    The auriferous quartz lode of the Veloso deposit, Quadrilátero Ferrífero of Minas Gerais, Brazil : geological characterisation and constraints from tourmaline boron isotopes.

    Veloso is one of numerous and poorly documented auriferous deposits of Ouro Preto, the town that symbolises the gold rush in Brazil at the turn of the seventeenth century. We present the results of underground geological mapping, combined with a boron (B) isotopic study of tourmaline, an elusive mineral in the auriferous quartz lode of the historical Veloso deposit. Its lode is characteristically brecciated in a host rock that shows no cataclastic fabric. The host rock is itabirite, a metamorphosed banded iron formation. Tourmaline is essentially dravite and locally occurs as abundant crystals in brec-cia-cementing pockets of goethite, formed from the oxidation of sulfide minerals. Gold is spatially associated with tour-maline in the goethite-rich pockets. In situ measurements for B isotopes yielded δ11B values in the range of −21 to −9‰. This range is similar to that reported for tourmaline of the Passagem de Mariana deposit, the best documented auriferous lode deposit at the south-eastern edge of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero. The tourmaline B isotopic data reflect auriferous fluids of crustal origin that sourced B from metasedimentary rocks, which may include a non-marine evaporitic component

Núcleo de Pesquisas em Ciências Biológicas, Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa de Pós Graduação, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto.As doenças humanas associadas aos flavivirus causam crescente morbidade e mortalidade em todo o mundo. Essas doenças têm se espalhado consideravelmente nos últimos anos, e alguns fatores dificultam seu diagnóstico, tais como a reatividade antigênica cruzada, combinada com sintomas similares entre as infecções causadas por vírus pertencentes a essa família, a co- circulação de diferentes flavivirus e pouco acesso a ferramentas avançadas de diagnóstico laboratorial. As metodologias para diagnóstico de tais vírus passam por contínuas mudanças, de forma a aprimorar alguns parâmetros tais como sensibilidade, especificidade, baixo custo e acessibilidade. Nesse contexto, a Nanotecnologia vem ganhando espaço considerável para o aprimoramento de tais métodos, contando com uma ampla gama de nanomateriais disponíveis com propriedades particulares e vantajosas. Para esse trabalho, foi desenvolvido um biossensor por meio da ressonância plasmônica de superfície localizada (LSPR) utilizando nanobastões de ouro funcionalizados à polietilenoimina 0,3% e à 0,3 μg/mL de anticorpos anti-flavivirus D1- 4G2-4- 15/ATCC® HB-112TM. Tal biossensor foi testado com diferentes concentrações de vírus (106 , 105 , 104 , 103 e 102 ) expressas em UFP/mL. Foram usados como controle positivo o Dengue virus e o Zika virus (ambos pertencentes ao gênero flavivirus) e como controles negativos o Mayaro virus e o Chikungunya virus (ambos do genêro Alphavirus). O biossensor foi capaz de detectar os vírus de interesse em todas as concentrações analisadas. Foi utilizado o Teste t de student para análises de duas varáveis e o Teste one-way Anova juntamente com a análise Sidak’s para comparar múltiplas variáveis. Os dados foram normalizados usando o software GraphPad Prism versão 8.0. Com base nos dados obtidos observa-se que o biossensor conseguiu detectar e diferenciar os vírus do gênero flavivirus na faixa de concentração entre 106 e 102 UFP/mL.Human diseases associated with flaviviruses cause increasing morbidity and mortality worldwide. These diseases have spread considerably in recent years, and some factors make their diagnosis difficult, such as antigenic cross-reactivity, combined with similar symptoms among infections caused by viruses belonging to this family, the co-circulation of different flaviviruses and little access to advanced laboratory diagnostic tools. Methodologies for diagnosing such viruses undergo continuous changes to improve some parameters such as sensitivity, specificity, low cost, and accessibility. In this context, Nanotechnology has been gaining considerable space in the improvement of such methods, with a wide range of nanomaterials available with particular and advantageous properties. For this work, a biosensor was developed through localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) using gold nanorods functionalized with 03% polyethyleneimine and 0.3 μg/mL of anti-flavivirus antibodies D1- 4G2-4-15/ATCC® HB -112TM. This biosensor was tested with different virus concentrations (106 , 105 , 104 , 103 and 102 ) expressed in PFU/ml. Dengue virus and Zika virus (both belonging to the flavivirus genus) were used as positive controls, and Mayaro virus and Chikungunya virus (both Alphavirus genus) were used as negative controls. The biosensor was able to detect the viruses of interest in all analyzed concentrations. Student's t Test was used for two-variable analysis and the one-way Anova Test together with Sidak's analysis to compare multiple variables, and data were normalized using GraphPad Prism software version 8.0. Based on the data obtained, it can be seen that the biosensor was able to detect and differentiate viruses of the flavivirus genus in the concentration range from 106 to 103 PFU/mL

Departamento de Direito, Escola de Direito, Turismo e Museologia, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto.A previdência social e a assistência social, vertentes da seguridade social brasileira, pelo menos formalmente, constituem um modelo eficiente de cobertura de riscos à sociedade, através da proteção do cidadão, no momento em que está inviabilizada ou reduzida sua capacidade de autossubsistência, em virtude do acometimento de algum risco social. O sistema social brasileiro consiste em relevante meio de redução das desigualdades sociais, redistribuição de renda e proteção das pessoas por meio da concessão de benefícios previdenciários e assistenciais, geridos pelo Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social. Contudo, no cumprimento das prestações positivas, que têm como fim último o alcance do bem-estar social e a efetivação da justiça social, há um grande gargalo. Eis o tema-problema: a autarquia previdenciária, que deveria ser a responsável pelo acesso à proteção social, em verdade, tem violado sistematicamente o direito de pessoas acometidas por riscos sociais, devido a diversas falhas internas e inconsequente forma de atuação administrativa, que geram demora excessiva e inaceitável no atendimento das demandas a ela submetidas. A hipótese que se ambiciona verificar é: existe um problema estrutural no INSS (Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social), que se consubstancia em uma deficiente política pública de seguridade social, cuja sequela é limitar a proteção social através do cerceamento de direitos, consagrando o INSS (Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social) como o maior litigante brasileiro, problema para o qual buscar-se-á o tratamento devido. Portanto, ventilar-se-á, com aporte teórico do problema estrutural cunhado por Freddie Didier, Hermes Zaneti Júnior e Rafael Alexandria, se a complexa questão identificada no INSS (Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social) foi ou tem potencial para ser adequada e efetivamente solucionada pela via do processo estrutural. Como forma de ratificar a hipótese deste estudo, repensar-se-á, através da ação civil pública manejada pelo MPF (Ministério Público Federal), que chegou até o Supremo Tribunal Federal e foi enquadrada na sistemática de repercussão geral (Tema 1066), o aplicado processo coletivo comum em cotejo com as possibilidades fornecidas pelo processo coletivo estrutural. Para tal, a pesquisa adotará a vertente metodológica jurídico-sociológica e o raciocínio que será desenvolvido na investigação dessa vertente é o dedutivo. Destarte, se partirá, principalmente, de dados coletados em pesquisas realizadas pelo Conselho Nacional de Justiça, pelo INSS (Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social) e pela Advocacia Geral da União. O tipo de investigação utilizado foi o jurídico-diagnóstico. Assim, a investigação se pauta em constatar o problema estrutural existente no INSS e o diagnosticar, por meio de suas características peculiares e consequências para todos que buscam amparo da autarquia previdenciária, o que será de grande valia para que, identificada a espécie, lhe seja dado o tratamento devido.Social Security and Social Assistance, strands of the Brazilian Social Security, at least formally, constitute an efficient model of risk coverage to society, through the protection of citizens at the moment when their self-subsistence capacity is unfeasible or reduced, due to the occurrence of some social risk. The Brazilian