Utilization of Asteraceae family as medicinal plant by local community of hutan pinus Jantho nature reserve, Aceh Besar
The use of medicinal plants by local communities is an ethnobotany study that links the culture of the community with the resources of plants that are around it. A study on the utilization of medicinal plants in the Hutan Pinus Jantho Nature Reserve was conducted with the aim of obtaining information about the types of medicinal plants used by local communities around Hutan Pinus Jantho Nature Reserve. This study applies the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method for interviews conducted by Purposive Sampling. The parameters measured are; parts of medicinal plants used, method of processing, method of use, and location of the collection. According to interview, it found about 10 species of Asteraceae those have medical potential, 3 of them already use by the local community of CAHPJ, these are Blumea balsamiferaL.,Chromolaena odorataL., andTagetes erectaL.,these species could cure the wound, heal the cold, fever, stomachache and other diseases
Factors that influence the recovery of TB patients using Cox proportional hazard regression
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease which is one of the biggest health problems in the world, including Indonesia. The government, through the National Tuberculosis Control program, has made various efforts to control tuberculosis. However, this problem was exacerbated by the dramatic increase in the incidence of tuberculosis. This study aimed to determine the Cox proportional hazard regression model and the factors that affect the cure rate of TB patients. We used medical record data for inpatient TB patients for the period July-December 2017 at dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital. The results showed that with = 0.1, the factors that influenced the recovery of TB patients were the type of cough, the symptoms of bloody cough and symptoms of sweating at night. There were 33.93% of patients who did not work. This category included students, domestic helpers, and those who did not work until they suffered from tuberculosis and were treated at dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital. The hazard ratio (failure ratio) showed that the tendency or cure rate for TB patients who did not experience cough symptoms was 70% greater than patients who experienced phlegm cough symptoms. The cure rate for TB patients who experienced coughing up blood symptoms was 53% greater than patients without these symptoms. The cure rate for TB patients who experienced symptoms of sweating at night was 54% greater than patients who did not sweat at night
Hylocereus polyrhizus effect on catalase and malondialdehyde in rats with oxidative stress
The excessive production of free radicals causes oxidative damage and degenerative diseases. Whereas, catalase is a macromolecule with a specific activity, but Malondialdehyde (MDA) is a small molecule with no activity. The peels of red dragon fruit (H. polyrhizus) are potential to be natural exogenous antioxidants. This research aimed to determine the effects of methanol fraction from H. polyrhizus peels on catalase activity and MDA level. The peel was macerated using chloroform and fractionated using methanol. The stress condition was done through five-day fasting and ten-minute swimming per day. The activity of catalase and MDA was measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Thirty five rats were divided into 7 groups: normal, negative, dose I (5 mg/200gBW), dose II (10 mg/200gBW), dose III (20 mg/200gBW), positive control (quercetin) (4 mg/200gBW) and vitamin E (17.64 mg/kg). The activity of catalase in the normal, negative, vitamin E, and quercetin, dose I, II, and II respectively were: 28.37; 7.8; 24.85; 34.33; 59.92; 28.18; and 70.85 Unit/mL. The average MDA level in the groups respectively were: 0.042; 0.051; 0.034; 0.042; 0.037; 0.033; 0.030 g/mL. The result of One Way ANOVA test showed that the catalase activity in dose III was significantly different than normal group; the MDA levels in all groups were significantly different than normal group. This research revealed that methanol fraction from H. polyrhizus peels is a potent antioxidant for its capacity to increase the activity of catalase and reduce the MDA level in rats with oxidative stress
Reduction mechanisms of Ag(I) and Au(III) in the synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles using leaf extract of Terminalia catappa
Synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNP) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) was carried out by the reduction method with leaf extract of Ketapang (Terminalia catappa). The biomolecules present in the extract generated the reduction of Ag+ and Au3+ ions from AgNO3 and HAuCl4, respectively. The growth of nanoparticles was monitored by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The maximum absorption of biosynthesis of AgNP and AuNP were observed in the respective range of 421-431nm and 530-535nm. Those peaks correspond to surface plasmon absorbance of AgNP and AuNP, respectively. Analysis on the functional groups change of the extract by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) Spectroscopy showed the formation of carbonyl- from hydroxyl-groups which suggested the oxidation and reduction processes involved in the formation of both nanoparticles. The average size distributions determined by PSA (Particle Size Analyzer) are 55-71nm and 18-44nm for AgNP and AuNP, respectively. Morphology of the silver nanoparticles was observed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and the structure of the compounds was characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The shape of AgNP varied from triangular, cubic and hexagonal polyshaped, while AuNP were spherical. XRD studies showed that the nanoparticles obtained were crystalline gold and silver
