction systems. In this article, an improved magnetic co-energy method based on the airgap field modulation theory (AFMT) is developed to investigate the effects of different eccentricity types on the cogging torque of a 22-pole/24-slot outer-rotor surface-mounted PMSM (OR-SPMSM) for electric vehicles (EVs) steer-by-wire systems. The proposed analytical model demonstrates that static eccentricity (SE) induces the specific orders of cogging torque associated with rotor pole multiples, whereas dynamic eccentricity (DE) introduces the orders related to stator slots multiples. For mixed eccentricity (ME), the orders of cogging torque not only contain the main harmonic orders of SE and DE but also modulate other additional characteristic harmonics.</p
The Social Multiplier of Leisure:Peer Effects in Museum Attendance
This study uses a unique longitudinal data set on daily museum visits in Northern Italy to investigate how social networks influence leisure consumption. Based on detailed administrative records of museum cardholders, we use repeated joint visits to build a dynamic network of peers. We identify peer effects that exploit exogenous variation in membership prices generated by age-based discounts. We find robust evidence of peer spillovers in both museum attendance and membership renewal, primarily driven by a preference for shared experiences. These results underscore the role of social interactions in shaping leisure demand and support the view that social networks can amplify individual behavior. More broadly, our findings contribute to the understanding of peer dynamics in settings where consumption is inherently social.<br/
Cardiovascular and venous thromboembolic events in systemic sclerosis:Epidemiological analysis of the Clinical Practice Research Datalink
Objectives Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality in systemic sclerosis (SSc). We investigated the association between SSc and the occurrence of both cardiovascular and thromboembolic events using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD). Methods A validated case-ascertainment strategy identified SSc patients in the CPRD. A cohort study design examined rates of coronary arterial disease (CAD), cerebrovascular disease, peripheral artery disease (PAD) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) in SSc patients matched to non-SSc comparators by age, sex and location in a 1:6 ratio. Prevalent and incident cases of SSc were analysed separately. Cox regression analysis was used to determine hazard ratios for event occurrence, adjusted for traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Results We identified 877 eligible incident cases of SSc who were matched to 5262 patients without SSc (83.7% female), with a mean follow-up of 8 years. We identified a higher background prevalence of CAD, PAD and VTE at baseline (pre-dating diagnosis) in the SSc cohort. There was a significantly increased risk of CAD, PAD, peripheral venous thromboses and pulmonary embolism during follow-up in SSc compared with the non-SSc group (adjusted hazard ratios between 1.84-3.01), particularly amongst males. There was no increased risk of cerebrovascular disease. Conclusions We have identified an increased risk of cardiovascular events and VTE, both prior to a diagnosis of SSc and within 8 years of SSc diagnosis. Work is needed to establish the mechanism of arterial/venous thrombotic events in SSc. This insight will facilitate more targeted and effective preventative strategies and improve outcomes in SSc.</p
The future within:Commitment, hope, and values in entrepreneurship
This paper provides philosophical foundations for understanding the future as an internal space for entrepreneurial aspirations. Our argument is laid out in three premises. First, the beliefs underpinning conceptions of the future are best seen as hinge commitments, not subject to rational critique. Second, hope generates the power to make new beginnings and thus enable the pursuit of different futures. Third, the pull of a different future is enabled by the creation of new values that can act as a compass for its pursuit. By engaging with the existential side of the entrepreneurial pursuit of imagined futures, our work aims to expand our scholarly activity