social system consists of an important means of reducing social inequalities, redistributing income and protecting people through the concession of social security and assistance benefits, managed by the National Institute of Social Security. However, in the fulfillment of positive benefits, which have as their ultimate goal the achievement of social welfare and the realization of social justice, there is a major bottleneck. This is the problem: the social security agency, which should be responsible for providing access to social protection, in truth, has systematically violated the rights of people affected by social risks, due to several internal flaws and inconsistent administrative performance, which generate excessive and unacceptable delays in meeting the demands submitted to it. The hypothesis we intend to verify is: there is a structural problem in the INSS (National Institute of Social Security), which is embodied in a deficient social security public policy, whose sequel is to limit social protection through the curtailment of rights, consecrating the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) as the largest Brazilian litigant, a problem for which the due treatment will be sought. Therefore, with the theoretical support of the structural problem coined by Freddie Didier, Hermes Zaneti Júnior and Rafael Alexandria, we will discuss whether the complex issue identified in the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) was or has the potential to be adequately and effectively solved through the structural process. In order to ratify the hypothesis of this study, the public civil action filed by the MPF (Federal Public Prosecutor's Office), which reached the Supreme Court and was framed within the system of general repercussion (Theme 1066), will be used to rethink the collective ordinary lawsuit in comparison with the possibilities provided by the structural collective lawsuit. To this end, the research will adopt the legal-sociological methodological approach and the reasoning that will be developed in the investigation of this approach is deductive. Thus, it will be based, mainly, on data collected from surveys carried out by the National Council of Justice, by the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) and by the Office of the Solicitor General of the Union. The type of research used was legal- diagnostic. Thus, the research is based on the verification of the structural problem existing in the INSS and its diagnosis, through its peculiar characteristics and consequences for all those who seek support from the social security agency, which will be of great value so that, once identified, the proper treatment can be given

    A sample of vanadium ore has been characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy coupled with dispersive energy spectrometry (SEM-EDS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The mineral composition was determined by the Rietveld method and the results showed that the major mineral constituents are maghemite (52.32%) and magnetite (15.73%). The SEM-EDS images showed that the vanadium is diffused over the crystal structure of almost all the minerals. Hydrogen reduction was assessed by thermogravimetry (TG), where three thermal events has been identified in the TG curves. The first event was probably related to two chemical reactions: (i) the oxidation of the mineral ulvospinel by different vanadium oxides, followed by the reduction of the products of this redox reaction by the hydrogen, and (ii) the reduction of the mineral magnesioferrite by the hydrogen. The other two events were attributed to the dehydroxylation of the phyllosilicates (greenalite, cronstedtite and sudoite) and the reduction of maghemite, magnetite, titanium oxides and vanadium oxides. Finally, the integration isoconversional method was used to determine the apparent activation energy (Ea), which ranged from 44.28kJ.mol-1 to 82.47 kJ.mol-1 for the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose method (KAS), and from 33.44kJ.mol-1 to 65.54kJ.mol-1 for the Ozawa-Flynn-Wall method (OFW). These values imply that the reduction is controlled by mixed process for low conversion values (diffusion and chemical reaction are the controlling steps) and by chemical reaction for high conversion values

    High molecular weight adiponectin as a biomarker of hypertension in children and adolescents with obesity.

