Effect of Apple Consumption on Postprandial Blood Glucose Levels in Normal Glucose Tolerance People versus Those with Impaired Glucose Tolerance
Get PDFThe present study investigated the effect of apple consumption on postprandial blood glucose and insulin levels in subjects with normal versus impaired glucose tolerance. The study participants were ten healthy subjects with no glucose intolerance (normal subjects) (mean, 24.4 ± 4.8 years) and nine subjects with impaired glucose tolerance (mean, 45.2 ± 11.1 years, including 2 on insulin therapy). The test meal included white rice (148 g) and a Fuji apple (150 g). The normal subjects were randomly divided into two groups: the apple-first group, wherein the subjects consumed white rice 5 min after consuming the apple, and the rice-first group, wherein the subjects consumed an apple 5 min after consuming the white rice. Blood samples were then taken from both groups for 3 h. In addition, the subjects with impaired glucose tolerance received the same treatment as the normal subjects, with the difference being glucose level monitoring according to the order in which the apples were consumed. In the normal subjects, the Cmax of Δblood glucose and Δinsulin levels were 54.0 ± 5.0 mg/dL and 61.9 ± 7.2 µU/dL versus 46.2 ± 5.9 mg/dL and 49.8 ± 8.5 µU/dL in the rice-first and apple-first groups, respectively. The incremental area under the curve (iAUC) of insulin tended to decrease in the apple-first group. In the impaired glucose tolerance subjects, the Cmax of Δblood glucose was 75.2 ± 7.2 mg/dL in the apple-first group compared to 90.0 ± 10.0 mg/dL in the rice-first group, which was a significant difference (p < 0.05). The iAUC of blood glucose was lower in the apple-first group. Eating an apple before a meal may be a simple and effective strategy for managing the glycaemic response in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance.Article No.1803. Nitric oxide and Insulin Resistance: An overview
Get PDFThe aim of this review are to discusses the mechanisms by which insulin resistance develops in the presence of increased adiposity, to summarize the causative relationship between impaired NO bioavailability and insulin resistance, and also to show the implications of life-style changes to prevent insulin resistance. Obesity with increased visceral adiposity is an inflammatory condition that leads to insulin resistance. Because the insulin signalling pathway is linked to endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activation, insulin resistance is always associated with decreased nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability. Recently, accumulating evidence has suggested that physical exercise and dietary nitrate/nitrite diets rich in vegetables improve insulin resistance by enhancing NO bioavailability, and thus provide potential preventive and therapeutic options for these patients with insulin resistance.ISBN：978-93-5547-807-8 (Print) 978-93-5547-808-5 (eBook) The licensee is the publisher (B P International)
Social Influence of Judicial Precedents Concerning Human Rights and Intermediate Organizations : The Trend of Arguments for the Legal System for LGBT as a Case
Get PDF本稿は，LGBTをめぐる制度議論の動向を事例に取り上げ，法曹界の動きをとおして「中間組織」「公共性」「制度」について考察した。まず，コロナ禍における法曹界の趨勢を日本弁護士連合会と各地域の弁護士会に分けて人権問題への取り組み姿勢について概観し，人権と権利の諸相および権利の生成過程における裁判の役割について論じた。次に，LGBTをめぐる問題を世に問うた初の裁判事例となった「東京都府中青年の家事件」に焦点を当て，この裁判をとおして制度設計における中間組織の役割について議論した。そして，「東京都府中青年の家事件」以降のLGBT関連の裁判事例や中間組織の設立，法制度の整備を歴史的に観察し，その関連性を検討した。結論として，1）情報化社会における民主的討議の実現方法を探る試みとして， LGBTをめぐる議論を法曹界の活動と関連付けて観察・分析し，中間組織の持つ知見と有資格専門職能者とのつながりがもたらす新しい制度ニーズのアジェンダ化機能を制度設計に活かすこと，2）こうしたアジェンダ化機能は，人びとが熟議する場の実現が困難な状況において，共感（スミス）や共同善（ベラー）の醸成に資する手段となる可能性があること，3）民主主義の価値観が相対化され権威主義的支配の有効性も論じられる社会状況において，情報化社会ならではのリアルとオンラインを統合した公共性の意義と確立についてあらためて熟考する必要があること，を指摘した。This paper took up the trend of arguments for the legal system for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender（LGBT）as a case and examined "intermediate organizations," "publicness, " and "Institutions" through the movement of legal circles. We investigated attitudes toward tackling human rights issues by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and the bar association in each judicial district and examined the role of trials in various aspects of human rights and the process of establishing rights. Next, we focused on the Fuchu Youth House Rental Refusal in Tokyo, which was the first court case to appeal to the publicon LGBT issues and discussed the role of intermediate organizations in institutional design through this court case. We then reviewed historical court cases related to LGBT after the Fuchu Youth House Rental Refusal, the establishment of intermediate organizations, and the development of legal systems. Subsequently, we examined the relationships among these three areas. The results are as follows:（1）to realize democratic discussion in the information society, debates on LGBT must be examined and analyzed in conjunction with the activities of legal circles, and the function of setting the needs of a new system generated from the connection between knowledge held by intermediate organizations and those held by qualified professionals, as an agenda must be utilized in institutional design;（2）this agenda setting function may become the means to foster sympathy（A.Smith）and common good（R.Bellah）, when a place for people to deliberate is difficult to realize; and（3）under the social circumstances in which democratic values have been relativized and the effectiveness of authoritarian control has been argued, the importance of establishing publicness, in which real and virtual worlds are merged through the Internet in the information society, must be reconsidered.論文 / Article
Effectiveness of Educations on Art Museum Exhibition Activities
Get PDF城西大学は埼玉県内で唯一美術館を有する大学である。リベラルアーツ教育やアクティブラーニングが注目される現在，美術館を教育の中に位置づけることで有効な学びの場を生み出せると期待される。2021年夏，筆者は琉球国の王城であった首里城をテーマにした展示を企画し，学生たちと運営するゼミ活動を行った。そしてこの活動が学生たちにどの様な教育効果を及ぼしたのか，アンケート調査を実施した。結果，学生たちの半数以上がこの活動の内容，教育効果を認めており，歴史文化的知識の深まりとコミュニケーション能力の獲得に効果が認められた。Josai University is the only university in Saitama Prefecture with an art museum. With the current focus on liberal arts education and active learning, Education at the museum will be an effective learning experience. In the summer of 2021, I planned an exhibition of Shuri Castle, the royal castle of Ryukyu Kingdom, and managed this exhibition with my seminar students. As a result of the questionnaire survey of my seminar students, more than half of them acknowledged the educational content and effect of this activity, especially could deepen their knowledge of history and culture and acquire communication skills.教育実践研究 / Educational Practice Researc
