Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles using Sustainable Manihot Esculenta Leaf Extract: Phytochemical Screening and Effect of Operational Parameters

    No full text
This research investigated the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles by means of Manihot esculenta leaf extracts through a bottom-up approach in a single-pot system. Investigations were conducted on the phytochemical analysis and optimization of temperature, volume ratio, concentration, reaction time, and other operational parameters. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy and FTIR analysis. Phytochemical screening of Manihot esculenta plant leaf extract showcased abundance of Saponins, flavonoids and trace number of triterpenes, tannins, alkaloids, and steroids. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of biomolecules functioning as reducing, stabilizing, and capping agents. This study highlighted the importance of various operational parameters in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The optimal experimental conditions identified—90-minute reaction time at room temperature, 0.01 M concentration, and a volume ratio of 2:8 (plant extract to Ag⁺ ion solution) produced clear and distinct surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peaks. UV-Vis was used to monitor the synthesis, and SPR was responsible for the maximum wavelength of 450 nm. The green synthesis approach provides a potentially scalable and sustainable means of producing silver nanoparticles using environmentally bening and sustainable material

A Bibliometric Review on Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) in Antimicrobial Agent Development in Africa (2019-2024)

    No full text
bstract—Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) remains a critical health and economic threat in Africa, exacerbated by infectious disease prevalence and limited access to novel therapeutics. Computer-aided drug design (CADD) presents a promising, cost-effective approach to accelerating antimicrobial development, particularly in resource-constrained settings. This bibliometric review investigates the landscape of CADD research in Africa between 2019 and 2024, aiming to quantify research productivity, evaluate collaboration networks, identify thematic trends, and expose systemic gaps. 1,561 Scopus-indexed documents were analyzed using Biblioshiny, an R Studio-based bibliometric tool. Results reveal a sharp annual growth rate of 243.32% in publication output, with South Africa, Egypt, and Nigeria emerging as dominant contributors. Co-authorship and institutional collaboration maps indicate strong but uneven regional networks, often relying on Global North partnerships. Thematic analyses emphasizemolecular docking and Escherichia coli, while innovative techniques like machine learning remain underutilized. Highly cited documents reflect Africa’s strength in ethnopharmacology and natural product-based drug discovery. However, gaps persist in translational research, regional inclusivity, and advanced computational integration. This study offers evidence-based insights to inform policy, strengthen research infrastructure, and catalyze Africa-led innovations for combating AMR

Utilization of Information Communication Technologies for Agricultural Marketing and Constraints among Youths in Oyo State, Nigeria

    No full text
This study investigated the utilization of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) for agricultural marketing among Youths in Oyo State, Nigeria. It examined respondents' socio-economic characteristics, awareness, utilization, and perceptions of ICTs, sources of agricultural marketing information, and constraints to effective ICT usage. Using a simple random sampling technique, data were collected from 84 respondents through structuredquestionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that most respondents (66.7%) were aged 40–49, predominantly male (58.3%), married (79.8%), and educated up to secondary level (73.8%). Over half (56%) earned annual incomes between ₦300,000–₦499,000, with marketing experience ranging from 10–12 years (57.1%). Mobile phones (94.1%) were the most utilized ICT tool, internet (23.8%) and social media (19%) were less frequently used. The study highlighted followed by radio (76.2%) and television (53.6%). However, moderate awareness (71.5%) and utilization (51.2%) levels of ICTs for agricultural marketing. Constraints included irregular power supply (95.2%), poor network service (92.9%),high data costs, and technical challenges. Chi-square and correlation analyses indicated significant relationships between ICT utilization and factors like education, produce type, buyers, age, household size, income, and perception. The study therefore recommends prioritizing rural electrification, reducing data costs, employing more extension agents, and promoting adult education to enhance ICT utilization for agricultural marketing. Keywords— Utilization, Agricultural Marketing, Youth Farmers, Technology Awareness, Market Acces

Nanoformulations and Plant Saline Stress Resistance

    No full text
The word nano-formulations are a composite form from nanotechnology. The latter is a term which connotes synthesis or design of structural materials into a minutest scale ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers (Bhardwaj et al. 2019; Fabiyi et al. 2020; Kumar et al. 2024a; Mariyam et al. 2024). Nanomaterials (NMs) metamor phosed from the use of these structural materials and are practically smaller in size even than the given scale above. There are a number of specific attributes that comes along with the use of these NMs; these ranges from relatively limited surface area, increasing reactivity as a result of its unnatural surface structure, chemical composi tion, shape and assemblage. There is need to situate the importance of food in any country as appropriate in this context before exploring nano-formulations further. Food is widely accepted as a basic necessity of life because it is absolutely essential for the maintenance and reproduction of human life (Verma et al. 2024)

Advancing Gluten-Free Noodle Development through Sustainable and Nutritional Interventions

    No full text
The gluten-free noodle (GFN) market is expanding due to gluten-related diseases, dietary preferences, and the increasing number of health-conscious consumers. However, the production of GFN of comparable quality to traditional wheat-based noodles in terms of texture, cooking quality, and sensory acceptability remains a chal lenge. Herein, a systematic overview of sustainable approaches to improved quality and consumer acceptance of GFN is highlighted based on the incorporation of functional ingredients such as bioactive compounds, dietary fibres, hydrocolloids, and starch blends that synergistically enhance cooking quality, nutritional contents, shelf life, and sensory attributes. This approach emphasizing the synergetic effect offers an alternative to processing methods that could lead to degradation of thermolabile compounds. Careful considerations on the effect of ingredient proportions, particle size, and moisture content on enhancing the shelf life and product stability of GFN are highlighted. Regulatory compliance and transparent labeling critical for minimizing misconceptions and fostering product integrity among consumers are delved into. Further studies should focus on the optimization of sensory attributes, extending shelf life, addressing global regulatory discrepancies, and tailoring products to diverse consumer preferences. By integrating these sustainable approaches, GFN can offer nutritious and healthy foods aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals
