Palliative Care can encompass multiple meanings, depending on the institution that defines it and the people who are its recipients. Often thought for terminal patients, the definition is still uncertain regarding the inclusion of only physical approach or also legal, psychological, spiritual, and social assistance aspects. Moreover, there are laws and resolutions in the Brazilian legal system that deal with the regulation and implementation of Palliative Care in the field of the Brazilian health system, especially within the Unified Health System (SUS), which does not necessarily coincide with the experiences of the subjects and with the related theoretical elaborations. The general objective is to create an investigative structure that allows to ascertain new knowledge about the expression, seeking them in an initiative to develop a methodology that privileges the authenticity of the experiences of the subjects involved in its application processes. It is, therefore, a meta-research in which, in a first phase, the conceptions of health and Palliative Care are constructed from a theoretical bibliographic research. Subsequently, with theoretical support in the idea that presupposes an expanded cognition of the constitutional right to health, it is necessary to create a methodological scheme of measurement, based on the references of previous findings. Thus, as an important conclusive finding, a protocol is designed to enable empirical research, for the doctoral course, on the experiences of subjects and their contributions to an authentic understanding of Palliative Care through a semi-structured interview. The results can also inspire evaluative initiatives of related public policies, as they allow revealing strategies of insertion of experiential interlocutors in the necessary dialogical process inherent to polysemic signifiers in the health area

The time-dependent deformability of concrete structures has significant importance within structural analysis, as these phenomena can lead to a wide range of undesired side effects in structural elements. Creep and shrinkage, examples of these phenomena, were analyzed in this research, which aimed to study their effects on reinforced concrete beams and frames using the finite element method. A computational routine was implemented, extending the codebase of the finite element platform FEMOOP, to analyze these phenomena over time. The methodology involves establishing equilibrium for immediate loading and then calculating creep and shrinkage over time. The additional deformations due to creep and shrinkage were calculated according to the model presented in Annex A of NBR 6118 (2023) and transformed into forces through the internal force vector of the element. Subsequently, a new equilibrium configuration is determined. In the analyses conducted in this study, beams and frames were modeled using a two-node, three-degree-of-freedom finite element bar with a formulation based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The computationally obtained results for deferred deflection were compared with those obtained using the simplified formulation presented in NBR 6118 (2023). The analyzed scenarios validated the computational routine developed in this work and presented a conservative result for the simplified formulation when compared to the complete formulation

Protium spruceanum extract enhances mupirocin activity when combined with nanoemulsion-based hydrogel : a multi-target strategy for treating skin and soft tissue infections.

    No full text
The treatment of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) can be challenging due to bacterial resistance, particularly from strains like MRSA and biofilm formation. However, combining conventional antibiotics with natural products shows promise in treating SSTIs. The objective of this study is to develop a nanoemulsion-based hydrogel containing Protium spruceanum extract and mupirocin and evaluate its potential for the treatment of SSTIs. The nanoemulsion was obtained by phase inversion and subsequently characterized. The antibacterial activity was evaluated in vitro against S. aureus MRSA, including the synergism of the combination, changes in membrane permeability using flow cytometry, and the anti-biofilm effect. In addition, the irritative potential was evaluated by the HET-CAM assay. The combination exhibited synergistic antibacterial activity against S. aureus and MRSA due to the extract enhancing membrane permeability. The hydrogel demonstrated suitable physicochemical properties, inhibited biofilm formation, and exhibited low irritation. The formulation was nanometric (176.0 ± 1.656 nm) and monodisperse (polydispersity index 0.286 ± 0.011). It exhibited a controlled release profile at 48 h and high encapsulation efficacy (94.29 ± 4.54% for quercitrin and 94.20 ± 5.44% for mupirocin). Therefore, these findings suggest that the hydrogel developed could be a safe and effective option for treating SSTIs

A network-driven study of hyperprolific authors in computer science.

