Gandrung Banyuwangi: Kontestasi dan Representasi Identitas Using
The article wants to emphasize contestation among authorities in understanding gandrung as identity construction that increased since 2000 until 2005. Blambangan Art Council and bureaucracy, for example, tried to increase Using identity through political policies. By using hegemony perspective, especially in the concept of contestation among residual, dominant, and emergent culture, I will analyze (1) the process of the contestation for gandrung among bureaucracy, santri, and capitalist in the context of representation of Using identity based on socio-cultural powers of each authority in particular times and spaces and (2) the power position of each authority in crafting hegemony towards gandrung. As something constructed, cultural identity is discursive, fractured, and dynamic based on times and spaces. Representation of Using identity is a battle-field in a cultural political project
Analisis Kontrastif Perspektif Bahasa dan Budaya terhadap Distingsi Gender Maskulin Versus Feminin dalam Bahasa Arab dan Bahasa Indonesia
This paper discusses the reflection of gender in Arabic and Indonesian languages and then connects it to their each cultural contexts. Gender in Arabic grammar is important subcategory that distinguishes between masculine and feminine in almost every part of speech, whereas gender in Indonesian is not an important subcategory. After data analysis through comparison and elaboration phases obtained the following results: (1) the gender markers in Arabic are dominated by the grammatical markers, while the gender markers in Indonesian are dominated by the lexical markers and if it not significant the gender markers in Indonesian are not presented, and (2) Arabic strictly applies the gender system and is closely related to the rules of concord (agreement), while Indonesian loosely does it and does not own the rules of conformity. The distinction of gender system between the two languages shows the different of cultural system also. Based on social structure system, the Arab society emphasizes the gender segregation like man versus woman, while the society of Indonesia emphasizes the age and status distinctions. Based on genetic relationship system, the Arab people tend to be individual, while the Indonesian people tend to have mutual cooperation and collectiveness. Based on cultural system, the Arab people applying strict patriarchy, while the Indonesian people applying loose patriarchy
Unifying Diversities: Early Institutional Formation of the Indonesian National Education System c. December 1949 – August 1950
This paper explores the unification of the school system in Indonesia from December 1949 to August 1950. The unification of the educational system during this eight-month period reflected the Indonesian state formation in its earliest stage. It was a process of indonesianization in which the Indonesian Republicans in the Yogyakarta administration dominated the arena. State intervention in the teaching of religious courses and the position of the school system for non-Indonesian children were two of the most critical issues. At the same time, centralization of educational policy making was looming. The aim of this paper to examine the early process of the Indonesian state formation in education by making use of the archives disposed at ANRI that so for have been much neglected in the writing of the history of Indonesian education

The reception and perception of the Indonesian society onradio technology in the early period of the appearance of thistechnology in the former Netherlands East Indies can of course betraced in its diverse culture texts, including the literary texts. Eventhough such technological invention as radio is an element that isquite apparent and give colour in many modern Indonesian literarytexts, this element has not seemed to attract the attention of scholarsof Indonesian literary studies. This paper looks at the images of radiotechnology in modern Indonesian literary texts by examining how thistechnology is represented as a matter of course in early modernIndonesian literary works. Two works which will be investigated in thisarticle are Muhammad Dimyati’s Dibalik Tabir Gelombang Radio(1940) and A. Damhoeri’s Zender Nirom (1940).
