Basic communication skills are primary modalities for the counselor and should be developed from their preservice education. In Indonesia, most guidance and counseling major provide the basic communication skills course as a hybrid course, containing both theoretical and practical learning. This model had many challenges in making a balanced outcome for both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This research aims to test the bingo-keterampilan dasar komunikasi (KDK) as an integrated learning strategy of bingo games, reverse role-play, and reflection sessions to improve preservice counselors’ basic communication skills. This research used a quantitative method with a randomized control trial (RCT) experiment design. This research involved 56 preservice counselors, divided randomly into experiment and control groups. The measurement used is the performance test of the basic communication skills course. Data analysis focused on measuring basic statistics and t-tests. The results show the experiment group has higher results and is significantly different from the control group. This effectiveness was supported by the learning atmosphere that indirectly increased the involvement of the preservice counselor. This research suggests exploring the mental experience and performance measurement during the learning sessions using the bingo-KDK game

This study aims to determine the predominant motivation among users of the vocational training for employment (VTE) system and to discern whether there are differences according to socio-demographic traits such as gender, age, and employment status. Motivation is a factor that has to be taken into account during any teaching-learning process. The students' interest in the practice and contents will be key for their educational development and the attainment of achievements for their incorporation into the labor market. We carried out a quantitative study based on the survey technique. The sample is obtained through a deliberate sampling, obtaining a total of 390 participants (38.2% of men and 61.8%) involved in training processes at the time of the study or recently completed. The results reveal that the rates of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are high, especially the former. This indicates that users participate in training guided by the personal satisfaction they perceive, as well as by the feeling of usefulness of what they learn for its transfer to everyday life

The alternative learning system senior high school (ALS SHS) practiced flexible learning as its learning modality to give more opportunities and convenience making the program more inclusive and responsive to learners’ needs. It also ensures that learners adhere to instructional competence and self-regulated learning (SRL). However, there is a lack of evidence under the program about the dissection of SRL. Hence, this sequential explanatory mixed method research aimed to evaluate SRL vis-à-vis the weaknesses and challenges encountered by ALS SHS learners enrolled in one public senior high school (SHS) in the City of Meycauayan, Bulacan. The findings showed that most respondents were early and middle adults, female, and currently working and demonstrated an observable SRL. There is a significant difference in SRL among learners when the profile is considered. The challenges encountered are focused on strategic academic planning and goal setting, preparedness and awareness in SRL, and support groups. The proposed capacity-building program aimed to offset the challenges encountered and improve the SRL of ALS SHS learners.