Development of Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometric method for identification and determination of marketed metamizole tablet preparation
Metamizole is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) that functions as an analgesic, antipyretic, and antiinflammatory. Examination of active substance contents is a requirement that must be met to ensure the quality of drug preparations. The aims of this study were to develop and validate the Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometric method for the quantitation of metamizole content in marketed tablet preparation. Identification and determination of metamizole contents by Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometric method used methanol solvent in the wavenumber range 4000 cm1 to 650 cm1. The results showed that the specific wavenumbers of metamizole were 1649.3 cm1; 1623.3 cm1; and 1589.7 cm1; and the contents metamizole in marketed tablet preparation ranged from (97.954 0.121)% to (104.541 0.257)%. From the validation method, the recovery result is 100.129%; the relative standard deviation is 0.057%; the limit of detection is 2.09526 mg/mL; the limit of quantitation is 6.34928 mg/mL; and the range 40 mg/mL to 60 mg/mL. The quantitation of metamizole contents can be carried out by Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometric method with accurate and precise quantitation results
Microwave Assisted Co/SiO2 preparation for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis
Cobalt catalyst has been widely used for Fischer-Tropsch (FT) Synthesis in Industry. The most common method to prepare cobalt catalyst is impregnations. Metal is deposited on porous support by contacting dry support with solution containing dissolved cobalt precursor. This step will follow by drying, calcination and reduction. The heating step used in this conventional method, however, may lead to the formation of metal silicate which is inactive site for catalysis. In this study, author explore the use of microwave to prepare catalyst compared to conventional drying method. Cobalt catalyst with SiO2 support was prepared and characterized. Particle size, surface area, and cobalt content were investigated. Crystallite size of 3-8 nm was formed which was reported to be the optimum size for cobalt catalyst in FT Synthesis. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) image revealed that microwave catalyst showed better uniformity and cobalt dispersion on silica support. Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) study also indicated that this catalyst has good stability at Low Temperature Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis. The catalysts were then applied plasma assisted FT process over a range of power plasma (20-60W) to investigate the effect on the conversion and selectivity. The results showed that microwave catalyst exhibit lower CO conversion at 42.06% compared to conventional method at 68.32%. However, microwave catalyst is more favourable for long chain hydrocarbon selectivity
Comparison of interpolation methods based on Geographic Information System (GIS) in the spatial distribution of seawater intrusion
The study of monitoring seawater intrusion and groundwater quality in a coastal area needs to be done regularly to prevent the clean water crisis problems in the future. Accurate and reliable interpolation of seawater intrusion over a region is the requirement of an efficient monitoring. In this study, different interpolation methods were investigated and compared to determine the best interpolation method for predicting the spatial distribution of seawater intrusion in the coastal area of Banda Aceh. Groundwater electrical conductivity (EC) was analyzed to identify the contamination of seawater intrusion into the coastal aquifers. Four interpolation methods such as Empirical Bayesian Kriging (EBK), Global Polynomial Interpolation (GPI), Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW), and Local Polynomial Interpolation (LPI), were used to create the spatial distribution of the groundwater electrical conductivity. The accuracy of interpolation methods was evaluated by using a cross-validation technique through the coefficient of determination (R2) and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The results showed that IDW performed the most accurate prediction values and the best surface which were indicated by the least RMSE and the highest R2 value. It can be concluded that IDW interpolation method is the best method for interpolating the groundwater electrical conductivity associated with seawater intrusion in the coastal area of Banda Aceh
Application of magnetic method for mapping buried structures around archaeological site of Masjid Tuha Indrapuri
Magnetic gradiometer survey has been conducted on the yard of the archaeological site of Masjid Tuha Indrapuri, Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh Province. The site is one of the oldest mosques erected during the Aceh Sultanate period. Magnetic method was applied for mapping archaeological structures buried beneath the surface. Total magnetic field data were measured using Proton Precession Magnetometer with grid spacing of 2 meters between stations covering the entire area of the site. Diurnal and international geomagnetic reference field data were corrected to the measured data in order to calculate total magnetic field anomalies that were influenced by the buried magnetic objects. The total magnetic field anomalies distribution shows two elongated structures with U-shaped patterns surrounding the mosque. The patterns are also revealed in reduction to the pole and derivative vertical filters of the total field anomaly data. The anomaly patterns are considered a response from the rest of the buried fences that were built around the mosque in the past
