Aqueous two-phase systems for the extraction, separation, and recovery of synthetic dyes.
In the past two decades, aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) have been extensively proposed as a promising and environmentally friendly tool for the extraction, pre-concentration, separation, and recovery of synthetic dyes. Despite their growing popularity in the context of synthetic dyes, a comprehensive understanding of the real- world applications of ATPSs in this domain remains elusive. This review examines existing literature on the partitioning of synthetic dyes in ATPSs, focusing on an analytical approach. Through this critical examination, we identify and illuminate the current gaps, challenges, and prospects in the area to drive applications in the analytical scale
Chagas disease deaths detected among garbage codes registered in mortality statistics in Brazil : a study from the burden of Chagas disease in the contemporary world (RAISE) project.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to identify Brazil's most critical garbage codes (GCs) reclas-
sified to Chagas disease (ChD) in mortality data and their proportions. We also estimated the potential
impact of misclassification on the number of deaths attributed to ChD.
Study design: Population-based descriptive study.
Methods: We used the Mortality Information System (SIM; in Portuguese) data before and after routine
GC investigation in 2015e2019 to evaluate ChD deaths detected among them. We identified priority GCs,
which contributed more than 0.1 % to the percentage of total ChD deaths registered. Spearman's cor-
relation was used to evaluate the association between the reclassification of priority GCs and ChD
prevalence. Then, we applied the GC correction factors to estimate the number of deaths attributed to
ChD.
Results: 22,154 deaths were reported as ChD in the study period. Among them, 1004 deaths originally
listed as priority GCs were deaths reclassified to ChD after an investigation in the SIM final database.
Unspecific cardiomyopathy (10.2 %), unspecific heart diseases (4.7 %), and heart failure (2.8 %) were GCs
with the highest proportions of reclassification to ChD in Brazil. Higher ChD prevalence at the state level
was associated with a higher proportion of GC deaths reclassified as ChD. When applying correction
factors identified after investigation, we estimated an increase of 26.4 % in registered ChD deaths, mostly
in states with higher endemicity.
Conclusions: GCs might conceal deaths due to ChD, particularly in Brazil's states with higher endemicity.
The approach suggested in this study may offer an alternative method for estimating ChD-related deaths
in endemic countries
Two competing views on formal principles.
This article presents two different proposals concerning the role that formal principles play in judicial review. Its methodology consists first in presenting the concept of formal principles and the models of formal principles that have been developed within principles’ theory. Then it compares the existing mod- els and, after that, it presents two different and new views, which are not comprised within the existing models. The first view, proposed by the first author, defends that formal principles can appropriately reconstruct judicial review insofar as they can embody both deviance (to a certain extent) and uncertainty that are present when authorities create the law. The second view, which is defended by the second author, does not understand formal princi- ples as a necessary complement of principles’ theory. According to this view, the only thing principles’ theorists needed to do to answer the criticism that affirms that principles theory transforms the parliamentary democracy into a judicial state was explaining the institutional background of the theory, which is established by German’s Fundamental Law concerning judicial review
Background: In the Pedagogical Residency Program, preceptors are basic education teachers who accompany teaching degree students, known as residents, in activities performed in the school environment. Objective: To investigate the performance of preceptors during their insertion in the Pedagogical Residency Program to understand its repercussions on the movement of constituting the identity of mathematics teacher educators. Design: This study is characterised by being of a qualitative nature. Data collection and analysis: Semi-structured interviews. Setting and participants: Two mathematics preceptors from the Pedagogical Residency Program. Results: The interviews were transcribed and analysed in light of the characterisation of the professional identity of a teacher who teaches mathematics, as proposed by Cyrino (2017). Conclusions: This characterisation was found to be close to that of the identity of the educator of the teacher who teaches mathematics.
Messaline between places : representations in European posterity and iconography.
This article aims to study and analyze the representations of Valeria Messalina (23-25 AD – 48 AD), wife of Claudius (10 BC – 54 AD), using ancient sources to understand the portrait built by rhetorical precepts regarding a place of representation of women considered subversive, like Messalina. We analyze, above all, how this place of representation, carried out in the epideictic key of discourse, points to the fact that her reputation, as established by antiquity, is, in addition to a historical fact, a product of rhetorical decorum. With this, we begin to carry out a brief analysis regarding the repercussion of Messalina's representation for posterity, and how it illustrates and points very well to the permanence of a common place of misogyny in discourse
Índices ESG/SRI brasileños tienen mayores retornos y riesgos menores? : una comparación utilizando ISE, IGCT, IBOVESPA y IBRX.
Socially Responsible Investments (SRI) are a part of the broader concept of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), a set of institutional practices that aggregate the activities of a company with the responsibility with its social and environmental surroundings. Markets and investors are increasingly interested in such good practices, the reason why stock exchanges have developed indices composed of companies with differentiated initiatives of sustainability and governance (Liang & Renneboog, 2020). This paper aims to investigate whether two of the B3 ESG/SRI indices, ISE and IGCT, outperform in the mean-variance (return and risk) dimension the most famous B3 broad indices, Ibovespa and IBrX. We used parametric and non-parametric tests of equal mean and equal/homogeneity variances to address our research question. Results show that Brazilian ESG/SRI indices are not statistically different from broad indices in returns, i.e., they have, on average, equal means. However, there is evidence that ESG/SRI indices are less risky than the Ibovespa and IBrX indices.
The research presented here deals with students graduating from Youth and Adult Education (EJA) who go on to higher education. The public that EJA caters for are young people, adults and the elderly who, for the most part, are in the world of work and have experienced a school trajectory marked by discontinuity. The aim of this research is to investigate and analyze, through the literature, the cases of students graduating from Youth and Adult Education (EJA) who reach higher education, entering the doors of universitiesin the face of prolonged schooling due to interruptions. What is it like for these EJA students, who attend evening classes every day after a long working day, to go on to higher education? To answer this question, we opted for qualitative bibliographical research. The search was carried out in the Bank for the Coordination of the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations/BTDC of Capes and in University Repositories, in which theses and dissertations researched in the years 2008 to 2023 stood out. The total number of papers is thirty-one, fifteen of which are directly related to the research topic. Of these, five were selected: three dissertations and two theses for in-depth study. The results point to the following categories of analysis: 1) Entry into Higher Education 2) Strategies adopted by these individuals to divide their time between work, family and study; and 3) permanence in Higher Education. Through these categories of analysis and the studies carried out on the subject, it is observed that, given the many challenges faced by these students graduating from the EJA, a few of them manage to reach higher education and complete it successfully. We can also see that, through the speeches and life stories of these individuals, Youth and Adult Education was an important form of education in the personal and school life trajectory of these graduates who return to their studies
This paper addresses an emerging theme of significant internet connectivity: the problem of access to broadband internet, the digitalization of rural areas, digital inclusion and the use of digital platforms. Access to significant connectivity has great potential to enable the digital and educational inclusion of rural communities and family farmers in rural areas in Brazil and Latin America. The theme is complex, as it involves multiple demands, from access to internet with significant connectivity, production processes, the type of technical assistance and rural extension model, education and qualification, social and territorial inequalities, that is, a multidisciplinary and challenging offline reality for public policies. In contemporary Brazil, the results of internet access can be ambiguous, while expanding opportunities reinforce persistent inequalities in the territory due to the various barriers to entry and provision of broadband internet in rural areas in Brazil. The paper presents initial data from an ongoing research project based on a bibliographic review, focusing on meaningful connectivity and aiming to raise reflections on the dimension of digital inclusion in rural areas