Scientific authors’ collaborations are influenced by various factors, such as their field, geographic region, and institutional role. Here we focus on a group of authors whose patterns of publications greatly deviate from the average, previously referred as hyperprolific authors. Prior studies have investigated the emergence of hyperprolific authors and their productivity. In this article, we focus on the role of coauthorships in the hyperprolific authors’ publication profiles. Based on a network model that represents researchers as nodes and weighted edges as the number of collaborations between a pair of researchers, we argue that not all network edges have the same importance to characterize the existence of hyperprolific authors. As such, we filter out “sporadic” coauthorships, revealing an underlying structure composed only of edges representing consistent and repetitive collaborations, named as the network backbone. Our network-oriented methodology was applied to a dataset of Computer Science publications extracted from DBLP, covering an 11-year period from 2010 to 2020. Our experiments reveal significant topological differences between the full coauthorship networks and backbones, concerning only authors with very off-the-pattern profiles. We also show that hyperprolific authors are consistently more likely to exhibit off-the-pattern coauthorships and that an author’s probability of being present in the backbone substantially increases with her topological proximity to a hyperprolific author. Finally, we investigate how authors’ hyperprolific profiles correlate to their presence in the backbone

The objective of this research is to understand the reasons why the Dentistry course at the Instituto Domingos Freire de Ouro Preto was created and to investigate the reasons that led to its extinction. This work investigated possible factors that would lead to the end of this institution’s activities, such as moving the capital to Belo Horizonte; changes in educational legislation; shortage of students; difficulties in legitimizing diplomas, etc. To carry out this study, it was necessary to conduct documentary research in the collection of the Escola de Farmácia de Ouro Preto and use Bourdieu’s perspective to understand the search for professional distinction and symbolic capital surrounding dental surgeons’ diplomas. In view of the above, it was confirmed that the historical-social and political context of the First Republic was decisive for the Dentistry course in Ouro Preto to suffer from a shortage of students, given the growth of private higher education at the time, and to have difficulties in achieving equality with the similar course in Rio de Janeiro

The Mamanguape pluton comprises muscovite, biotite syeno-to monzogranite intruded in metasedimentary rocks. Geochemically, the studied samples of the Mamanguape pluton peraluminous granites are ferroan and alkali-calcic. Furthermore, trace element distribution diagrams are characterized by troughs at Ba, Nb, Sr, P and Ti. The REE patterns are fractionated showing (Ce/Yb)N ratios ranging from 12 to 15, and deep negative Eu anomalies, with Eu/Eu* ratios varying between 0.18 and 0.25. The geochemistry of the two-mica granites of the Mamanguape pluton shows similarities with peraluminous leucogranites from the Borborema Province with crystallization ages related to the contractional (640–600 Ma) and transcurrent (590–545 Ma) stages of the Brasiliano/Pan-African Orogeny. Peraluminous, two-mica and biotite-leucogranites were emplaced through all Borborema Province with ages within 640–600 Ma and 590–545 Ma intervals. Their generation is interpreted as the result of partial melting of metasedimentary rocks involving muscovite dehydration. The crystallization age (574 ± 2 Ma) of the Mamanguape two-mica granites suggest intrusion related to the transcurrent stage of the Brasiliano Orogeny. Zircon grains extracted from two samples of a two-mica leucogranites of the Jurema and Jupi Plutons, Pernambuco-Alagoas Domain, show a large variation of εHf(t) values (− 45 to − 5) and Hf TDM model age between 1.2 and 3.9 Ga. Archean Hf TDM model ages were recorded in Cryogenian/Ediacaran zircon grains as well as Paleoproterozoic grains, suggesting contribution of an Archean component in the source of the granites. One sample of the Mamanguape Pluton, Transversal subprovince, have εHf(t) values ranging between − 13.7 and + 1.4 and Hf TDM model age between 1.4 and 2.2 Ga, suggesting that the magma was generated by partial melting of metasedimentary rocks that received a large contribution of Neoproterozoic and Paleo- proterozoic igneous sources. Small amount of mantle melt contributing to the source of the two-mica granites is supported by the presence of mafic enclaves and positive εHf(t) values

Profile of interstitial cells of Cajal in a murine model of chagasic megacolon.

