Teachers’ commitment and leadership behavior as correlates of academic performance
This study examined the relationship between students’ academic performance, teachers’ commitment, and leadership behavior of school administrators. Teachers’ commitment was measured in two areas–commitment to job and commitment to organization and the leadership behavior of school administrators were evaluated in terms of consideration and initiating structure. Eighty-one teachers, 11 school heads, and 470 students served as respondents. The descriptive survey research technique, correlation analysis, and the following statistical methods were used: frequency, mean, standard deviation, and correlation coefficient. The study revealed that the initiating structure and consideration dimensions of leadership behavior affect teachers’ commitment to job (CTJ) and teacher’s commitment to organization (CTO). The correlation between CTJ and CTO and leadership behavior-initiating structure is positive and with leadership behavior-consideration negative. CTJ and CTO is correlated with the students’ academic performance in math, but not in Science and English. The correlation is negative. Students’ academic performance in all subject areas is negatively correlated with leadership behavior-initiating structure and has no significant relationship with leadership behavior-consideration. The leadership behavior-initiating structure is positively correlated with teachers’ commitment to both job and organization but has negative correlation with students’ academic performance in math, science, and English
The Indonesian version of volunteer functions inventory: Its validity and reliability
The volunteer function inventory (VFI) is an assessment tool to measure individual volunteer motivation. VFI measures individual motivation to volunteer by examining the functional motives of each volunteer. This research aimed to adapt the VFI to the Indonesian language. VFI consists of 30 items divided into five dimensions. This study utilized a non-experimental quantitative research method. Samples were acquired by accidental random sampling with N = 176. In this study, reliability testing was carried out with items and dimensions of Cronbach's α. Validity tests were examined using construct validity and item analysis. The results of the Indonesian version of VFI showed high reliability and validity. Besides, the item analysis also shows that the quality of each item is excellent. The Indonesian version of VFI will be suitable for various education fields in Indonesia to measure the students' voluntary willingness in community development activities, for example, in measuring the impact of volunteerism in the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) social activities and other activities within the communities
Readiness and efforts of civics teachers in developing literacy and numeracy skills
This research aimed to assess the readiness and efforts of civics teachers in developing literacy and numeracy skills. For data collection, qualitative methods including surveys and interviews, were employed. A total of 38 civics teachers from junior high schools in Pacitan Regency, Indonesia were selected based on gender, teaching experience, and certification. The data was analyzed using both qualitative narrative and quantitative descriptive analysis, employing percentages. The results showed that civics teachers demonstrated moderate proficiency in literacy skills, while their numeracy abilities were considered sufficient. In addition, teachers exhibited a greater readiness for literacy-oriented learning compared to numeracy. The efforts made by teachers encompassed four aspects, namely i) collaborating with colleagues and implementing student-centered collaborative learning, ii) developing a culture of literacy and numeracy through training and discussions, iii) seeking out learning resources and media that supported literacy and numeracy, and iv) promoting reading, annotating texts, and analyzing numeracy-related readings
Islamic moderation in elementary school: strengthening the Aswaja Annadhliyah curriculum in preventing religious radicalism
This action research aims to improve teachers’ ability to enrich, redesign, develop, and test the ahlussunah waljamaah (Aswaja) Annahdliyah curriculum in strengthening Islamic moderation in 25 madrasah ibtidaiyah (Islamic elementary schools) in Kedu Caresidenan, Central Java, Indonesia. The method used was participatory action research modeled by Stephen Kemmis, Robin McTaggart, and Rhonda Nixon, an experimental type of action research. The research findings state that Islamic moderation through strengthening the Aswaja Annahdliyah curriculum is carried out by enriching and redesigning the curriculum in the aspects of objectives, content/materials, methods/activities, and assessment/evaluation. The form of strengthening the Aswaja Annahdliyah curriculum is carried out by developing a curriculum by providing material on the basic principles of Aswaja, Ukhuwah Nahdliyah, and Mabadi Khaira Ummah in the aspects of fikrah (thought), aqidah (belief), harakah (movement), and amaliyah (worship practices). As a result, teachers know the depth and breadth of the curriculum in terms of objectives, content, methods, and evaluation at the level of fikrah, aqidah, harakah, and amaliyah, determining basic competencies, operational verbs, materials, material enrichment, and selecting appropriate learning models, methods, strategies, and media. Future research needs to explore curriculum strengthening for Aswaja Annahdliyah at the high school or university level
