    Mapping metacognitive awareness of Chinese language learners

    The role of metacognitive awareness on language teaching and learning have been confirmed by several studies, but the discussions of this topic in Chinese as foreign language are limited. The aim of the present research was to map metacognitive awareness profile of Chinese language learners. Total respondent of this research was 80 Chinese language learners (38 males and 42 females) which comprise secondary students. Convenience sampling technique was employed to select the respondents. Meanwhile, the metacognitive awareness data were collected utilizing Junior Metacognitive Inventory. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive statistic. Mann-Whitney U Test was employed to investigate the significance differences of metacognitive awareness between male and female. The findings showed that 46.25% of Chinese Language Learners have a good metacognitive knowledge, 28.75% fair, 20% very good, 3.75% poor, and 1.25% very lacking. The finding also showed that 40% students have good metacognitive regulation, 36.25% fair, 15% very good, 7.50% poor, and 1.25% very lacking. In addition, between male and female students have no significant difference in knowledge of cognition. On the contrary, regulation of cognition female learners (Mdn= 32.50) significantly (U= 551.000, p more than 0.05) better compared to male (Mdn= 30)

    The use of mind maps related to the four operations in primary school fourth-grade students as an evaluation tool

    The aim of the study was to determine the concepts that primary school fourth-grade students reveal with their mind maps related to four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and to compare the mind map and achievement test scores. In the study, a mixed method was used in which quantitative and qualitative data were collected and presented together. The study was carried out with a total of 14 students. There were eight girls and six boys, who studying in the fourth-grade of a primary school in Menteşe district of Muğla, in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. In the research, mind maps created for four operations and success test were used as data collection tools. The data collection process was carried out simultaneously. In the analysis of the data, qualitative data were transformed into the quantitative analysis, and quantitative analyzes were made. Concepts in mind maps created for four operations were subjected to qualitative analysis and photos were added as evidence. As a result of the research, it was determined that the majority of the students adopted the concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Besides, it was revealed that there was a high-level positive relationship between the scores of the students obtained from the achievement test and the scores from the mind maps they created. The evaluation made using the mind map for primary school fourth-grade students is more advantageous than the achievement test in terms of determining the conceptual understanding

    Intercultural education in Kosovo: A longitudinal case study

    This longitudinal qualitative study was conducted with Kosovo PhD students over a 3-year period who engaged in an ongoing intercultural education project at the University of Pristina’s Faculty of Education in Kosovo. The purpose of this article is to deepen the understanding of intercultural education with Kosovo as a critical case study. The data included pre-and post-open-ended surveys, one on one interviews, and follow up interviews regarding intercultural education during the longitudinal experiences. The findings of the study suggest the need to contextualize the issues of intercultural education and integrate local to global connections in relevant teaching, research, and service

    Comparison of curriculum implementation between public and private schools based on Adiwiyata

    The curriculum is the heart of education, whose job determines the life or death of a school. This study aimed to compare the implementation of Adiwiyata school curriculum between public and private school in junior high schools, especially in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data collection techniques by means of literature studies. Data analysis techniques were carried out with qualitative comparative analysis. The results showed that: public and private schools in junior high schools in Bantul Regency, had fulfilled the four main components of the Adiwiyata curriculum, in terms of objectives, content, methods, and evaluation. The implementation of Adiwiyata curriculum in each public and private school varies according to the characteristics and potential of each school

    A pedagogical framework of cross-cultural online collaborative projects in English as Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms

    Many researchers have focused on online collaborative learning, cross-cultural communication, project-based learning, digital literacy, and digital storytelling but there is no pedagogical framework that incorporates these elements for English as Foreign Language (EFL) teaching. This study based on the qualitative design established a pedagogical framework from three different types of cross-cultural collaborative projects with the collected data including students’ artifacts and project structures. We have found that the pedagogical framework proposed here serves as a guide to facilitate different types of cross-cultural projects in their classrooms. The multiple cases of cross-cultural online collaborative projects in an EFL class were taught according to the theories of project-based learning and content language integrated learning alike, proved to follow this pedagogical framework. Implementation is also described to give more details on how the projects were conducted. In the end, opportunities and challenges are provided for future implementation of online collaborative EFL projects

    Assessing the impediments to e-learning utilization by higher institution students