    Lower HMW (high molecular weight) adiponectin levels are associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome in children and adolescents. However, data on HMW levels in pediatric population with hypertension are lacking. This study aimed to examine the association and predictive capacity of HMW levels, HMW/HOMA-IR, and HMW/APN ratio with hypertension in obese children and adolescents. The 299 pediatric subjects were grouped in obese hypertensive (OH), obese normotensive (ON), and normal weight normotensive (NN). Plasma concentrations of HMW were investigated by ELISA. ANOVA was used to compare study groups, and a binary logistic regression analysis was used to verify if HMW, HMW/HOMA-IR, HMW/APN, APN, APN/HOMA-IR, and HOMA-IR are associated to hypertension regardless obesity in children and adolescents. To compare the strength and performance of each biomarker to classify individuals with and without hypertension, the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve, area under the curve (AUC), and Youden index (J) were evaluated. Both HMW plasma levels and the HMW/HOMA-IR ratio were significantly lower in the OH group when compared to the ON group (HMW: 2.00±1.33 μg/mL vs 2.48±1.48 μg/mL; HMW/HOMA-IR ratio: 0.87±0.95 vs 1.27±1.2; P<0.05) and NN weight groups (HMW: 2.00±1.33 μg/mL vs 4.02±1.99 μg/mL; HMW/HOMA-IR ratio: 0.87±0.95 vs 2.62±1.86; P<0.05). Hypertension was associated with lowest HMW (OR=4.50; 95% CI=1.41–15.84) and HMW/HOMA-IR (OR=12.13; 95% CI=2.51–92.93) regardless of obesity. However, HOMA-IR or the HMW/APN was not significant (P>0.05). In the ROC curve analyses, the HMW and HMW/HOM-IR were more sensitive to detect hypertension in children and adolescents with obesity. Conclusion: Low levels of HMW oligomer and HMW/HOM-IR are associated with hypertension in childhood obesity. Thus, these biomarkers could be clinically useful in identifying hypertension in childhood obesity

    Verbenaceae in Itacolomi State Park, Minas Gerais, Brazil : richness, geographical distribution, and a new synonym for Stachytarpheta commutata.

    Verbenaceae includes 32 genera and approximately 800 species distributed mainly in the Neotropical region, especially diversified in Brazil, where the campo rupestre stands out as an important vegetation type for the family. The Itacolomi State Park (ISP) is located in the southeast of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, Minas Gerais state (MG), Brazil. Vegetation at the Park is composed of campo rupestre and forest remnants among degraded areas. The present research provides a floristic treatment of Verbenaceae in this protected area. Data were obtained from fieldwork and herbarium study. A total of 13 species were recorded: Glandularia phlogiflora, Lantanacamara, Lantanfucata,Lantanatiliaefolia, Lantanatrifolia, Lippiabrasiliensis, Lippia hermannioides, Lippiaoriganoides, Petreavolubilis, Stachytarphetacayennensis,Stachytarphetacommutata, Verbenalitoralis and Verbenarigida. Among them, six are new records for the ISP. Stachytarpheta glabra, endemic to MG, was found in an area of canga very close to the boundaries of the Park. Additionally, S. viscidula, whose type locality is close to the Park, is proposed as a new synonym for S. commutata, whose type specimen comes from the Park. We provide an identification key, descriptions, photographs and comments on taxonomy, ecology and distribution for each species.Verbenaceae inclui 32 gêneros e cerca de 800 espécies distribuídas principalmente na região Neotropical, especialmente diversificada no Brasil, onde os campos rupestres destacam-se como um importante tipo vegetacional para a família. O Parque Estadual do Itacolomi (PEIT) está localizado na região sudeste do Quadrilátero Ferrífero, Minas Gerais (MG), Brasil. Possui uma vegetação composta por campo rupestre e remanescentes florestais entre áreas degradadas. O presente estudo fornece um tratamento florístico para Verbenaceae nesta unidade de conservação. Os dados foram obtidos diretamente em campo e nos herbários. Um total de 13 espécies foram registradas: Glandularia phlogiflora, Lantana camara, Lantana fucata, Lantana tiliaefolia, Lantana trifolia, Lippia brasiliensis, Lippia hermannioides, Lippia origanoides, Petrea volubilis, Stachytarphetacayennensis,Stachytarphetacommutata, Verbenalitoralis e Verbenarigida. Dentre elas, seis são registradas pela primeira vez para a flora do PEIT. Stachytarpheta glabra, endêmica de MG, foi encontrada em uma área de canga muito próxima aos limites do Parque. Além disso, S. viscidula, cuja localidade tipo é próxima ao Parque,é proposta como um novo sinônimo de S. commutata, cujo espécime tipo é proveniente do Parque. Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica, Escola de Minas, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto.Refrigerantes com alto potencial de aquecimento global (GWP) tem sido amplamente utilizados em sistemas refrigeração e climatização. Contudo, eventos climáticos, como ondas de calor, tem se tornado frequentes ao redor do mundo. É estimado um acréscimo na temperatura do globo de mais de 2,0 oC até 2100. Em vista disso, o Acordo de Paris e o Protocolo de Montreal buscam substituir os refrigerantes com elevado GWP por outros com menor impacto ambiental. Nesse viés, este trabalho consiste em um estudo numérico da performance energética e exergética de refrigerantes zeotrópicos e azeotrópicos como substitutos do R134a em sistemas de refrigeração por compressão de vapor. O ciclo considera sub-resfriamento, superaquecimento, perdas de carga no evaporador, condensador, válvulas de sucção e descarga, linhas de sucção e descarga, e eficiência isentrópica, mecânica e elétrica do compressor. São simulados oito refrigerantes puros, e então, com base no desempenho destes, selecionados seis grupos de misturas ternárias com fração em peso alterada em 10%, 30% e 60%. A análise do drop-in é realizada avaliando o coeficiente de performance (COP), a capacidade de refrigeração volumétrica, a temperatura de descarga, a razão de pressão, a vazão mássica, a destruição de exergia e a eficiência exergética. Uma nova forma para calcular a inflamabilidade de refrigerantes é proposta por este trabalho, mostrando maior simetria comparado à norma ASHRAE. A mistura com melhor desempenho geral é a RBGC3 (R290/R1234yf/R1234ze(E) peso 60/30/10), que, embora tenha reduzido o COP em 1,5%, resultou em redução da vazão mássica (28,2%) e temperatura de descarga (5,4%), além de um aumento na capacidade de refrigeração volumétrica de 28,6%. O GWP reduziu cerca de 386 vezes quando comparado ao R134a.Refrigerants with a high global warming potential (GWP) have been widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. However, climatic events such as heat waves have become frequent around the world. It is estimated that the global temperature will rise by more than 2.0 oC by 2100. In view of this, the Paris Agreement and the Montreal Protocol seek to replace refrigerants with a high GWP with others with a lower environmental impact. In this context, this work consists of a numerical study of the energy and exergetic performance of zeotropic and azeotropic refrigerants as substitutes for R134a in vapor compression refrigeration systems. The cycle considers subcooling, superheating, pressure losses in the evaporator, condenser, suction and discharge valves, suction and discharge lines, and isentropic, mechanical and electrical efficiency of the compressor. Eight pure refrigerants are simulated and then, based on their performance, six groups of ternary mixtures are selected with weight fractions altered by 10%, 30% and 60%. The drop-in analysis is carried out by evaluating the coefficient of performance (COP), volumetric refrigeration capacity, discharge temperature, pressure ratio, mass flow rate, exergy destruction and exergetic efficiency. A new way of calculating the flammability of refrigerants is proposed by this work, showing greater symmetry compared to the ASHRAE standard. The blend with the best overall performance is RBGC3 (R290/R1234yf/R1234ze(E) weight 60/30/10), which, although it reduced the COP by 1.5%, resulted in a reduction in mass flow (28.2%) and discharge temperature (5.4%), as well as an increase in volumetric refrigeration capacity of 28.6%. Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica, Escola de Minas, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto.As altas temperaturas alcançadas na usinagem de aços endurecidos geram custos elevados ao processo, principalmente, no que tange aos problemas relacionados com os desgastes sofridos pela ferramenta de corte que influenciam tanto a viabilidade econômica como a performance de produção, em contrapartida facilita a usinagem de materiais de baixa usinabilidade como os aços endurecidos. O objetivo do trabalho é analisar o comportamento da temperatura na interface cavaco-ferramenta, através do método termopar ferramenta/peça. Para entender as máximas temperaturas alcançadas será medida a temperatura