Identificatie van Agressieve Fenotypes in Peniscarcinoom: Nieuwe Inzichten en Tools om Gepersonaliseerde Behandelingen te testen

Penile cancer exhibits an aggressive clinical course marked by early lymphatic and visceral dissemination. However, efficacy of platinum-based regimens is extremely poor and resistance to these therapies develops rapidly. As a reference centre, we have the opportunity to collect sufficient patient samples to do meaningful research in this rare cancer. First, we want to gain a better insight in the molecular and genomic drivers of penile cancer and the distribution of targetable alterations in the genome and transcriptome. To complement this information we will set up a representative library of xenopatients in immunocompromised and immunocompetent mice which will be characterized to investigate whether they carry the same genomic and molecular fingerprints as the donor patients. These models will be employed to investigate the use of personalized targeted-therapy and immunotherapy combinations which may have the potential to improve outcomes and overcome platinum resistance. Tissue samples will be collected for biomarker development.status: Publishe

Alternative ways of organizing and responsible business

    No full text
This chapter assesses the extent to which various alternative organizational models support and embody the ideal of responsible business in ways that differ from conventional business forms. Responsible business is conceptualized here as avoiding negative social and environmental externalities (“doing no harm”) and generating positive externalities and public goods (“doing good”). Based on this framework, the potential and limitations of six widely discussed alternative models for fostering responsible business conduct are analyzed. Focusing on the organizational level, this chapter reviews cooperatives, state-owned enterprises, social enterprises, foundation-owned enterprises, democratically organized firms, and sharing economy business models. Through an examination of ownership models, stakeholder participation, and local embeddedness, some of the underlying mechanisms that enable responsible management practices within alternative organizations are highlighted and discussed.status: Publishe

Breathing Life into the Past Through Biofiction

    No full text
This interview with Romanian biofiction writer Florina Ilis discusses the challenges of fictionalizing the figure of 19th century poet Mihai Eminescu, the disputed centre of the Romanian literary canon. Cernat and Ilis address a wide range of contextual factors which have influenced Eminescu's canonization. They tackle questions like mythification versus mythography, metabiofiction, and the distinction between biofiction and biographie romancée in order to reach profound conclusions about the nature of Life Writing.sponsorship: Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek|1240823Nstatus: Accepte

Inzicht in vriesbekleding in non-ferrometallurgische processen door slakontwerp en experimentele studies

    No full text
This PhD studies the properties of freeze linings in nonferrous metallurgical processes. Freeze linings are layers of slag solidified on the inner walls of furnaces to protect them from the aggressive process conditions. They are able to renew themselves in case of a spalling or dissolution/melting event, contrarily to the more conventional refractory linings. However, their properties are strongly dependent on the slag chemistry, and it is not clear how an existing freeze lining will behave if the slag composition varies, for example in recycling processes. This PhD aims at answering two research questions: 1) Can we further develop the knowledge on the link between slag engineering and freeze lining properties? and 2) Can we predict and optimize the behavior of freeze linings during a change in slag composition? The objectives of this PhD are to 1) Present a state of the art on freeze linings properties and applications, 2) Generate fundamental insights on the formation and stability of freeze linings as a function of the slag composition, and 3) Study the impact of a change in slag composition on the freeze lining behavior. The experimental work is done in the SiO2-CaO-FeO-Al2O3 synthetic slag system. The results and discussions presented in the manuscript contribute to the general knowledge on freeze lining properties grown from an olivine, wollastonite, melilite, or spinel primary phase slag, while also investigating the impacts a changing slag composition and/or primary phase field can have on an existing freeze lining.status: Publishe

William of Ware on the Soul and Its Powers

    No full text
The chapter places William of Ware's discussion on the soul's powers into its late thirteenth century philosophical and theological context, including showing connections to John Duns Scotus' treatment of the same issue. The chapter includes as an appendix a working edition of Ware's I Sent. d. 3, q. 7, which is Ware's main text on the issue of the soul and its powers.sponsorship: KU Leuven IOF|C14/20/007status: Publishe
