The specific targets of this research were to produce; (1) Student book (SB), (2) Student Worksheet (SW), (3) Lesson Plan (LP) and to (4) Know their effectiveness of learning packages themselves. The development design of the packages was the modification and adaptation of Four-D model (Thiagarajan, 1974), which is encompassing four phases namely; Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The criteria, used as the references of Bilingual Method, refers to; (1) Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF), based on President Regulation No. 20/2012, (2) English as a language, in which the packages were made, (3) The examiners are native speakers, (4) The structure of the learning packages, which can lead students’ paradigm, insight, and knowledge to worldwide things. The research finds that: (1) Quantitatively, the learning packages are generally effective to improve students’ achievement, specifically shown by the increase of students’ grade from the pretest to posttest as many as 8.16 in 100-grading scale and, (2) Qualitatively; (a) the development SB emphasizes on three facets namely; the clarity and the structure of the content, the language, and the problem solving, (b) The development of SW emphasizes on three primary aspects namely; the task direction, the order of the task, and the language (c) The development of LP emphasizes on four primary aspects: formulation of basic competency, time allocation, learning material, and its structure

This study is an experimental study that aims to make coconut shell charcoal briquettes which have reliably characteristics or qualities. This study includes drying of raw materials, composing, grinding and sifting, mixing the adhesive, printing and compression, drying, and determination of characteristics include density, ash content, duration of combustion and calorific value. The result of the study showed that in general there is no significant difference between the characteristics of the briquettes using a starch adhesive with one that use sago starch adhesive. The characteristics of briquettes that were produced are in accordance with the standard in Indonesia, the United States and Japan, except Britain which give very strict standards. Activated charcoal from coconut shell charcoal that was activated with 1M HCl has metal adsopsi power Cr (VI) that is quite high (up to 22.15%).Keywords: briquettes, coconut shells, gluten, calorific value, tapioca, sago, ash, density

Water boiled  sappan wood is a health drink that is often consumed by society at large in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the activities of the wooden cup remedy by using DPPH (1,1 - picrylhydrazyl -difenil -2). Samples were wood sappan cooking water. Test methods used DPPH antioxidant activity as free radical absorbers . The ability of antioxidants measured by a decrease in DPPH absorbance at a wavelength of 513.1 nm . Samples wood sappan made with a concentration of 1 %, 2 %, 3%, 4%, 5% and 6% with the addition of DPPH by using a UV -Visible spectrophotometer . The results showed that the samples of the wood sappan 6 % have the highest antioxidant activity at a wavelength of 513.1 nm . It is concluded that Fern stems isolates have the ability to reduce free radical DPPH. The ability to reduce free radical DPPH sappan wood is greater than the ability of quercetin. IC50 value of the sappan wood is 0.047 mg / mL greater than quercetin is 5054 mg / mL. Keywords : Sappan wood, DPPH, antioxidan

Indonesia especially South Sulawesi contained the diversity of plant species. The number of species that exist it is necessary to identify each type. To facilitate the identification process, conducted the research of exploration of plant's description by QR Code feature. QR Code or quick response code, which is a type of two-dimensional bar code contains information that facilitates generating and reading (encoding and decoding) of information on a smartphone. The purpose of this research to facilitate describing of the plant with the QR Code features. This research located in Tope Jawa Coast, Takalar, South Sulawesi, with a descriptive study using survey and identification methods. The results of the study revealed 25 species of plants that have been identified and loaded into a QR Code that can be scanned by smartphone.Key words: Exploration, descriptions of plants, QR Cod

A simple model to describe the growth of Aspergillus niger during solid state fermentation using Nephrolepis biserrata leaves is a substrate for the production of exo-poligalacturonase for 192 hours. The rate of kinetics growth of Aspergillus niger and the use of glucose as substrate using a Model Monod has shown that the maximum utilization of glucose 0.32 g/L of Aspergillus niger biomass of 0.496 mg/gdsf of glucose uptake 5.96 g/L to 0.32 g/L at 24 hours up to 120 hours of incubation. Through a linear regression equation diperolehinilai μmax = 0.043 per hour and Ks = 0.473 g/L for 120 hours of incubation. The values of kinetic parameters and the amount of biomass has a significant relationship with R2 equal to 0.801 and exo-polygalacturonase optimum activity at 54.64 U/g. Data gathered for the kinetic parameters during evaluation of the production of exo-polygalacturonase in SSF by Aspergillus niger, a value YX/S is 0.149 mg/g by using glucose from the medium. The values for the kinetic coefficient of exo-polygalacturonase income is YE/S = 16.43 U / g, YE/X = 114.4 U/mg and kinetic constants were qE = 4.79 U/(mg.h) and qS = 0.289 g/(mg.h)

Exploring the Correlation between Metacognitive Skills and Retention of Students in Different Learning Strategies in Biology Classroom

Metacognitive skills were believed to contribute on vary of cognitive activity of students, including the retention. This research was conducted during one semester in four different classes that were taught biology by using four different learning strategies: Problem-based Learning (PBL), Reading Questioning and Answering (RQA), PBL integrated with RQA (PBLRQA), and multi-strategy. This research explored the correlation between metacognitive skills with retention of students in the four different strategies, and compared the four regression lines whether or not they are parallel. The research results showed that the correlations between metacognitive skills and students’ retention were significant. The results of the analysis of variance related to the regression equation in the four different strategies were parallel and not coincide and the regression line of RQA strategy was at the highest position. It indicated that this strategy has the potency to empower metacognitive skills and simultaneously maintained the students’ retention. It would be important information for lecturers that they should empower the metacognitive skills through the appropriate learning strategies because it was believed could affected the students’ retention. Keywords: metacognitive skills, retention, problem-based learning, reading questioning answering, regression line
