Numerical simulation provides powerful tools to model technical problems and to analyze them. One of those powerful tools is the finite element method. Among other things, it provides information about stresses, strains, forces and the pressure situation in structures that could only be determined by in vivo studies at great expense or, due to a lack of technical possibilities, not at all. The finite element model Virtual Human Jo provides such an insight into the human body. Due to existing contact definitions within the model, its range of motion in the hip joint and other joints is restricted. The aim of this work was to increase the range of motion in the hip joint so that Jo's area of application can be extended. It is supposed to be used in the development of innovative products in the medical, lifestyle and automotive sectors.
All models and simulations were carried out on the 3DEXPERIENCE® platform, which applies the Abaqus solver in the background for the finite element analysis. In a first step, the anatomical structure of the human tissue layers was analysed. Based on the results of scientific studies, specific values were found that describe the contact properties between the human tissue structures. Then, starting from an initial model, two half-sided models of the pelvis and thigh area with bone, muscle, fat and skin tissue were designed and refined by multiple steps, thus coming close to natural movement. The adaptation of the contact properties led to the desired improved range of motion in the hip joint. In addition, the parameters of the skin tissue were investigated and adapted in order to produce a much more realistic deformation behaviour when compressed. In a final step, an application scenario was simulated, and two models with different contact definitions were compared in purely qualitative terms. It turned out that the implementation of contact definitions close to anatomy considerably improves the sliding behaviour of tissue within the model. In the tissue no more unnatural strain peaks restricting the range of motion were observed
Microbiological contamination in cosmetic products poses a risk to end consumers. To enable producers to bring their products to market as quickly and contamination-free as possible, a fast and reliable testing method is essential.
With NeoGen’s One Plate TVC nutrient medium, the total viable count of mesophilic aerobic bacteria can be determined within 48 hours instead of 72 hours. The One Plate TVC nutrient medium has been validated for the cosmetics sector in accordance with DIN EN ISO 16140-4. For this purpose, comparative studies were conducted with the reference method, validated according to DIN EN ISO 21149-01. Cosmetic samples were contaminated with bacterial strains typically found in contaminated cosmetics and analyzed using both methods. Additionally, naturally contaminated samples were used to compare the two procedures.
The One Plate TVC nutrient medium delivers results equivalent to the reference method. Furthermore, after 48 hours, it shows a higher number of colony-forming units than the reference method does after 72 hours. The tetrazolium chloride included in the diagnostic supplement stains the colonies red within the medium, allowing the colony-forming units to stand out clearly from product residues and the background matrix. Additionally, the One Plate TVC enables the cultivation of Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens, which does not grow on the reference medium
Purification, Biochemical Properties, and Molecular Insights of an Endo-α-1,5-L-Arabinanase from Aspergillus aculeatus Using AZCL-Debranched Arabinan from Sugar Beet Pulp as Substrate
Endo-1,5-α-L-arabinanase plays a crucial role in the degradation of arabinans, a key component of plant cell walls, applications in food processing and biofuel production. In this study, an Endo-α-1,5- L-arabinanase from Aspergillus aculeatus was purified using a three-step process consisting of two anion exchange chromatography steps and one hydrophobic interaction chromatography step. The purification resulted in a nearly 7-fold increase in specific activity 2914 U/mg protein, with a final yield of 1.2%. A significant activity loss of approximately 61% occurred during the initial anion exchange purification step. The purified enzyme had a molecular weight of approximately 37 kDa. The enzyme exhibited maximal activity at pH 4.5 and 45°C, retaining more than 90% activity at temperatures up to 50°C but showing a sharp decline beyond 55°C. Metal ion analysis indicated that Ca²⁺ , Zn²⁺ and Mg²⁺ enhanced the activity at 5mM concentration (172.24 ± 0.04%), 127.32 ± 0.09% and 110.72 ± 0.05 , respectively ) while and Cu+2 exhibited a faint inhibitory effects at (97.13% , 92.9% , 95.1% respectively) indicating that the enzyme is not strictly metal-dependent
Degradation modes of large-format stationary-storage LFP-based lithium-ion cells during calendaric and cyclic aging