    This study assessed the impediments to e-learning utilization by higher institution students in Katsina State, Nigeria. Survey type of descriptive research design was used in the study. There were 381 students randomly selected in four higher institutions. A questionnaire with test-retest reliability coefficient of 0.88 was used to gather data from the respondents. The researchers used Frequencies, percentages, means and t-test to analyze the data collected for the study. Findings revealed that all the fifteen impediments investigated in this study affect the e-learning utilization by higher institution students in Katsina State, Nigeria in varying degrees. The foremost factor is money to purchase e-learning resources followed by limited electricity supply. Moreover, significant difference was not found in the impediments to e-learning utilization by higher institution students on the basis of gender (t=-.796, Df=397, P more than 0.05) but significant difference was found in the factors affecting the use of e-learning by students’ of Universities and Colleges of Education (t=-2.969, P less than 0.05). It was recommended that all the identified impediments affecting the e-learning utilization by higher institution students in Katsina State, Nigeria should be addressed by the government

    This study aimed to see Ahmad Dahlan's concept of educational thought and Ahmad Dahlan's concept of education in ordering Muhammadiyah student association (IPM) character. This study used a descriptive narrative qualitative research. The research was conducted at Muhammadiyah Kalibening Senior High School, Banjarnegara Regency. The research process was carried out using interview techniques, observation and documentation with data triangulation analysis techniques. The research analysis found that IPM activities lead to Ahmad Dahlan's educational thinking which can form disciplinary attitudes, responsibility, and have broad insights. IPM activities in this school are included in the school curriculum. Students who join the IPM will try to be introspective and discipline themselves in worship and social interactions. The activities of the Muhammadiyah Student Association are implemented in the applicable school curriculum

    The use of social media in the creation of personal learning environment during the #studyfromhome period

    Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Indonesia the Government urged students and lecturers to conduct the learning process from home through an online system called #studyfromhome. The architecture undergraduate students in this study were millennial students who used digital technology on a daily basis. This study was conducted to determine the role of social media, as well as millennial students’ preferences and feedback on the use of social media as learning tools to create a personal learning environment (PLE). Questionnaires were distributed online to students of Class of 2017 and 2018, out of whom 115 respondents provided their feedback. The results of the study showed that the students of the Architecture Study Program at Udayana University in Bali were fond of using social media especially audio-visual applications for learning activities. In addition, very positive feedback was also provided in terms of knowledge sharing and creativity, acquisition of information, and submission of assignments. Social media were considered more student-friendly. This condition was relevant to the characteristics of the millennial students who were independent learners, and facilitated the creation of PLE. Dealing with the new approach, the students hoped that social media could be used in a better manner as architecture learning platforms

    The effect of birth month and seasons on athlete aggression

    In this study, there were 3,335 football players from four continents from around the world formed a study universe in which the causes of athlete aggression. Also, the factors affecting athlete aggression were investigated with different variables. It has been observed that the levels of aggression of footballers are different according to the positions they play. As the number of matches that players participate in increases, aggression levels increase among the important results. A correlation was found between the ages of the footballers and their levels of aggression, but it was concluded that athletes born in December were more aggressive. Those born in January and those born in winter have shown minimal levels of aggression compared to other footballers. It has been interpreted as having higher levels of aggression, with football players born in December and winter receiving more penalties than other participants. In the continents where football players were born, the highest number of athlete aggression was observed in the participating football players from the continent of Europe, while the aggression of athletes born in the continent of Africa and Asia was found to be lower. Taking into account the data obtained from the research, it was concluded that the athlete's position, age, month, and season of birth and continent of birth are factors affecting athlete aggression

    Socio-cultural determinants of female students’ participation in school sports in Kogi State, Nigeria

    The decline in female participation in school sports is undesirable because of the fact that it is considered to be for boys only. It is in light of this, the study was carried out to examine socio-cultural determinants of female students’ participation in school sports in Kogi State, Nigeria. The population was 3,290 female students while 310 respondents were sampled for this study. Three hypotheses were postulated and tested using inferential statistics of Chi-square to analyze the data. Questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The findings show that gender, cultural and religious belief served as a significant determinant of female participation in sports. Based on the finding, it was concluded that both male and female students should be encouraged to develop right attitude towards sports participation in schools so as to enhance gender equality in sports. There is need to sensitize the general public through various agents of socialization on how to change the negative cultural belief of people towards female participation in sports
