    POTENTIAL OF OZONE WATER TO REDUCE THE SEVERITY OF ORAL MUCOSITIS IN PATIENTS POST HEAD AND NECK RADIOTHERAPY

    Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world after heart disease. One type of cancer, namely head and neck cancer, can be treated with head and neck radiotherapy. Continuous radiotherapy will cause an increase in oxidative stress and free radicals and damage to the oral mucosa, one of which is oral mucositis. Giving ozone water can help reduce the degree of oral mucositis in patients. Ozone water itself has several beneficial effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of ozone water in reducing the severity of oral mucositis in patients after head and neck radiotherapy.Method: Gargling treatment using ozone water in a ratio of 2:3 for 1 minute with 4 repetitions for 2 weeks showed a significant reduction in pain. Ozone used in gas or liquid form for more than 5 minutes has the potential to cause side effects on the duration of inflammation and for gas can cause infection in the respiratory tract.Conclusion: The conclusion of this review is that the administration of ozone water with a concentration of 2-4 ppm for approximately 5 minutes has the potential to cure oral mucositis due to head and neck radiotherap

    THE INFLUENCE OF LEMON (Citrus Limon (L.)) IRON ION (Fe) REMOVAL ON STAINLESS STEEL ORTHODONTIC WIRE

    Background: Lemons consist of 5-8% citric acid, have a pH of around 2.74. Drinks that have a critical pH of 5.5 can be said to be acidic drinks. Acidic drinks have the potential to cause corrosion of teeth and dental materials, one of which is stainless steel orthodontic wire. Stainless steel orthodontic wire is easily corroded, the wire has a composition of 71% Iron (Fe), 18% Chromium (Cr), 8% Nickel (Ni), and 0.2% Carbon (C). Corrosion is caused by the presence of inorganic components that act as electrolyte media that can trigger electrochemical reactions.Method: Each sample was placed on each uninsulated petridish and labeled as a marker. This is done by inserting orthodontic wire which is immersed into the incubator for 3.5 hours at 37℃. Then the sample is taken and the separation between the sample and the solution is carried out. After that, the measurement of Iron (Fe) ions was carried out using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotomery tool.Result: The results showed the average release of Iron (Fe) ions in the experimental group of lemon juice with a concentration of 25% was 0.067mg/L, a concentration of 50% was 0.090mg/L and a concentration of 100% was 0.135mg/L. The test results obtained using the One Way Anova test showed that there was no significant difference (p>0.05).Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the release of Iron (Fe) ions in stainless steel orthodontic wires between experimental groups, and there was no effect of soaking lemon juice (Citrus Limon (L.)) on the release of Iron (Fe) ions in stainless steel orthodontic wires

