    No full text
Abstract. Due to rapid technological advancement, the financial industry is now transitioning from traditional to digitally based financial services. In Indonesia in particular, this transformation is being carried out in accordance with the idea of digital finance innovation. However, within the Indonesian financial industry, there is a competency gap that hinders the rate of progress of this transformation. Accordingly, this study aims to create a curriculum designed explicitly for digital finance innovation for Indonesian higher education institutions in order to address the existing competency gap. Through the application of multivariate regression analysis, eight required competencies and their respective subjects were identified in this study. The identified competencies can provide insights for higher education institutions in creating a curriculum to ensure that their future graduates can fill the competency gap within the Indonesian financial industry. The results of the study state that: (i) an effective and appropriate relationship between DA, RM, BM, and SM competencies and can improve the ability of financial institutions to identify and manage risks in their environment; (ii) the relationship between FIK knowledge and PRO and BM competencies can help financial institutions ensure that their DFI products, such as applications, meet the standards set by regulators and improve management practices; (iii) the relationship between FL and PRO competencies can improve the organization\u27s ability to reduce the possibility of miscommunication and misperceptions surrounding DFI ideas. Hence, these findings have implications for the university curriculum that implements them, bolstering the output of graduates who can help accelerate the actualization of the digital financial innovation agendas of the Indonesian financial industry. Keywords: digital finance innovation; financial technology; higher education institutions Abstrak. Measuring The Gig Economy in Indonesia: Typology, Characteristics, and Distribution

    No full text
Abstract. Work in the gig economy is defined as short-term and task-based jobs mediated by digital platforms. In Indonesia, the emergence of an online motorcycle taxi driver platform in 2015 marked the discourse about the gig economy as the future alternative of jobs on the one hand, and as a new form of exploitation of labor on the other hand. This study is the first to define the typology of the gig economy and identify the platforms of the gig economy service providers in Indonesia. Furthermore, this study estimates the number of gig economy workers by using micro data from the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) released by the Central Statistics Agency. It was found that 0.3 to 1.7% of Indonesian workers participated in the gig economy as their primary job. This study also compares the characteristics of gig workers in the transportation sector and in the other service sectors with the overall demographics of the workforce. It was found that gig workers shared more characteristics with the formal workers than with the informal workers. Finally, this study maps the distribution of gig workers throughout Indonesia at the city/district level. It can be concluded that the gig economy is an urban phenomenon. Most gig workers in the transportation sector are concentrated in the provincial capital and in Metropolitan Jakarta. Meanwhile, gig workers in other service sectors are distributed more in tier 2 cities in Java. Keywords: Gig economy, gig worker, digital worker, labor economics, jobs Abstrak. Pekerjaan di dalam ekonomi gig didefinisikan sebagai pekerjaan berbasis tugas jangka pendek yang dimediasi oleh platform digital. Development of a Virtual Disaster Simulator for Municipal Training in Japan

    No full text
Abstract -This study introduces a comprehensive simulation model using agent-based modeling (ABM) to assist local governments in developing disaster training scenarios, focusing on earthquake-induced infrastructure damage, sediment disasters, and evacuation behavior. The model comprises three key components: a disaster simulator predicting infrastructure damage, a sediment disaster model replicating damage within warning zones, and an evacuation behavior model representing individual decision-making. Developed with the SOARS toolkit and visualized using Python and ArcGIS Pro, the model effectively captures disaster scenarios. Although infrastructure damage predictions were slightly lower than historical data, they were successfully incorporated into the scenarios. The sediment disaster model accurately reflected trends in the number of affected agents, like past events, and the evacuation model demonstrated consistent behavior patterns across simulations. Additionally, new insights emerged, such as cases where the number of evacuating agents exceeded shelter capacity. Municipalities can employ this model to enhance their disaster response capabilities and conduct more realistic and diverse disaster simulations, ultimately improving the effectiveness of their disaster preparedness training programs.  Keywords - Agent-based modeling, disaster simulation, evacuation behavior, SOARS toolkit, disaster tabletop drill

Human Resources Management Strategy to Attract Workes (A Study Case in Pekalongan Batik Cluster SMEs)

    No full text
Abstract. SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises), including batik (traditional Indonesian technique for decorating fabric using wax-resist dyeing) SMEs, significantly contribute to GDP and employment in Indonesia. Pekalongan regency is one of the centers of batik production and development in Indonesia, which occurs through interconnected SMEs, commonly called clusters. Currently, batik cluster SMEs in Pekalongan do not have a competitive advantage in the market, characterized by declining sales, inability to meet consumer demand, errors in the production process, low technology absorption, and lack of innovation. One of the causes of this situation is the declining interest of workers in employment at batik SMEs. Therefore, there must be an effort to increase worker interest to create a competitive advantage for batik SMEs in Pekalongan. This study used the soft system methodology (SSM) approach with strategic entrepreneurship as the theoretical framework. The resource persons were 13 owners/managers of batik SMEs in Pekalongan, plus two experts from external SMEs. This research produced a conceptual model of human resources management strategies from stakeholders to increase workers\u27 interest in batik SMEs in Pekalongan by intensifying batik artists regeneration efforts through revitalizing batik tourism in Pekalongan. Such efforts involve vocational schools for batik, intensifying batik content in the media, creating national/international batik events, formulating WSS (Wage Structure and Scale)  for workers, and improving and standardizing workers\u27 competencies. The Return on IPO Stocks during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Indonesia

    No full text
Abstract. Conducting an initial public offering (IPO) during the COVID-19 pandemic is not easy due to the current high level of economic uncertainty. This study aims to examine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the initial return on IPO shares in Indonesia. In the study, a cross-sectional regression was applied, using a sample of 51 companies that conduct IPOs. It was found that the fear index over the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected the initial return. The higher the fear index, the lower the return on IPO stocks on the first listing day. The results therefore demonstrates that the fear of COVID-19 influenced the IPO market return in Indonesia. This study extends the literature on the COVID-19 pandemic, especially on the initial return on IPOs. Practically, this research also provides insight into the issuers regarding the appropriate timing of IPOs during the crisis, particularly for investors who wish to buy IPO shares during an uncertain time. Policymakers are expected to mitigate the cases and deaths of COVID-19 in Indonesia, which may reduce investors’ fear related to COVID-19. This paper\u27s limitation is that it only examines data from 2020, as this was the year in which COVID-19 first announced. Future research could include the short-term and long-term performance of IPOs, and also broaden the sample area to a larger region. Keywords: Initial return, IPO, COVID-19, fear index, Indonesia.