Sekolah penggerak program: a comparative case study in Indonesia’s elementary school context
The main reason for the research significance is misconceptions arising in the field when implementing Sekolah Penggerak Program, which started in 2021. Thus, the objectives of this study are to describe programs for enhancing exceptional human resources, and to explore the Kurikulum Operasional Satuan Pendidikan (education unit operational curriculum), and the Merdeka Curriculum learning. Four elementary schools in Indonesia's urban and rural areas served as the research unit for analysis, which used a qualitative comparative case study design. The results demonstrate that the programs of ministry of education, culture, and technology research for improving human resources, which includes training and mentoring, have a favourable effect on both rural and urban primary schools. However, only one out of four schools examined the context of the educational unit while creating education unit operational curriculum documents, and every school simply used education unit operational curriculum as a prerequisite for administrative fulfilment. Based on the available components, all teachers developed teaching modules for the Merdeka Curriculum. It was found, nevertheless, that the students were not genuinely exposed to the content of these modules
Problem-based learning with iSpring assisted inquiry method on critical thinking skills
Student’s critical thinking skills that are currently still low are important to develop because they affect the way students think in solving problems. The problem-based learning model with the inquiry method used to help improve student’s critical thinking skills. The iSpring learning media used can help students understand the material. The research results were obtained from the output of the paired sample t-test, a significance value 0.05, so it was concluded that there was a difference between before applying the learning model and after applying the learning model. The results of the questionnaire responses to the media also resulted in positive responses from students
Vodcast embedded with physics education technology simulation in learning projectile motion
The challenge of creating reliable technology-based resources for science learning is perennial challenge in Philippine education with the limited learning materials accessible to all learners. This study is about the development of vodcast embedded with physics education technology (PhET) simulation that served as a supplementary learning material for grade 9 Science in response to the scarcity of dependable visualization materials. The study employed the developmental research design with analysis-design-development-implementation-evaluation (ADDIE) model as the developmental framework. Vodcast evaluation tool, achievement test questionnaire, and vodcast perception survey questionnaire for students and for teachers were used in the data collection while the Kendall’s W statistic, mean, percentage, and gain score were used in data interpretation. The teacher respondents (N=64) have moderate agreement on the ranking of topic difficulty with Kendall’s W of 0.45. The researcher-made vodcast attained an overall rating of 4.78 from experts which implies that the vodcast can be a very good material for classroom implementation. The developed achievement test has acceptable difficulty and discrimination indices. The implementation stage yielded low normalized gain and can be accounted by unfocused attention during the pandemic. Nevertheless, the vodcasts were found very useful in learning projectile motion as perceived by both students and teacher-observers

The test instrument questions were analyzed using the gain score and Kruskal-Walli’s test to determine the increase in historical concept skills and historical awareness with the help of statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) 26. The research results confirmed that digital history based PjBL was effective in increasing historical concept skills and historical awareness with a high score, making it the best choice to overcome obstacles in history learning
EFL teachers’ student-centered pedagogy and assessment practices: challenges and solutions
The fact that English teachers encounter challenges while employing student-centered pedagogy and assessment practices is beyond argument. Empirical evidence indicates that, particularly in the context of Najran University, relatively little attention has been paid to researching the issue and offering solutions to coping with it. Consequently, this study examined English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers’ employment of student-centered pedagogy and assessment practices in the Saudi EFL context concerning execution, challenges, and solutions. Also, it correlated the respondents’ answers with their gender, experience, degree, and specialization. The descriptive survey design was used to achieve the study objectives. The study tools, a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were applied to a convenient sample of (73) faculty members. The results showed that the study sample highly employs pedagogy and assessment practices focused on students. In addition, the demographic variables of gender, experience, degree, and specialization did not have any significant role in affecting the responses to employing pedagogy and assessment practices. Finally, the content analysis of the semi-structured interview revealed the challenges and solutions to employing pedagogy and assessment practices. In light of the current results, the researchers proposed recommendations and implications
