    Urban Temperature Profiles and Land Cover Detection in the Jakarta Metropolitan Area using Remote Sensing

    This research aim to investigate the urban thermal environment profile and land cover classification  in the Jakarta Metropolitan Area (JMA) in 1989 and 2013. Thermal environment conducted by installing fix point ground measurement of air temperature and land surface temperature. The land cover classification was carried out  by using Landsat TM 5 and Landsat 7 ETM+ data sets. The diurnal variation of air temperature shows that Urban Heat Island (UHI) was occurring in urban and suburban JMA, which can be seen the slower cooling period in the urban area than suburban areas. Positive correlation between air temperature (Ta) and land surface temperature (Ts) on the brush (r2 = 0.78) and the asphalt surface (r2= 0.88) is clearly shown during the study. The rapid urbanization was detected during 1989 to 2013 where the urban sprawl is spread over to the whole area of JMA. Urban built up is the dominant of high increase due to years, while vegetation is decreasing.   

    Assessment the Relationship of Maternal Child Health Accessibility, Infant Mortality and Fertility in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh

    Equitable provision of health care services and full coverage of health accessibility are the major challenge for developing countries to achieve the sustainable development goal (SDG 3 and 10). A geographical information system (GIS) is an effective platform for knowing how much area and population are covered by the existing MCH (maternal child health) services network for better health care planning. The aim of this study is to assess the geographical accessibility of MCH services and how they give impact on infant mortality and fertility in Sagar District. To uncover the answer, this study used buffer zone analysis, service area analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The findings highlight lower accessibility has prevailed in the study area in which 41 percent village was underserved by the buffer zone analysis while 62 percent was underserved by the service area analysis out of 2075 village. It is diversified from higher accessibility in north western Khurai plain region to lower in the central upland exclude the Sagar community development Block. We also find that health accessibility can explain 53 percent of the infant mortality of the district and IMR may control 33 percent of the children ever born in the district.The service area and buffer mapped output may have policy implication for the future establishment of the health center and road network. This policy can be helpful for reducing infant mortality and fertility through this they achieved SDG target

    An Assessment of Property Tax Administration in Edo State, Nigeria

    ABSTRACTThe mode of administration of property tax determines its buoyancy. The study utilizes key informant method to examine the mode of operation of Edo State Land Use Charge.  The study observes that property tax revenue mobilization in Benin Metropolis is ineffective due to unsystematic tax administration procedure employed by Land Use Charge Department. The study shows that inadequate personnel, public contempt, limited coverage of the tax base and shrouded valuation method are major problems of the Land Use Charge in Benin metropolis. It also reveals that the current property tax administration will not appreciably enhance the internally generated revenue except the mode of operation is reformed. To overcome these challenges it is recommended among others that the implementation of modern and transparent assessment methods for real estate utilizing remote sensing and GIS integrated with computer-assisted mass appraisal (CAMA) be incorporated through a public-involved debate on property tax reform. Modus administrasi pajak properti menentukan daya apung. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode informan kunci untuk memeriksa modus operasi dari Edo Negara Penggunaan Tanah Charge. Penelitian ini mengamati bahwa pajak properti mobilisasi pendapatan di Benin Metropolis tidak efektif karena prosedur administrasi perpajakan sistematis dipekerjakan oleh Penggunaan Tanah Mengisi Department. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa personil yang tidak memadai, penghinaan publik, cakupan terbatas basis pajak dan metode penilaian diselimuti masalah utama dari Penggunaan Tanah Mengisi di Benin metropolis. Ia juga mengungkapkan bahwa administrasi pajak properti saat ini tidak akan lumayan meningkatkan pendapatan yang dihasilkan secara internal kecuali modus operasi direformasi. Untuk mengatasi tantangan ini dianjurkan antara lain bahwa pelaksanaan metode penilaian modern dan transparan untuk real estate memanfaatkan penginderaan jauh dan GIS terintegrasi dengan komputer-dibantu penilaian massa (CAMA) dimasukkan melalui debat publik-terlibat pada reformasi pajak properti

    Toll roads is one important component to improve the progress of a country, because with the addition of toll roads, the accessibility easier and can advance the economic movement. One of the toll road construction that is underway is construction of Cileunyi - Sumedang - Dawuan (Cisumdawu). The Cisumdawu Toll is prepared to tackle congestion on Jalan Cadas Pangeran and facilitate access to Kertajati International Airport. The construction of the Cisumdawu toll road itself is inseparable from land acquisition problems. Land acquisition is a process to purchase community-owned land which passed by toll road. Land acquisition requires a land certificate to facilitate legal affairs, unfortunately many land in rural areas do not yet have a certificate. This certification process can be assisted by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology to map parcel data. This research examines how UAV assist in the acceleration of certification for land parcels to be acquired

    Forest area in upper Perapau sub watershed that provide a hydrological benefit for community living surrounding are now partially converted to plantations, dry land farms and paddy fields, whereas the forests are part of protected forest and wildlife reserve. The land cover change occurs due to lack of understanding about economic value of hydrological benefits of forests in the Perapau sub watershed. This study aims to determine the economic value of hydrological benefits of forests in Perapau sub watershed. Procurement cost method used to estimate the economic value of the hydrological benefits of the Perapau sub watershed.  The economic value of hydrological benefits for household and agricultural purposes is 1.712 trillion rupiah and 11.056 billion rupiah. Based on the economic value of hydrological benefit, sustainability of forest in the upstream of Perapau sub watershed must be supported for sustainability of hydrological services of watershed

    Digital Divide and Poverty Eradication in the Rural Region of Northern Peninsular Malaysia

     One of the ways to eliminate poverty is through Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) that is often promoted as central to reviving and sustaining regional communities. In the context of Malaysia, however, the level of communication in urban and rural areas has seen a gap in terms of access to ICTs. Though various initiatives are taken to close the digital gaps, more efforts are needed. This paper intends to explore the extent to which ICTs in rural areas of northern Peninsular Malaysia are able to raise the socio-economic development of the communities. Using questionnaires and in-depth interviews, emphasis is given to analyze the role of ICTs in poverty reduction processes upholding regional developments. It has been observed that solving common causes for the communities’ access and socio-economic growth needs strategic implementation of policies at the central core and pragmatic implementation of actions at the grass root level

    Human and Economic Resources Mapping Analysis to Evaluate the SDGs Accomplishment in South Kalimantan, Indonesia

    Natural resource abundance in South Kalimantan has been expected to optimize public services. The SDGs accomplishment requires an equitable implementation in economic, social, and environmental aspects. This research aimed to (1) discover the human and economic condition and (2) determine the development direction of South Kalimantan Province. It was based on institutional-secondary data that were processed in GIS software and analyzed with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that: (1) the human resources in South Kalimantan could accelerate regional development—however, some of the qualitative indicators are associated with poverty complicated by gender disparity—, while the land resources became increasingly limited due to intensive agricultural practices that caused the rise of industrial and trade sectors; and (2) the development of South Kalimantan should improve people’s perception of gender-related topics, recruit more medical workers, and reduce pressures on agricultural land by switching into stable industrial activities

    Important factors that needs to be understood in the management of fishery resources is fish habitat. Fish habitat is an ideal water conditions of a fish species to spawn, breed, feed and grow into adults. Distribution of fish habitat can be approach using variety method, such Habitat Suitability/Species Distribution Modeling. Remote sensing analysis is effective method in providing daily oceanography information. Modis is Remote sensing imagery can be used for modeling Rastrelliger brachysoma fish habitat. Date acquired MODIS image at 28 March 2015, depend on existing field data. The results indicate that, the highest probability of Rastrelliger brachysoma fish habitat location in WPP 711 are in the middle waters of the WPP border between the deep sea of Indonesia and the Pacific Ocean. The lowest probability value for habitat of Rastrelliger brachysoma fish is in the southern shallow waters of Bangka Belitung island which is around 0.1-0.25

    Distribution of Nitrate Household Waste and Groundwater Flow Direction around Code River, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

    The nitrate concentrations in shallow groundwater of the Yogyakarta City and its surroundings has increased to about twenty times in the period 1985-2018. The objective of this study was to analyse the distribution of nitrate concentrations in water well around the Code River, Yogyakarta. Flownets mapping was performed to find out the distribution and direction of potential groundwater pollution. Nitrate concentration was analysed by taking 18 groundwater samples scattered in the upstream, midstream and downstream areas of the Code River. The results of this study indicate that nitrate concentrations in the water well of upstream and downstream areas could still be used as a source of drinking water and recreation-irrigation-livestock. Meanwhile, the nitrate concentration in water well of the midstream area of the Code River, Yogyakarta City, mostly (80% of the sample) did not meet all classes of water quality standards. Human activities in the densely populated settlements were the main factors that influence nitrate pollution. Furthermore, groundwater flow in the study area leads from north to south and towards the Code River. This condition indicates that the nitrate concentrations in  the groundwater can be a source of a pollutant for the Code River

    Dynamical Link of Peat Fires in South Sumatra and the Climate Modes in the Indo-Pacific Region

    Peat fire is one of the environmental disasters occurring widespread during the dry season in South Sumatra. The region has long been recognized to have extensive peatland, hence it is considered as the vulnerable areas to fire. This study employs spatial analysis to evaluate the likely linked factors causing peat fire in the study area. Two interannual climate modes such as the El Niño – Southern Oscillation and Indian Ocean Dipole were considered to have affected the area with respect to climate anomaly at the 1995-2016 periods. This phenomenon was followed by the peat fire in many areas. There appears a close linkage between the occurrence of peat fires and climate anomaly. A number of hotspots tend to occur annually during the drought season. A significant number of hotspots took place during the 2006 pIOD and 2015 El Niño events due to a significant decrease in rainfall intensities
