Data-driven malware detection for 6G networks: a survey from the perspective of continuous learning and explainability via visualisation
5G is inherently prone to security vulnerabilities. We witness that many today’s networks contain 5G security flaws due to their reliance on the existing 4G network core. A lack of security standards for 5G IoT devices means network breaches and malware threats might run uncontrolled. The future 6G network is predicted to be implemented with artificial intelligence- driven communication via machine learning, enhanced edge computing, post-quantum cryptography and so forth. With the activation of edge computing, the computing power available at supercomputing servers is to be integrated directly into the devices at the entry point of a network in a distributed manner (e.g., antennas, routers, IoT sensors, etc). This feature brings an equal quality of service everywhere including remote regions (a.k.a service everywhere) which will trigger an exponential growth of associated applications. In this intricate environment, malware attacks are becoming more challenging to detect. This paper thus reviews the theoretical and experimental data-driven malware detection literature, in the large-scale data-intensive field, relating to: (1) continuous learning, including new concepts in multi-domain to multi-target learning and the challenges associated with unseen/unknown data, imbalance data and data scarcity, and (2) new explainability via visualisation concepts with a multi-labelling approach which allows identifying malware by their recipes while improving the interpretability of its decision process
Valuing diversity: an undervalued mediator of intergroup contact
Valuing diversity and intergroup contact predict less prejudice and discrimination, yet their relationship deserves closer attention. There is some evidence that valuing diversity and intergroup contact are associated, but it has not been tested whether the established effects of contact come about through changes in valuing diversity. We address this in two studies (total N = 2835) that consider valuing diversity as a mediator of intergroup contact. They show that valuing diversity mediates the relationships of intergroup contact with prejudice, bystander intervention intentions, policy support and approach intentions. Our results increase the understanding of pathways from intergroup contact to intergroup relations and offer a lever that contact interventions can target

Preserving and sharing born-digital and hybrid objects from and across the National Collection
This report is one of a set of outputs from the Arts and Humanities
Research Council funded project ‘Preserving and sharing born-digital and hybrid objects from and across the National Collection’. It has been designed to provide an extensive account of the project
research activities and findings, to be useful to museum, heritage,
and preservation professionals, as well as to scholars interested in
born-digital materials.
The aims of the project were to instigate a conversation and build confidence across the museum sector to support the collecting of born-digital objects, and to lay the foundations for future research in the field. The research gathers the expertise of professionals from different backgrounds, and has an international ambition; however, institutions addressing this type of collections tend to be concentrated in a few countries across Europe, Australia and North America.
The research’s methodology includes: desk-based research, the focused investigation of four case studies, interviews and workshops. The analysis of the data collected has supported the articulation of a set of themes and key ideas that provide the grounding for the expression of policy, research and practice-related recommendations.
The report understands the challenges of collecting born-digital objects as going beyond the mere technical realm of obsolescence and broken dependencies, to address issues of legality, visibility and accountability. It discusses the multi-layered and complex authorship of many born-digital objects associated with communities or corporate ownership, and expands
on the potential of collaborative approaches to collection stewardship
Early manifestations of intellectual performance: evidence that genetic effects on later academic test performance are mediated through verbal ability in early childhood
Intellectual performance is highly heritable and robustly predicts lifelong health and success but the earliest manifestations of genetic effects on this asset are not well understood. This study examined whether early executive function (EF) or verbal performance mediate genetic influences on subsequent intellectual performance, in a US-based sample of 561 adoptees (57% male) and their birth and adoptive parents (70% and 92% White, 13% and 4% African American, 7% and 2% Latinx, respectively). Genetic influences on children’s academic performance at 7 years were mediated by verbal performance at 4.5 years (β = .22, 95% CI [0.08, 0.35], p = .002) and not via EF, indicating that verbal performance is an early manifestation of genetic propensity for intellectual performance
Food, multiplicity, and imperialism: patterns of domination and subversion in the modern international system
This paper mobilises the notion of global food regime to explore ways in which modern international relations are reproduced through distinctive patterns of alimentary domination and subversion. It considers three ideal-typical international encounters – the Spanish conquest of the Americas, British rule in South Asia, and the US occupation of Japan – to offer a stylised historical-sociological comparison of how food becomes a powerful site of interaction between conflicting dynamics of social differentiation and incorporation, segregation and admixture, and domination and subversion. The Spanish, British and Americans deployed different strategies of alimentary domination in these contexts,
which can in large measure be explained with reference to their
prevailing mode of production. But they also unleashed equally potent forces of culinary adaptation, transculturation and innovation which, in bringing together a multiplicity of foodways, subverted both the rigid structures of imperial rule and notions of a pristine pre-colonial or national cultural traditions
Management competencies for health and wellbeing
A growing body of research demonstrates the impact of management behavior on a range of individual and organizational health and wellbeing outcomes; however, efforts to train and develop managers often fall short. This chapter focuses on research to identify competencies–or the collection of skills, abilities, and knowledge–required by managers to promote, protect, maintain, and support the health and wellbeing of employees. A number of specific competency frameworks are presented: for preventing and reducing work stress, enhancing engagement, managing remote workers, and supporting return to work following sickness absence. Research examining the development of management competencies is shared and the implications of new approaches to management such as compassionate leadership and mindfulness are considered. Finally, learnings from interventions to develop management competencies for health and wellbeing are discussed. This chapter aims to provide practical insights into how we can develop managers so that they can better support their teams. We argue that if we are to equip managers to manage the health and wellbeing of others, we must not only raise awareness of health and wellbeing but also support the development of the key skills, ability, and knowledge to take action. In doing so, managing health and wellbeing is not a separate activity on top of managing performance but rather becomes an integral part of the management practices.

The T1-tetramerization domain of Kv1.2 rescues expression and preserves function of a truncated NaChBac Sodium Channel
Cytoplasmic domains frequently promote functional assembly of multimeric ion channels. To investigate structural determinants of this process, we generated the ‘T1-chimera’ construct of the NaChBac sodium channel by truncating the C-terminal domain and splicing the T1-tetramerisation domain of the Kv1.2 channel to the N-terminus. Purified T1-chimera channels were tetrameric, conducted Na+ when reconstituted into proteliposomes and were blocked by the drug mibefradil. Both the T1-chimera and full-length NaChBac had comparable expression in the membrane whereas a NaChBac mutant lacking a cytoplasmic domain had greatly-reduced membranal expression. Our findings support a model whereby bringing the transmembrane regions into close proximity enables their tetramerization. This phenomemon is found with other channels and thus our findings substantiate this as a common assembly mechanism.

Human movements don’t look the same in a tilted world: gravitational constraints influence the perception of biological motion
We investigated whether gravitational constraints influence the interaction of visual, proprioceptive and vestibular cues for Biological Motion Perception (BMP). Participants were asked to distinguish between plausible and random point-light movements, while passively placed in either an upright or a tilted body orientation. Manipulating the body orientation with respect to gravity leads to different gravitational signals transmitted by the visual, proprioceptive, and vestibular systems. Participants were overall faster in distinguishing plausible point-light movements than random movements. Critically, response times for biologically plausible point-light movements — but not for random movements — were significantly prolonged in the tilted body orientation. Our results suggest that BMP depends not only on the spatial–temporal cues embedded in point-light movements but also rely on the congruency between current gravitational signals detected by the sensory systems and our previous knowledge of terrestrial gravity
