    Real-time Recyclable Waste Detection Using YOLOv8 for Reverse Vending Machines

    Increasing challenges in waste management necessitate optimizing the efficiency of recycling systems. Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) offer a promising solution by incentivizing recycling through user rewards. However, inaccurate waste detection methods hinder the effectiveness of RVMs. This study explores the potential of the YOLOv8 deep learning algorithm to enhance real-time waste classification accuracy in RVMs. We propose a YOLOv8-based framework for real-time detection of seven key recyclable materials. The model is trained on a combined dataset comprising the public TrashNet dataset and a study-specific dataset tailored to materials and variations encountered in RVMs. Performance evaluation metrics include F1-score, precision, recall, and PR curves.Results demonstrate the superior performance of the YOLOv8-based approach compared to other popular deep learning algorithms, including YOLOv5, YOLOv7, and YOLOv9. The YOLOv8 model achieves an accuracy rate of over 97%, significantly outperforming other algorithms. This improvement translates into enhanced recycling efficiency and reduced misclassification errors in RVMs. This research contributes to the development of more sustainable waste management systems by improving the efficiency and accuracy of RVMs. The YOLOv8-based framework presents a promising solution for real-time waste detection in RVMs, paving the way for more effective recycling practices and reduced environmental impact

    Raspberry Pi 4 and Ultrasonic Sensor for Real-Time Waste Classification and Monitoring with Capacity Alert System

    The problem of waste management creates daily rubbish buildup due to thorough sorting. garbage sometimes accumulates in public garbage receptacles due to officials' ignorance of bin capacity and collectors' schedules, causing unclean conditions and the development of deadly diseases. Internet of Things technology was used to create a smart waste classification system with a notification mechanism in this study. This system classifies waste into plastic, metal, B3, and organic using a Raspberry Pi 4, camera module, and deep learning model. The classification uses a Convolutional Neural Network to speed up waste processing and separation. This research can be linked with research on separating trash types in one container and then allocated to garbage bins by type. Ultrasonic sensors and Raspberry Pi 4 can continuously monitor waste levels by sending data to the Ubidots IoT platform over HTTP. Based on experimental device data, system analysis shows 90% classification accuracy for all four waste categories. A Wireshark network analysis showed 61,098 bytes/s of throughput, 16 ms of delay, and zero data loss, demonstrating the system's ability for real-time monitoring and alerting. This research provides a realistic, cost-effective, and minimal solution to improve garbage classification and reduce collection costs to promote sustainability

    Personal Responsibility Correlation in View of Self-Regulated Learning and Learning Autonomy University Students

    As explained, personal responsibility is an individual's skills in taking responsibility for all decisions and actions and the results and impacts on others. A sense of responsibility can affect student academic achievement, so having a sense of personal responsibility, especially in the learning process, becomes important. Personal or personal responsibility can be developed through self-regulated learning and learning autonomy. So, this study aims to determine whether there is a correlation between personal responsibility with self-regulated learning and learning autonomy. The method used in this study is quantitative with a correlational type of research involving 141 students from semester 2 to semester ten aged 18 to 24 years. The data collection technique uses three instruments (personal responsibility, self-regulated learning, and autonomy learning). This study's results indicate a correlation between the three variables, namely personal responsibility, self-regulated learning, and autonomy learning (p> 0.000). The existence of this relationship shows that it is important for students to cultivate personal responsibility so that they can manage the learning process without depending on others (independently)

    National legal interventions in overcoming underage marriages in indigenous communities

    Introduction to The Problem: Marriage is everyone's right. However, the phenomenon that occurs is the practice of underage marriage, this also occurs in the indigenous community of the Orang Laut tribe in Lingga Regency.Purpose/Objective Study: The aim of this research is to analyze the regulation of national law and customary law in dealing with underage marriage in the Orang Laut tribal community and to find a concept of legal harmonization that can resolve the practice of underage marriage.Design/Methodology/Approach: The research method used is empirical juridical. The type of data sourced from primary data is through observation and interviews as well as primary data. The basic theories used are the Theory of Legal Work and the Theory of Development Law.Findings: The results of the research state that there is a regulatory inconsistency between marriage law and child protection law. The marriage law allows for underage marriages by applying for dispensation, while Article 26 of the child protection law strictly stipulates that parents are obliged to prevent child marriages from occurring. And there is a culture of "reciprocation" which is the basis for the Sea People tribe to perpetuate the practice of underage marriage. In fact, marriages are only carried out through traditional ceremonies and according to their respective religions without applying for dispensation to the court. This means that the marriage carried out is only valid according to custom and religion and is not legally valid. Therefore, it is necessary to harmonize the law with an institutional approach in overcoming the phenomenon of underage marriage in the indigenous people of the Orang Laut tribe, Lingga Regency.Paper Type: Research Articl

    Pengaruh Penerapan Pendekatan Matematika Realistik Indonesia Terhadap Pemahaman Konsep Matematika Siswa Di Sekolah Dasar

    Rendahnya pemahaman konsep matematika disebabkan oleh siswa yang masih banyak mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal sesuai dengan konsepnya. Tujuan pada penelitian ini untuk melihat pengaruh diterapkannya Pendekatan Matematika Realistik Indonesia terhadap pemahaman konsep matematika siswa yang diajarkan di kelas dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SD Negeri Waru 05 Kec. Parung Kab. Bogor pada tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode kuantitatif bentuk Posttest-Only Control Group Design. Subjek pada penelitian ini sebanyak 54 siswa diantaranya 27 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 27 siswa kelas kontrol. Cluster random sampling merupakan teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes essay sebanyak 12 butir soal. Hasil penelitian dapat terlihat dari hasil perhitungan dengan uji-t Independent samples test dengan memperoleh taraf signifikansi sebesar 0,003 < 0,05 maka Ho ditolak dan HI diterima. Selain itu, dibuktikan juga dengan hasil perhitungan yang diperoleh dari thitung sebanyak 3,080 lebih besar dari ttabel 1,703 artinya terdapat pengaruh diterapkannya Pendekatan Matematika Realistik Indonesia terhadap pemahaman konsep matematika siswa yang diajarkan di kelas II dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran konvensional di SD Negeri Waru 05 Kecamatan Parung

