The effect of reading-concept mapping-reciprocal teaching on students’ communication skills
Communication skills are one of the abilities required for 21st-century learning. Students must consider communication skills in learning because they can guide students in conveying ideas effectively and interacting and collaborating with others. This study aimed to investigate the online reading-concept mapping-reciprocal teaching (REMAP-RT) learning model on students' oral and writing communication skills. The pretest-posttest control group design was employed in this study with three Biology Education study program classes at the State Islamic University in Tulungagung, Indonesia. This study included 89 students separated into three classrooms, each learning using one of three methods: i) REMAP-RT, ii) reciprocal teaching (RT), and iii) discussion-presentation. A questionnaire was used to assess students' oral and written communication skills. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to compare differences in communication skills among the three treatment groups based on the questionnaire responses. The research findings revealed that students' oral and writing communication abilities improved across the board, with students in the REMAP-RT class showing the most substantial increase. This result of the research suggests that REMAP-RT improves students' oral and written communication skills in online learning

The effect of culture-based mathematics learning instruction on mathematical skills: a meta-analytic study
Culture-based mathematics learning (C-bMLI) has emerged as a promising approach to improving students' mathematical skills, yet previous research presents inconsistent findings regarding its efficacy compared to conventional methods. To address this gap, a meta-analytic study is needed to consolidate and present the latest insights regarding the impact of C-bMLI on students' mathematical skills. It also aimed to discern the factors influencing the effectiveness of C-bMLI implementation. Datasets were collected from primary studies published in internationally recognized journals or proceedings. By rigorously adhering to inclusion criteria, a collection of 45 effect sizes from 25 primary studies was identified. The results of this analysis, conducted using the random-effects approach, produced a substantial combined effect size of and . The evidence unequivocally substantiated that the employment of C-bMLI significantly contributed to the mathematical process, standing as a superior alternative to conventional learning methodologies. The results of the heterogeneity analysis of the moderator variables showed that factors such as the type of skills, educational tiers, country, publication year, and the variant of C-bMLI contributed to the observed variance, The variable of sample size did not exert a discernible impact on the effectiveness of the learning model
Practices of intercultural competence teaching: an autobiographical study at aviation English classroom
The practice of intercultural teaching seems to be commonly applied but not in aviation English class. This might be difficult in conceptualizing intercultural competence instructional model (ICCIM) due to the mandatory adaptation to aviation English materials. This autobiographical study aimed to describe how the researcher conducted intercultural competence (ICC) teaching in aviation English class along with the depiction of students’ reflective constructs. This study was undertaken in Politeknik Penerbangan Surabaya as one of state aviation schools under agency of human resource development on transportation. The researcher found that the ICCIM could be implemented in aviation English class with some challenges. Another finding showed that the students were interested in learning ICC materials. This autobiographical study implies that there needs further research in examining ICCIM in aviation English class with wider cultural exposures and practices to give aviation students wider cultural perspectives before they work in the field of aviation
Gendered pictorial in Indonesian EFL textbook “When English rings the bells”
Sustainable development goal (SDG) 4 and 5 prioritize equal opportunities for all genders and socioeconomic backgrounds to get education. Textbook shapes students' perspectives on gender roles and possibilities for themselves and others thus playing a pivotal role in promoting equality and diversity in education. However, certain English as a foreign language (EFL) textbooks still uphold such biases in their content and images. Thus, this study aimed at describing the gender pictorial in the EFL textbook “When English rings the bells”. Applying textual along with multimodal analysis, this study analyzes the textbook following Pierce’s semiotics. Providing an in-depth analysis of how gender is represented, this study discovered that the textbook still perpetuates gender stereotypes in three areas: i) pictorial of the characters, ii) gender attributes, and iii) traditional roles. It also makes efforts to break these stereotypes by portraying diverse professions and activities. Hence, it may be inferred that the textbook made an effort to analyze and dismantle the notion of gender, yet ultimately reinforced existing preconceptions. It suggests that students can be encouraged to challenge traditional gender roles and aspire to a broader range of careers and life choices by promoting more diverse representations of males and females in textbooks
Improving student’s virtue character through the perryso dialogue model
The results of needs assessments for a number of universities show that virtuous character behavior shows a number of problems that require efforts by universities to carry out massive and planned virtuous character education movements.
