    No full text
This scientific research aimed to support the digitalization of marketing in German Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The digitalization was analyzed with regards to the implementation of AI while marketing was examined with a focus on personalized marketing. In this scientific research, a literature review was combined with expert interviews, leading to the discovery of 37 different challenges and a vast amount of possible recommended actions suitable for mitigating or preventing the challenges, which may arise from the cultural, technological and legal environment of German SMEs. The results were visualized in a table for SMEs to use it as a guide line, when they aim to integrate AI for personalized marketing. 13 challenges stood out because they were mentioned by multiple experts. In order to showcase these an additional synoptical table was generated presenting the seemingly most relevant challenges and the suitable recommended actions. The the general distrust in AI of the customers, implementation according to legal requirements, the limited financial resources of SMEs and the high fines for legal misconduct, seemed to be the most well-known challenges, that can be mitigated or prevented by the most recommended actions that were discovered in this research. German SMEs should be enabled through this scientific research to mitigate or avoid typical challenges they could encounter whilst implementing AI for personalized marketing in new ways and therefore enabling them to benefit from the advantages of digitalizing their marketing efforts

    No full text
In this contribution, we present heuristic methods for checking the normality of measurement data. First, the importance of this issue and the consequences of ignoring it for the interpretation and visualization of measurement results are explained. In addition, the basic knowledge of the normal distribution is provided. The main part describes and visualizes the selected graphical and analytical tests utilizing a sample data set from a load cell. The article concludes with a comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the different tests

    No full text

Assessing the Viability of On-Device Language Models in Legally Controlled Measuring Instruments

    No full text
The European Union's Artificial Intelligence Act represents a significant regulatory framework that governs the deployment of AI systems across various sectors, including critical infrastructure. A crucial challenge identified is the integration of AI in measuring instruments, especially utility meters used in critical infrastructures, as highlighted in the EU AI Act's Annex III. In legal metrology, AI applications, especially language models, are primarily serverbased, requiring substantial resources and continuous connectivity. The integration of AI and specifically of language models into measuring instruments promises unique opportunities and challenges along their lifecycle, impacting manufacturers, notified bodies, market surveillance authorities, and consumers. This paper highlights the need for on-device language models that can perform real-time regulatory compliance checks, facilitate natural-language interactions, and generate legally admissible documentation. We also address the challenges of designing smaller, energy-efficient models and propose a system overview to enhance functionality in resourceconstrained environments

Flexibility matters: Impact assessment of small and medium enterprises flexibility on the German energy transition

    Get PDF
This study analyzes the transition of the German electricity system towards climate neutrality by 2045, considering the demand-flexibility from small and medium enterprises (SME). The research uncovers the potential of flexibility from often-overlooked industrial SME sector, challenging their historical neglect in energy models and national strategies. Despite representing a small fraction of peak load, SME flexibility contributes to a significant reduction in carbon emissions and transition costs, as well as a decreased reliance on other flexibility measures. However, careful design and incentivization strategies are vital to reap the full benefits of SME flexibility. Challenges in achieving a secure electricity supply during extreme weather conditions in a 100 % renewable system are identified, along with how SME flexibility helps to achieve climate neutrality. By 2045, wind power becomes vital for supply security and is operated as a dispatchable ramping-up technology. Storage flexibility becomes essential. The transition incurs substantial costs but is economically advantageous in the long run. Overcapacities from renewables allow for a higher degree of electrification, stronger sector coupling, and suggest the possibility of a local hydrogen production. Although our study examines the flexibility of German SME, demand-responsive technologies exist worldwide, however with different shares and potentials. The study provides valuable insights into how SME demand response can contribute to achieving a sustainable energy system

Language Learning in Virtual Reality - Enhancement of Long-Term Vocabulary Recognition and Understanding through Full-Body Avatars

    No full text
Virtual Reality (VR) offers new embodied learning opportunities through full-body avatars interacting with the virtual environment and thereby inducing a sense of embodiment. Interestingly, while there is a profound body of research on various factors of embodiment as well as on embodied learning in virtual environments, the effects of virtual self-representation and avatar embodiment on learning outcomes are underexplored. In this work we present the results of an exploratory study (n = 32) based on a within-participants design with three conditions. We examined the effects of two fully immersive learning environments, one with low avatar embodiment and one with high avatar embodiment, and a low-immersive desktop application on vocabulary learning. The results imply that fully immersive VR does not improve short- and long-term recognition compared to desktop VR. However, increased immersion prevents knowledge loss and embodied interactions through full-body avatars can foster long-term vocabulary recognition and semantic understanding
