Experiments have been designed by using completely randomized design with treatment consist of eight soybean varieties namely Anjasmoro, Panderman, Burangrang, Lawit, Argomulyo, Kaba, Tanggamus and Grobogan, with 3 replications. The parameters measured were: 1) Tickeness of pods skin, 2) trichome pods length; 3) trichome density of pods, 4) the attacks intensity; 6) plant resistance. Data analysis of the studies were performed using ANOVA on the significance level of 5 percent. The results showed that seven varieties of soybeas tested were tended to have the same length of pod trichome, and they did not have any strong correlation with attack intensity of pod sucking insect pest. In addition, the thickness of pod skin had a strong correlation with attack intensity, the ticker of pod skin, the lower of attack intensity. On the other hand, the density of pod trichome did not have any strong influence on attack intensity of pod sucking pest of soybea

Inclusive and Sustainable Management of Suboptimal Lands for Productive Agriculture in Indonesia

    No full text
There are uncountable research activities and technology development efforts have been carried out in Indonesia; however, very limited economically and/or socially beneficial technologies have been created. Very few indigenous technologies have been used in producing goods and providing services, including in agricultural sector. This problem is rooted on facts that most of the technologies developed are not relevant to real needs and/or problems of domestic farmers. Even if the technologies are substantially relevant; in many cases, they are not finacially affordable by domestic farmers, do not significantly increase profit if used, and/or less competitive compared to similar available technologies in the market. Limited availability of resources, at present and even more scarse in the future, elevates expectation on technology to contribute in establishing inclusive, productive, and sustainable agricultural development. To assure that developed technology will be relevant to the needs and contribute to agricultural development, farmers ought to be play significant active roles during priority setting, planning, and developing the technology. The real issues at present are increase in food demand as consequence of population growth and conversion of arable lands for uses in other sectors. These trends have led to intensifying agricultural activities on suboptimal lands. Efforts to increase agricultural productivity in suboptimal lands should not jeopardize sustainable function of the ecosystem and participation of local farmers. Sustainability and inclusivity should be maintained while increasing productivity. Traditional knowledge and local wisdom have to be treated as reference for developing technology for establishing productive agriculture on suboptimal lands

Plants get stressed shortly after submerged, to improve the recovery and subsequent metabolic processes as well as internal repairs required plant availability of adequate carbohydrate reserves after submerged. Giving fertilization treatment after being submerged is an effort to improve plant recovery after being submerged. This study was aimed to obtain the best fertilization to increase rice recovery to submergence stress through the fertilization after being submerged. The experimental design used was factorial completely randomized design with three replications. The factor consists of rice varieties (Inpara 3 dan IR 64) and treatment (N): Without soaking, basic fertilization (N1), submerged 7-14 DAP (fertilization of N, P2O5, K2O (N2), and fertilization of N, P2O5, K2O + (Si + Zn) (N3), as well as fertilization of N, P2O5, K2O + PPC micro (N4)) given 7 days after submerged, the submerged 7-14 and 28-35 DAP (N, P2O5, K2O (N5), and fertilization of N, P2O5, K2O + (Si + Zn) (N6) and fertilization of N, P2O5, K2O + PPC micro (N7)) given 7 days after the first submerged. The results showed that the growth and grain yield decreased with more frequent of rice plants in stress submerged condition. Fertilization can improve recovery after being submerged rice plants, where the best recovery obtained on varieties of rice plants treated with fertilization of N, P2O5 and K2O + PPC micro 7 days after being submerged