    Background: Head and Neck Cancer (oral, nose, pharynx, and larynx area) are 890.000 new cases and 450.000 deaths in 2018. One of the treatment’s Radiotherapy affects saliva’s quality in physicochemical properties (flow rate, consistency, and acidity). Physicochemical properties are analyzed because they can influence saliva’s quality. The study is to get updated analysis about physicochemical properties’ saliva in Radiotherapy of Head and Neck Cancer Patient. Method: There are 39.972 articles, searched in Google Scholar, Academia, and Microsoft Academy database. The articles that are connected with keywords topic are 52 articles with abstract and title screening processes. The next process is selecting articles and getting 17 excluding articles and 35 including articles. The total articles are 35 articles. Therefore, they’re ready to be analyzed.Result: Major result of the analysis is radiotherapy affecting patients with Xerostomia. There’s a reducing flow rate, increasing consistency, and pH decrease in the acute phase. In the late phase, physicochemical properties’ saliva quality is decreased because of high ionizing radiation damaging DNA and membrane of the acinar cell. Primary saliva became hypertonic because protein kinase A enzyme and protein kinase C enzyme fail to do phosphorylation to build protein materials in the acinar cell. Conclusion: Radiotherapy making Xerostomia impact decreasing physicochemical properties’ quality in head and neck cancer. Education is the main thing to take Xerostomia’s complications for maintaining OHI like teeth brushing, chlorhexidine, fluoride or salivary stimulant application, and others.     Background : The latest development of dental material restoration is a bulk fill sculptable composite resin. This material can be applied to a 4 mm cavity at once irradiation. The success of polymerization can be affected by improper irradiation. Both the physical and mechanical properties of the material also can be decreased by improper irradiation. This study aimed to determine the effect of different light-cured unit intensities on the depth of polymerization of bulk fills sculptable composite resin restorations.Method : This research method was an experimental analytic type of post-test only control group design laboratory, consisting of 24 bulk fill sculptable composite resin with a diameter of 4mm x 6mm thickness divided into 6 groups:A1(3M ESPE-low intensity),A2(3M ESPE-high intensity),A3(3M ESPE-soft start intensity),B1(Ivoclar vivacity-low intensity),B2(Ivoclar vivadent-high intensity) and B3(Ivoclar vivadent-soft start intensity). Result : The results showed a significant effect of the low, high, and soft start intensity light-cured units in the bulk fill sculptable composite resin groups by Kruskal-Wallis test 0.00 (p <0.05).Conclusion : The best polymerization depth of bulk fill sculptable composite resin was 3M ESPE and it was affected by the high and low-intensity light-cured unit

    HERPES ASSOCIATED ERITHEMA MULTIFORME (HAEM ) ON THE PSYCHOSOMATIC PATIENT : A CASE REPORT

    Background : Erythema multiforme is an acute mucocutaneous inflammation which is self limiting desease. One of caused of Erythema multiforme is Herpes Simplex Virus infection diagnosed as Herpes Associated Erytema Multiforme (HAEM). The psychosomatic patients should be wary of anti-depressant therapy, because if there is an allergy, it can trigger the occurrence of erthema multiformis. In this paper, we will reported HAEM case on psychosomatic patient.Case and management : A case of 23 years old female patient with chief complaint sore and pain lips since one weeks ago. The patient has been on anti-depressant therapy for one month. Clinical examination on patient showed that there were erosive lesion covered by reddish brown crusta, sloughing on the border between lips and labial mucosa, and bloody lips. The results of laboratory tests show positive HSV. Patient was diagnosed with HAEM. Therapy given to the patient was corticosteroid topical oitment, acyclovir and oral rinse antiseptics. After two weeks the administration, condition on the patient has improved.Conclusions : HAEM cases if treated properly can recover well. Trigger factors must be controlled so that not recurranc

    Background : Regeneration of periodontal ligament cells with tilapia scales collagen (Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the therapies that can be used in the field of periodontics. This review aims to explain the mechanism of periodontal ligament cell regeneration using tilapia scales (Oreochromis niloticus) collagen.Methods : Literature collection is done by selecting journals or articles through PubMed, NCBI, and Google Scholar based on keywords that match the author's criteria.Results : Regeneration of cells using collagen from tilapia scales can be used by using a bone graft technique because fish collagen contains calcium and phosphate that resembles human, namely hydroxyapatite (HAP). Fish scales are an alternative source of type I collagen and have the potential to be an alternative material for bone graft.Conclusions : Regeneration of periodontal ligament cells using tilapia scale collagen can be done using bone graft techniques. Fish scales have many benefits apart from having almost the same content as humans as well as materials that are still easy to obtain and a more economical price to use. The authors suggest that the researchers further conduct further research on the preparation of tilapia scales so that they can be applied in tissue engineering actions in the field of periodonsia