de interface cavaco/ferramenta, os parâmetros de corte que serão variados são velocidade de corte, avanço, profundidade de corte, ângulo de saída e estado de afiação. O material da peça é um aço AISI D6 temperado com dureza média de 780 HV, o que o classifica como um material extremamente difícil de ser usinado. O material tem entre as suas principais aplicações matrizes de corte e de estampagem, devido a sua enorme estabilidade dimensional. Como resultado, será obtido um maior entendimento das temperaturas médias de usinagem na interface cavaco-ferramenta envolvidas em um material com dureza tão elevada, cita-se a influência da alteração do ângulo de saída negativo (-5°) que fez com que a temperatura aumentasse em virtude da necessidade de maior força e potência de usinagem. Os comportamentos das temperaturas de corte foram efetivamente influenciados de acordo com a alteração dos parâmetros, principalmente, a velocidade de corte que gerou uma variação de 204°C em relação à condição inicial dos ensaios. Observou-se também que a temperatura de corte tende a cair na proporção que a ferramenta começa a se desgastar e falhar.The high temperatures achieved in the machining of hardened steels generate high costs to the process, especially about the problems related to the wear suffered by the cutting tool that influence both economic viability and production performance, in return facilitates the machining of low machinability materials such as hardened steels. The objective of this work is to analyze the temperature behavior in the tool chip interface, through the thermocouple tool/part method. To understand the maximum temperatures reached, since the chip/tool interface temperature, the cutting parameters that will be varied are cutting speed, feed, depth of cut, rake angle and wear stage. The part material is a hardened AISI D6 steel with an average hardness of 780 HV, which classifies it as an extremely difficult material to cut. The material has among its main applications cutting and stamping dies, due to its enormous dimensional stability. As a result, a greater understanding of the average machining temperatures at the chip-tool interface involved in a material with such high hardness will be obtained, citing the influence of changing the negative rake angle (-5°) which made the temperature increased due to the need for greater strength and machining power. The behavior of the cutting temperatures was effectively influenced according to the change of the parameters, mainly, the cutting speed that generated a variation of 204°C in relation to the initial condition of the tests. It was also observed that the cutting temperature tends to drop in proportion as the tool begins to wear out and fail

    Introduction The genetic component, including genes and their variants, plays a signifcant role in the pathophysiology of arterial hypertension (AH). Thus, clinical, epidemiological and genetic studies have been carried out to improve the under- standing of disease mechanisms, improve diagnostic quality and contribute to prevention. Objective To determine the association of risk factors, biochemical parameters and diferent ACE gene polymorphisms with AH. Method The case-control study was carried out in the population of Ouro Preto, Brazil. The subjects answered a question- naire containing clinical and sociodemographic data. The ACE gene polymorphisms rs4291, rs4363 and rs4335 were evalu- ated by real time-polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) in 310 people (155 hypertensive and 155 normotensive patients), in addition to biochemical parameters. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with AH. Analysis of continuous variables was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test to assess signifcance between groups and Dunn’s post-test for multiple comparisons. Results The results showed that AH was associated with age, education, smoking, obesity and high levels of triglycerides, sodium, glucose and uric acid. Regarding the biochemical parameters, in hypertensive patients, the rs4363 and rs4335 poly- morphisms were associated with high levels of triglycerides, urea and glucose; the rs4291 polymorphism was associated with elevated urea and glucose levels. No association was detected between SNPs and HA. Conclusion AH was associated with socioeconomic status, lifestyle habits and biochemical parameters. ACE polymorphisms may have infuenced the levels of triglycerides, urea and glucose in hypertensive patients
