Heat Operators and Isometry Groups of Cuntz–Krieger Algebras
This paper introduces heat semigroups of topological Markov chains and Cuntz–Krieger algebras by means of spectral noncommutative geometry. Using recent advances on the logarithmic Dirichlet Laplacian on Ahlfors regular metric-measure spaces, we construct spectral triples on Cuntz–Krieger algebras from singular integral operators. These spectral triples exhaust odd K-homology and for Cuntz algebras we can compute their heat operators explicitly as Riesz potential operators. We also describe their isometry group in terms of the automorphism group of the underlying directed graph and prove that the Voiculescu noncommutative topological entropy vanishes on isometries
Exploring Islamic Public Administration : Ethnographic and Socio-Legal Approaches
This article aims to present and develop methodological tools and analytical insights for the empirical study of Islamic Public Administration (PA). To achieve this, it reviews some of the most common theoretical and analytical approaches in ethnography and socio-legal studies and highlights their relevance and contributions to research on Islamic PA. Specifically, it demonstrates how to (a) conduct ethnographic fieldwork on Islamic PA institutions and (b) analyze, conceptualize, and write about this type of ethnographic fieldwork within PA research. Theoretically, the article draws on socio-legal theories to construct a conceptual framework for analyzing living Islamic administrative traditions within local communities. The central argument is that employing ethnographic and socio-legal methods enables us to view Islamic PA as a living tradition, expressed through the mundane, everyday administrative practices and traditions found in various Muslim contexts. To substantiate this argument, the article presents empirical material from the author’s ethnographic study of Mahalla institutions in Uzbekistan, illustrating how to conduct and write about Islamic PA research in practice. By doing so, this chapter aims to illuminate theoretical and methodological aspects of ethnographic fieldwork, with the hope of inspiring new empirically oriented studies on Islamic PA
Declining activity of serum response factor in aging aorta in relation to aneurysm progression : Age-dependent attrition of the SRF regulon and aortopathy
Age is a critical determinant of arterial disease, including aneurysm formation. Here, to understand the impact of aging on the arterial transcriptome, we leveraged RNA-sequencing data to define transcripts that change with advancing age in human arteries. Among the most repressed transcripts in aged individuals were those that are relevant for actomyosin structure and organization, including both myosin light chain kinase (MYLK) and smooth muscle γ-actin (ACTG2). This was associated with a reduction of serum response factor (SRF), which controls these transcripts via defined promoter elements. To determine the consequences of isolated Srf depletion, we conditionally deleted Srf in vascular smooth muscle of young mice (i8-SRF-KO mice). This led to a reduction of the SRF regulon, including Mylk and Actg2, and impaired arterial contractility, but left endothelial-dependent dilatation unaffected. Srf-depletion also increased aortic diameter and Alcian blue staining of the aortic media, which are cardinal features of aortopathy, such as aortic aneurysmal disease. Despite this, i8-SRF-KO mice were protected from aortic lesions elicited by angiotensin II (AngII). Proteomics demonstrated that Srf-depletion mimicked a protein signature of AngII treatment involving increases of the mechanoresponsive transcriptional coactivators YAP and TAZ and reduction of the Hippo kinase Lats2. Protection from aortopathy could be overcome by changing the order of KO induction and AngII administration resulting in advanced aneurysms in both i8-SRF-KO and control mice. Our work provides important insights into the molecular underpinnings of age-dependent changes in aortic function and mechanisms of adaptation in hypertension

Trauma and Literature : Current Bibliotherapeutic Practices and Literary Trauma Studies in Sweden
This chapter presents a dual-purpose exploration of contemporary bibliotherapy and Shared reading practices in Sweden and Finland, focusing on their expansion and trends. Drawing from existing Nordic literature and research, as well as interviews with practitioners, the first part offers an overview of these evolving practices. This overview sets the stage for the second part, a dialogue with literary trauma studies, where the ethical dimensions of literary representations of trauma are being explored. The chapter aims to initiate a dialogue between the practical field of bibliotherapy and theoretical literary trauma studies, thereby enriching the understanding of the relationship between trauma, literature, and recovery. By probing the complexities of identification and empathy in bibliotherapy through a literary trauma studies lens, the chapter invites reflection on bibliotherapy practices and how literature and creative writing can facilitate healing

Hypoxic Burden is Associated with Cardiovascular Events : A Risk Stratification Analysis of the RICCADSA Cohort
BACKGROUND: The Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI), the standard measure of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), has limitations in reflecting disease severity.RESEARCH QUESTION: Is high hypoxic burden (HB) more strongly associated with major cardiovascular and cerebrovascular adverse events (MACCEs) than AHI≥ 30/h?STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: This secondary analysis of the RICCADSA observational cohort included 368 adults with OSA (AHI≥15/h), with (n=155) and without (n=244) excessive daytime sleepiness, defined as an Epworth Sleepiness Scale≥10. HB was calculated as the total area under respiratory event-related desaturations divided by total sleep time. Patients were classified as high or low HB based on the median (60.7%min/h). The primary outcome was the incident of the first MACCE. Cox proportional hazard models assessed associations in the full cohort and by CPAP allocation/adherence (nonadherent or no-PAP group: n=262; adherent [adjusted PAP usage≥ 4 h/night/all nights at 1-year follow-up]: n=106). In an exploratory analysis, participants were grouped into four categories based on median AHI and HB (low/low, low/high, high/low, high/high).RESULTS: Over a median follow-up of 4.7 years, high HB was associated with MACCEs (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 1.87; 95% CI 1.17-2.98; p=0.009), particularly among untreated or non-adherent patients and those with baseline EDS. AHI ≥30/h was not significantly associated with MACCEs (p=0.366). When modelled continuously, HB and AHI were each associated with MACCEs, respectively; however, compared to low AHI/low HB, only high HB, irrespective of AHI level, was linked to increased risk. In contrast, high AHI/low HB was not associated with MACCEs.INTERPRETATION: High hypoxic burden, but not AHI ≥ 30/h, was associated with MACCEs in adults with moderate to severe OSA. Although AHI was associated with outcomes when modelled continuously, elevated risk appeared to be driven primarily by high hypoxic burden
QUPER-MAn : benchmark-guided target setting for maintainability requirements
Maintainable source code is essential for sustainable development. Yet, many studies show that maintainability often receives less attention than it deserves. We argue that requirements engineering can help close this gap by fostering discussions and setting appropriate targets in a responsible manner. In this preliminary work, we explore industry practices related to requirements engineering for maintainability. Our findings confirm previous studies: maintainability remains a second-class quality concern. Explicit requirements often make sweeping references to coding conventions. Tools providing maintainability proxies are common but typically only used in implicit requirements related to engineering practices. To address this, we propose QUPER-MAn, a maintainability adaption of the QUPER model, originally developed for performance requirements. Developed using a design science approach, QUPER-MAn integrates maintainability benchmarks and supports target setting. We posit that it can shift maintainability from an overlooked development consequence to an actively managed goal driven by informed and responsible engineering decisions