    Kejadian infeksi di Indonesia meningkat dalam 10 tahun terakhir ini dan tenaga medis Kedokteran Gigi berisiko tinggi terhadap penularan penyakit. Pengetahuan dan motivasi yang baik sangat diperlukan untuk mendukung penerapan kontrol infeksi yang telah dicanangkan oleh pemerintah, sebagai upaya mencegah dan mengendalikan kejadian infeksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubunganantara pengetahuan terhadap motivasi Dokter Gigi Muda dalam kontrol infeksi di  RSIGM Sultan Agung Semarang. Jenis penelitian menggunakan analitik observasional dengan pendekatan cross sectional study. Jumlah responden sebanyak 60 orang Dokter Gigi Muda. Teknik pengambilan sampel dengan cara simpel random sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara memberikan kuesioner mengenai  pengetahuan dan motivasi kepada Dokter Gigi Muda dalam kontrol infeksi serta dilakukan observasi perilaku sebagai data tambahan. Analisis statistik memakai uji korelasi Spearman rho. Berdasarkan uji Spearman rho didapatkan nilai sig. 0,034 (P<0,05) dan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,274 sehingga dapat disimpulkan terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara pengetahuan terhadap motivasi Dokter Gigi Muda dalam kontrol infeksi, dengan kategori kekuatan hubungan yang lemah. Hasil observasi perilaku Dokter Gigi Muda dalam kontrol infeksi menunjukan: penggunaan gaun pelindung (100%), penggunaan masker (92,5%), penggunaan sarung tangan (95%), mencuci tangan setelah tindakan (90%), mencuci tangan sebelum tindakan (65%), kepatuhan dalam mencuci tangan (74,2%) serta penggunaan pelindung mata dan wajah (20%). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan terhadap motivasi Dokter GigiMuda dalam kontrol infeksi dengan kekuatan hubungan lemah. Artinya bahwa pengetahuan berpengaruh lemah terhadap motivasi, diduga dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor seperti kurangnya pengawasan dan aturan yang kurang tegas yang terkait dalam kontrol infeksi

    PENGARUH PERASAN BUAH LEMON TERHADAP PENINGKATAN WARNA GIGI

    Perubahan warna pada gigi salah satunya disebabkan oleh adanya faktor ekstrinsik. Salah satu cara untuk menghilangkan perubahan warna gigi adalah dengan teknik bleaching. Pada teknik ini bahan aktif yang sering digunakan adalah hidrogen peroksida, tetapi bahan ini mempunyai dampak negatif pada gigi yaitu adanya sifat mutagenik. Diketahui asam malat adalah bahan alami yang dapat digunakan untuk bleaching gigi, dan salah satu buah yang mengandung asam malat adalah lemon. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perasan buah lemon terhadap peningkatan warna gigi. Pada penelitian ini digunakan rancangan eksperimental pre-post group design dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 24 gigi. Masing- masing 6 gigi direndam dalam perasan buah lemon dengan waktu 8 jam, 24 jam, 48 jam dan 72 jam. Untuk mengukur perubahan warna sebelum dan sesudah perendaman adalahspektrofotometer. Perbedaan nilai warna gigi dianalisa dengan uji statistik one way annova. Hasil uji one way anova menunjukkan adanya pengaruh secara signifikan terhadap peningkatan warna gigi, dengan nilai (p=0,02). Hasil uji post hoc  menunjukkan ada perbedaan antara perendaman selama 8 jam terhadap perendaman selama 24 jam dan 48 jam. Perendaman selama 72 jam menunjukkanada perbedaan dengan perendaman selama 8 jam dan 24 jam, namun pada  perendaman selama 8 jam menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan bermakna dibandingkan prendaman selama 24 jam 48 jam menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan dengan perendaman selama 72 jam. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa perasan buah lemon dapat berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan warna gigi, tetapi semakin lama waktu perendaman diduga akan menyebabkan meningkatnya porusitaspada gigi

    UJI EFEKTIFITAS EKSTRAK ANGGUR MERAH (Vitis Vinivera) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN CANDIDA ALBICANS SECARA IN VITRO