Lithium-ion batteries exhibit capacity loss as a result of the combined degrading effects of cal-endaric and cyclic aging. In this study, we quantify the lifetime of large-format (180 Ah) com-mercial stationary-storage lithium iron phosphate-based lithium-ion cells by performing 1500 cycles of cyclic aging and ca. 850 days of calendaric aging. The aging tests were performed at two different temperatures (35 °C and 50 °C) to observe the effect of temperature on aging. The calendaric aging cells were stored at two different states of charge (SOC) (100 % and 75 %) to observe the effect of SOC. At the end of aging tests, the capacity loss of all cells at 50 °C ex-ceeded those of all cells at 35 °C. Temperature was thus identified as major aging driver. The observed global activation energy over all investigated aging protocols was 37.3 kJ/mol. Fur-thermore, aging modes (loss of lithium inventory and loss of active material) were investigated by differential voltage analysis of the charge-discharge curves; for the cyclic aging cells, this was performed on the cycling data directly. The degradation mode analysis showed that loss of lithium inventory is mainly responsible for capacity loss

PKI-Based Security for Industrial Automation Systems Using 5G Campus Networks
The rapid emergence of Industry 4.0 factory automation necessitates ultra-low latency, high reliability, seamless connectivity, and robust security, driving the adoption of 5G private campus networks. However, these networks encounter considerable challenges in smart factories, where the convergence of operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) significantly heightens cyber-attack risks. To mitigate these threats, ensuring mutual authentication between all communicating parties is critical. In Industrial IoT (IIoT) settings, SIM card-based authentication poses challenges, including limited scalability, reliance on mobile network operators, and the complexity of managing large fleets of SIM-enabled devices. Conversely, public key infrastructure (PKI)-based authentication provides greater flexibility and convenience for handling cryptographic credentials, private keys, certificates, and trust anchors within 5G environments. This paper discusses the management of cryptographic credentials to enable certificate-based authentication for IT/OT systems in 5G campus networks. Achieving comprehensive security requires a unified architecture that encompasses network, endpoint, and traffic protection. We propose a novel security model for 5G industrial campus networks in brownfield environments, mapping and implementing our abstract security model, which is aligned with the latest standards
A Novel Approach for Performance Evaluation and Effectiveness of Data-Driven Heart Disease Diagnosis
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has emerged as a prominent cause of mortality globally during the past few decades. To receive medical care for heart illness in a clinic or medical center, it is necessary to undergo costly diagnostic tests. Implementing machine learning (ML) algorithms presents a viable approach to monitoring the health of individuals with cardiac conditions, offering a potential solution to mitigate the financial burden of medical expenses. This study employed ten ML algorithms to predict heart disease, which distinguishes itself from others by incorporating three distinct cross-validation approaches and three sample techniques, enhancing our findings’ accuracy. Three different cross-validation strategies have been implemented in this study: holdout cross-validation, tenfold cross-validation, and stratified tenfold cross-validation. Each technique has been applied to every sample technique used in the study. DTC, RFC, KNN, and XGB algorithms exhibited the most favorable outcomes. Our recommended model is the RF Classifier implemented with near-miss under-sampling out of the four models considered. The model under consideration demonstrates the maximum level of accuracy, specifically 97.54%, 97.11%, and 99%, while employing the Extra Tree, Random Forest Classifier, and XGB. The ML model's performance was assessed using metrics like accuracy, error rate, precision, recall, F1-score, ROC AUC curve etc

The onboarding of new employees in companies is often characterized by time-consuming, manual processes that can lead to errors and inefficient use of resources. The aim of this project is to develop an automated onboarding solution that increases process efficiency, minimizes errors and reduces the workload of the IT department. The implementation was carried out using a combination of a user-friendly frontend in Microsoft SharePoint and an automated backend using PowerShell.
In the frontend, forms and lists were designed in SharePoint to enable structured and error-free entry of the relevant onboarding data. In the backend, PowerShell scripts ensure automated user creation and authorization assignment in the Active Directory, the creation of email accounts in Exchange, ticket generation in the ticket management system and other attachments. To ensure data quality, validations and dependent fields were implemented in the forms, while a log file ensures transparency and error analysis of the scripts.
The solution shortens the processing time for onboarding and reduces the error rate. Thanks to its modular architecture, the system can be flexibly expanded and adapted to future requirements. The work shows how the integration of proven technologies can create an efficient and scalable automation solution that sustainably improves the efficiency of company processes