    Psychological capital and work engagement among strawberry generation employees

    Organizations require energetic and dedicated employees to achieve their goals through work engagement. Work engagement can be influenced by the unique characteristics of the strawberry generation, especially when combined with psychological capital. This study aims to determine the impact of psychological capital (self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resiliency) on work engagement among strawberry generation employees. The research employs a quantitative method, measured using the Psychological Capital Questionnaire 24 (PCQ-24) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale 17 (UWES-17). The population used in this study consists of employees in Indonesia, from which 227 samples were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study are: (1) there is no effect of self-efficacy on work engagement among strawberry generation employees, (2) there is a positive effect of optimism on work engagement among strawberry generation employees, (3) there is a negative effect of hope and resiliency on work engagement among strawberry generation employees, and (4) there is a positive effect of psychological capital on work engagement among strawberry generation employees

    Combination of Spirulina platensis powder and Stichopus variegatus powder against Bcl2 expression in the hippocampus of dementia Rats

    Spirulina (Spirulina platensis) and golden sea cucumber (Stichopus variegatus) are known to have antioxidant activity that has the potential to prevent neurodegeneration disease. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the combination of spirulina and golden sea cucumber on Bcl2 gene expression in pyramidal hippocampus cells of trimethyltin-induced dementia (TMT) rats. The study used Sprague Dawley rats  which were divided into 6 groups, namely the normal control group (CMC-Na and NaCl 0.9%), pain control (CMC-Na and TMT), positive control (citicoline dose 200 mg / kg and TMT) and test control injected with TMT and given a combination of spirulina and golden sea cucumber dose 200 mg/KgBB with three ratios namely 3: 1, 1: 1 and 1: 3. Extract and citicoline were given on day 1 to day 28, while TMT injection was given a single dose of 8 mg/KgBB on day 8. On the 36th day the rats were sacrificed, brains were removed and the right hemispherium cerebri was fed to 10% formalin in pbs. After 6 days the hippocampus was separated for immunohistochemical observation. The test result data was statistically analyzed with a one-way ANOVA test then followed by post hoc tukey to see the differences between groups. Results showed the combination of spirulina and golden sea cucumber can increase the expression of the Bcl2 gene in the hippocampus. The combination of spirulina and golden sea cucumber (ST1: 3) dose of 200 mg / kg body weight was able to increase hippocampus Bcl2 expression with the number of Bcl2 cell expression almost the same as citicoline in both CA1 and CA2-CA3 regions

    In silico study of the essential oil compounds of ginger and thyme on Coronavirus-2 receptors

    Coronavirus-2 (SARS-Cov-2) is a virus that attacks the respiratory system and causes the Covid-19 pandemic. After the pandemic, prevention and appropriate therapy research continue to be carried out to anticipate the emergence of more dangerous viruses. In line with the culture of consuming herbs that has arisen due to the effects of the pandemic, in this study, an insilico screening was carried out for essential oil compounds produced by ginger and thyme herbs which have been widely consumed by the public. The aim of the research was to find the essential oil content that has the most potential as an antiviral against coronavirus-2. The research method was carried out in silico, including ligand preparation, receptor and method validation, and analysis of ligand-receptor binding interactions using the AutoDoc 4.2.6 program. As a comparison, a study was conducted on remdesivir and favipiravir, which have been used as antivirals. The three components that have the most potential based on the calculation of the free energy value, were determined by the ADMET parameters using the Admet lab 2.0 program. The results showed that the three components in the essential oil exhibited better interactions when compared to remdesivir and favipiravir at the 3-Cl protease and spike glycoprotein receptors. The results of the insilico study and ADMET prediction test showed that of the three most potent compounds, lamda-farnesen was the most potent and safe to us

    Development of standardized kaffir lime fruit peel extract as a gel for antioxidant and anti-acne

    This study aimed to determine the effect of increasing the concentration of the condensed extract of kaffir lime fruit peel in a gel dosage form on its physical quality and effectiveness. The condensed extract was obtained by maceration with 95% ethanol as a solvent. The dosage form chosen is a hydrophilic-based gel with a modification of the addition of a penetrant enhancer (IPM) and a solubilizer (Glycerin). The concentration of the condensed extract of kaffir lime fruit peel used were F1 (10%), F2 (15%), and F3 (20%). Gel preparations were tested for physical quality and effectiveness, consisting of antioxidant activity (IC50) and antibacterial (Zone Inhibition). Furthermore, the One Way ANOVA statistical method will analyze data from parametric experiments between batches and between formulas. If there is a significant difference in the statistical analysis between the formulas, then the test is continued using the Tukey Post-Hoc test method. The experimental results showed that increasing the concentration of kaffir lime peel extract (Citrus hystrix) affected the pH value, viscosity, dispersion, and effectiveness as an anti- acne and antioxidant. It was concluded that the anti-acne gel of extract F1, F2, and F3 were physically stable during storage, and based on the physical quality and effectiveness test it was known that F3 had the greatest zone inhibition (ZI): 13.87 ± 0.18 mm and IC50 :14.9049 mg/m