    Infeksi jamur di rongga mulut banyak disebabkan oleh jamur Candida albicans yang merupakan flora normal dalam tubuh dan bersifat opertunistik. Ekstrak anggur merah memiliki aktivitas antijamur, karena memiliki kandungan flavonoid dan tannin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak anggur merah berbagai konsentrasi terhadap pertumbuhan Candida albicans secara in vitro. Penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan post test only control group design. Sampel adalah Candida albicans dengan tingkat kepekaan sesuai dengan standar Mc Farland 0,5 yaitu 1 X 108 CFU/ml. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode cakram yang dilakukan pada satu kelompok kontrol dan empat kelompok perlakuan ekstrak anggur merah dengan konsentrasi 12,5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%. Pertumbuhan Candida albicans di ukur dari zona hambat yang terbentuk. Uji Kruskal Wallis dan Man-Whitney di gunakan untuk melihat perbedaan rata-rata diameter zona hambat. Hasil penelitian menunjukan diameter zona hambat ditemukan pada kelompok ekstrak anggur merah konsentrasi 12,5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%. Dengan rata-rata diameter 0,8mm,  1,26mm, 1,65mm, 2,1mm. Ke empat nilai rata-rata ini menunjukan perbedaan bermakna (nilai p=0,000). Disimpulkan bahwa semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak anggur merah, semakin besar daya hambatnya terhadap pertumbuhan jamurCandida albicans

    EFEKTIFITAS EKSTRAK LENGKUAS PUTIH (Alpina galangal L stuntz var. alba) DAN KUNYIT (Curcuma Domestica L) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN CANDIDA ALBICANS PADA PLAT RESIN AKRILIK

    Bahan pembersih gigi tiruan yang beredar di pasaran berasal dari bahan kimia buatan yang diketahui mempunyai efek samping. Oleh karena itu, pemanfaatan tanaman sebagai bahan obat herbal mulai dikembangkan. Salah satu alternative bahan pembersih gigi tiruan berasal dari tanaman herbal yaitu lengkuas putih mengandung fenol dan kunyit mengandung terpena. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui efektifitas ekstrak lengkuas putih (alpina galangal l stuntz var.alba) dan kunyit  (curcuma domestica l) terhadap pertumbuhan C.albicans pada plat resin akrilik.Metode penelitian berjenis experimental quasi. Sampel penelitian yang digunakan 30 cakram akrilik. Sampel dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok yaitu kelompok rendaman ekstrak lengkuas putih konsentrasi 30%, ekstrak kunyit konsentrasi 30% dan kelompok kontrol aquades steril. Masing-Masing perlakuan tersebut terdiri 10 cakram akrilik. Sebelum penelitian, cakram akrilik direndam 24 jam. Selanjutnya cakram akrilik direndam saliva buatan 1 jam dan dibilas dengan aqudes. Setelah dibilas, Lempeng akrilik dikontaminasi C.albicans 108 CFU/ml dan diinkubasi selama 24 jam pada suhu 370C, Kemudian masing- masing sampel direndam ekstrak lengkuas putih dan ekstrak kunyit selama 8 jam. Selanjutnya dilakukan pengeceran 10-3, diambil 0,1 ml tanam pada BHI dinkubasi 48 jam suhu 370C. Selanjutnya perhitungan C.albicans dengan colony counter. Adapun analisa data menggunakan uji One way anova selanjutnya data dianalisa LSD. Berdasarkan Uji One way anova didapatkan hasil nilai signifikansi 0,000 (p<0,05), sehingga data terdapat perbedaan bermakna antar kelompok. Dari uji LSD didapatkan nilai signifikansi masing- masing kelompok 0,000 (p<0,05) maka terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna antar masing- masing kelompok.Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Esktrak Lengkuas putih dan Ekstrak  Kunyit berpengaruh menghambat jumlah pertumbuhan C.albicans pada plat akrilik. Ekstrak lengkuas putih lebih menurunkan jumlah C.albicans pada plat akrilik dibanding ekstrak kunyit