    No full text
Disorders of gastrointestinal motility are the major physiologic problem in chagasic megacolon. The contraction mechanism is complex and controlled by different cell types such as enteric neurons, smooth muscle, telocytes, and an important pacemaker of the intestine, the interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs). The role of ICCs in the progression of acute and chronic Chagas disease remains unclear. In the present work, we investigate the aspects of ICCs in a long-term model of Chagas disease that mimics the pathological aspects of human megacolon. Different subsets of ICCs isolated from Auerbach’s myenteric plexuses and muscle layers of control and Trypanosoma cruzi infected animals were determined by analysis of CD117, CD44, and CD34 expression by flow cytometer. Compared with the respective controls, the results showed a reduced frequency of mature ICCs in the acute phase and three months after infection. These results demonstrate for the first time the phenotypic distribution of ICCs associated with functional dysfunction in a murine model of chagasic megacolon. This murine model proved valuable for studying the profile of ICCs as an integrative system in the gut and as a platform for understanding the mechanism of chagasic megacolon development

A new productive context emerges in the first decades of the 21st century and drastically changes the pattern of organization and exploration of work through information and communication technologies, removing labor protection especially due to the difficulty in identifying the requirement of legal subordination. The aim is to understand whether the way of remunerating work in the new production model of the Digital Technology Economy has reconfigured the employment requirements set out in article 3rd of the Workers Law Consolidation. The objective of the study reported here is to recognize the employment relationship for workers inserted in the Digital Technology Economy based on the presentation of the innovative requirement of expanded onerosity, which eliminates the requirement for subordination as a distinctive element of the employment relationship and presents responses to changes in the organization of work promoted by the new production model. This is theoretical research with a dogmatic-legal aspect using a qualitative approach carried out through the exploration of primary and secondary sources. The methodological type chosen was exploratory legal to approach the legal problem. The analysis showed that there was an epistemological inaccuracy in the doctrinal consolidation of legal subordination as a requirement for employment, requiring innovative interpretative tools that make it possible to re-read the article 3rd of the Workers Law Consolidation in accordance with the reality of contemporary work and considering the extra-legal elements that inform the complex wage- earning relationship. The most recent notion of economic dependence as a distinctive feature of Labor Law and the expansion of the element of burdensomeness will highlight an important change in the center of employment power, giving rise to a new element that will allow a new configuration of employment in order to extend the protective spectrum of employment. Labor Law for hitherto invisible subjects

A hybrid metaheuristic algorithm for scheduling iron ore reclaiming in ports.

    No full text
This work deals with a scheduling problem of reclreclaimers. This problem invanvolves a set of ships to be loaded with predefined stockpiles. These stockpiles are unloaded into ship holds, and each hold must store a predefined product and quantity of iron ore. Stockpiles are stored in storage yards, which have reclaimers to reclaim iron ore from stockpiles and send it to berthed ships. The objective is to schedule the operations of reclaimers to minimize the sum of ships’ berthing times. A hybrid algorithm, combining the multi-start, GRASP and variable neighbourhood descent procedures, is proposed to treat instances of any scale of the problem. It was tested in real instances, and its results were compared with the hybrid simulated annealing algorithm from the literature and a fast simulation algorithm that emulates operators’ decision-making. The proposed algorithm was the best in all instances, and statistical tests proved its superiorit

This research highlights three artists, pioneering references of screendance in Latin America: Analivia Cordeiro (Brazil), Pola Weiss (Mexico) and Silvina Szperling (Argentina). Through a time frame between 1970 and 1990, I share reflections based on a work by each artist, focusing on the specificities of their poetics, which accompany and guide the creation of a work. I question: 1) How do these artists' works raise questions and complexify a process of analysis and creation, both to broaden the perception of an artistic-investigative work and for possible contributions to the field of screendance? 2) How does the process of analyzing a screendance occur when it occurs simultaneously with the creation of another, created from the first? I adopt Practice as Research and Phenomenology as methodological procedures that include semi- structured interviews with two artists: Cordeiro and Szperling. I develop a proposal for a cine- choreographic analysis of works by each artist in focus: Ciudad-Mujer-Ciudad (Pola Weiss, 1978), Temblor (Silvina Szperling, 1993) and Striptease (Analivia Cordeiro, 1997). With the analysis, I propose devices to trace reflections-actions, so that the practice composes the investigation as a fundamentally integrated instance. With cine-choreographic analysis, I share some tools and proceedings with which researchers and/or artists can dialogue, interact, transform, derive and find their own processes of constructing analyzes for works. I also present, in a reflexive mode, possible implications to the hybrid field of screendance, as well as to other artistic languages of the contemporary scene
