    Get PDF
Environmental conditions pose direct and indirect effects on animal growth. Animal growth  itself can be defined in many ways, and one of the parameters is body growth. This study was conducted to determine the dimensions of body measurements such as shoulder height (SH), body length (BL), chest width (CW), and heart girth (HG) of calves and heifer located in high land, middle land, and low land. The number of calves and heifer used in this study was 121 and 131, respectively. Calipster and rondo ribbon were used to measure the body measurements while the Gompertz model was used to predict the growth parameters of mature age. The results indicated that the maturity age of cattle raised in the high land, middle land, and low land were 347.63 - 371.52 days, 377.58 days, and 465.69 days, respectively. The growth rate for all body measurements (SH, BL, CW, HG) was higher in the high land compared to the middle land and low land. The sequences of growth development obtained from the Gompertz analysis was SH, CW, HG, and BL. Heifer reaching earlier puberty or mature age will have better body size

The aim of the research was to determine the effectivity of the dietary inclusion of red guava fruit on the production capability of broiler chicken. An amount of 120 birds of unsex broiler chicken were randomly assigned in floor pen based on a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications consisted of 6 chicken each. Dietary treatments of the inclusion of red guava fruit were offered for 4 weeks, i.e.: without red guava (T0), 1.7% (T1), 3.4% (T2), and 5.1% (T3) respectively red guava fruit meal and diet with synthetic vitamin C (T4). The parameters measured were production capability (muscle protein and calcium mass, carcass weight, meat, and bone production). The results showed that muscle protein mass, calcium mass and bone production showed no significant differences (P>0.05) due to the treatments. Weight of carcass of T2 was significantly highest (617.75 g) compared to other treatments and meat production was significantly higher (259.25 g) compared to T4 (193.25 g), but not significant differences compared to other treatments. The results of the present study can be concluded that feeding red guava fruit meal at the level of 3.4% equal to 500 ppm vitamin C as a source of  natural antioxidant can improve production capability

    Get PDF
Seasonal change of bahiagrass tiller under different nitrogen fertilizer rate and cutting height was investigated over a 4-year period. Tiller dynamics were examined using a tagging technique, with treatments of two nitrogen rates [5 g N/m2 /year (LN) and 20 g N/m2/year (HN)] x three cutting heights above ground level [20 mm (LH), 120 mm (MH) and 220 mm (HH)]. Total tiller density in the first one or two years increased in LH treatments, whereas that in MH and HH treatments decreased. Thereafter, the density reached annually constant values, showing seasonal fluctuations consisting of the spring increase and the subsequent decrease. The decrease in cutting height usually increased TAR, and the increase in nitrogen rate often increased TAR in the LH treatments. TDR increased from spring to summer and decreased thereafter. In summer and autumn, HN/LH treatment often showed higher TDR than the other treatments. The balance in LH treatments increased with increasing nitrogen rate. In the other months, the balance was usually close to zero or negative, except for LH treatments in the first year. The half-life of tillers tended to increase with decreasing nitrogen rate and cutting height. Tillers appearing in autumn survived longest, and those appearing in spring shortest. The results show that bahiagrass copes with severe management conditions by increasing its tiller longevity. This is taken as an important mechanism for the high persistence of the grass. In addition, bahiagrass tolerates severe defoliation (LH treatments) also by increasing TAR and thus tiller densit

Pengujian dilakukan pada  rumen in vitro.

Meatballs product quality significantly affects the consumer preferences.  Meat and other ingredients are very important in determining meatballs product quality.   Processing of rabbit meat with sago flour is intended to substitute the use of starch flour that has been used so far. The aim of the research was to determine the hedonic and sensory quality of flavor, taste and colour of rabbit meatballs with addition of different levels of starch and sago flour combination. The experiment was performed by factorial arrangement (2x5) according to completely randomized design. The first factor was the condition of rigor (prerigor and postrigor) and the second factor was the combination of starch and sago flour (30% starch, 30% sago, 15% starch + 15 % sago, 20% starch + 10% sago and 10% starch + 20% sago). Replication for each treatment combination was three. Sensory and hedonic properties observed were the aroma, flavour and color of rabbit meatballs. The results showed that the rigormortis condition of meat affected the quality of rabbit meatballs in terms of flavour dan colour. Addition of combination of starch and sago flour at different level significantly affected flavour, taste and colour of the rabbit meatballs. There was an interaction effect of rigormortis condition and the combination starch or sago levels on the color of rabbit meatballs. In conclusion, the best meatballs quality obtained on the use of prarigor meat with addition of combination 15% starch + 15% sago
