THE EFFECT OF SOCIO-ECONOMY TOWARDS CONSERVATION AT CI TANDUY WATERSHED
The aims of the study are: 1) Analyzing positive effect of resident’s income towards resident’sparticipation on conserving Ci Tanduy watershed 2) Analyzing negative effect of resident’sknowledge towards resident’s participation in conserving Ci Tanduy watershed, 3) Analyzingnegative effect of land possession towards resident’s participation in conserving Ci Tanduywatershed 4) Analyzing effort to improve resident’s socio-economy which supportsmaintenance and protection effort of Ci Tanduy watershed. Study method which is used issurvey with analysis with quantitative method. Analysis technique which is used is linearRegression. Area population is Ci Tanduy Watershed. Resident population is farmers andfishermen around the wwatershed. Analysis conclusion shows that 1) There is positive effectof income towards participation, 2) There is negative effect of knowledge towardsparticipation, 3) There is negative effect of land possession toward participation, 4) Areaphysical condition, which affects erosion and participation, requires resident participation
The Dilemma of Food in Africa
Although over 70 per cent of the labour force is engaged in agriculture, Africa is loosing the capacity to feed itself. Drought, a fast growing population, widespread deterioration of the countryside, as well as a chronic undereinvestment in agriculture, have all contributed to declining yields and a vicious cycle of poverty from which the peasant farmer and African countries have increasingly found it difficult to escape.The need therefore is most urgent for African governments to reexamine their food and agricultural policies to tumble them provide more food for their growing population. Encouragement of large and Medium scale commercial farming, land reform, environmental management, reduction of population growth, improvement in storage and transport facilities as well as pursue political stability and a cessation of the violent conflicts that have characterized the continent, will reduce the food problem in Africa
Indonesia's cultural economy: an economic geography using two secondary data sources
Economic geographers have become increasingly interested in the importance of the 'cultural economy' to cities and regions, but rarely have results been sought or discussed for Southeast Asia or nations in the developing world. This article responds to this lacuna by charting an economic geography of cultural production in Indonesia, examining two sources ofpublicly available data: the United Nations Statistics Division's COMTRADE database of trade statistics, and DISb2b Indonesia (a commercial database of business location details in Indonesia). Results are discussed for the period 1996- 2002, for which reliable data are available. While both sources are limited (and such limitations are discussed here), they provide enough insight for some conclusions about the character of 1ndonesia's cultural economy to emerge. In contrast to studies of cultural economy in overseas contexts, Indonesia's culture-related exports are dominated by emphasis on hardware and manufacturing output, rather than intellectual property or 'symbolic' content. In keeping with overseas examples though, the geography oflndonesiak cultural economy displays high levels of metropolitan primacy. Results suggest that theories of cultural economies must be re-shaped to include consideration of regional and international flows, in addition to locally-unique class, cultural and economic dynamics in particular cities and regions
Application Of Water Table Fluctuation Method To Quantify Spatial Groundwater Recharge Witidn The Southern Slope Of Merapi Volcano, Indonesia
The southern slope of Merapi Volcano plays a significant role to Yogyakarta Municipality groundwater resources. Groundwater recharge, herein meant as the effective precipitation that infiltrates into unsaturated zone andpercolates to water table after exceeds the soi/field capacity, is the main subject in this article. The objective of this research is to apply WTF method to spatially define the groundwater annual recharge. Four wells are selected to represent some geomorphologic units. Then, four A WLR installed to record the yearly shallow groundwater table fluctuation. In addition, WTF method requires groundwaterfluctuation and specific yield data. The rate of groundwater recharge in every well confirms the varying value. However, it seems that geomorphologic unit may be principally control to the time series variation of shallow groundwater jluctuationthat results in groundwater recharge characteristic. The volcanic slope unit (above 600 m as!) has the lowest water table fluctuation indicates the resistant comportment to the annual rainfall. Ihis unit is characterized by the relatively high magnitude of recharge of approximately 4270 mm/year

RIP CURRENTS SIGNATURES ZONE DETECTION ON ALOS PALSAR IMAGE AT PARANGTRITIS BEACH, INDONESIA
Having bay and gulf morphology as cresentic beach, Parangtritis coast has been known potentiallythreat by rip currents hazard. This study aims to identify and detect breaking wavesregion and surf zone on ALOS PALSAR images, and identify and extract the cove shapeshoreline morphology of Parangtritis beach. ALOS PALSAR Fine Beam Single (FBS) HH polarizationacquired on 2nd May 2007 and 17th June 2007, off nadir angle 34.3º, and in descendingmode level 1.0 were utilized to derive amplitude information using Sigmasar. Shorelinemorphology detection showed that the cusps system has not changed much during May toJune 2007 when PALSAR images acquired, but might have shifted individually. The use ofoptical sensor with the same spatial resolution, ALOS AVNIR-2, supports to distinguish theboundary and determine the shoreline morphology of Parangtritis beach
AGRICULTURAL LAND CONVERSION: DETERMINANTS AND IMPACT FOR FOOD SUFFICIENCY IN SLEMAN REGENCY
The research was conducted in Sleman Regency with 3 study area based on the extent ofagricultural land conversion. The purpose of this research is to examine the determinants ofagricultural conversion internally and externally, as well as the impact on the availability offood, especially rice. The research was conducted by survey method and statistical analysisregression Ordinary Least Square. The resultsof this research showed that the internalfactors which significantly affect land conversion is the price of land and land location in allareas of study. External factors have significantly positive are variable population, landconversion rules and land location, while the variable GDP in the agricultural sectornegatively. Availability of rice in Sleman Regenct zone 1 indicates the region from 1983 to2025 for the population minus the rice sufficiency. SPATIAL - TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF URBAN HEAT ISLAND IN TANGERANG CITY
Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon which is affected by human activities. Land use change by humanactivities, expressed by urbanization that means rural or suburban areas changed to urban areas. This study isintended to identify the UHI phenomena in Tangerang city. To answer the aim of this research,temperature datais collected (direct and indirect data). Direct collection for air surface temperature conducted by surveyingsome location collect in 24 hour period (April 2012) and another location by rapid 10 – 15 minute in day time(April, July, August and September 2012). This technique employed mobile temperature and humidity tools.Secondary air surface temperature data (24 hour period) during 2009-2012 also use in this study. Indirect dataemployed Landsat TM only two year data 2001 and 2012 for land surface temperature. Satellite data employedto identify land cover change to get information about land use change. The result shown that the temperaturecondition, both air surface and land surface temperature, were changed. UHI phenomenon in Tangerang Cityindicated by temperature higher than 300C. Based on land surface temperature, UHI phenomenon in 2001already occurred at small area. UHI phenomenon in 2012 almost covered the Tangerang City area. UHI Indexin 2009 is 3.60C, in 2011 is 1.50C and then 2012 become 1.20C. This study concludes that UHI phenomenafound since 2001 and trend of UHI Index AST since 2009 with average UHI Index AST of 20C. UHI Index LSTin 2001 is 9.780C and 2012 is 13.960
monthly probabilities for acquiring remote sensed data of indonesia with cloud cover less than 10 , 20 and 30 percent
The Indonesian spatiotemporal cloud cover distribution was quantified with the aid of GMS, Landsat and SPOT data. Iterative interactive factorial analyses grouped pixels with similar profiles into 18 classes for all land areas. For each class, statistics of Landsat and SPOT images, grouped by class, were used to verify, calibrate and improve class profiles. This led to quantified temporal profiles of probability of acquiring remotely sensed data with 10 , 20 and 30 percent cloud cover, for any Indonesian land area
